Like its two bigger brothers the MagicBall and MagicBall 50, the Novoflex Mini MagicBall is a marvel of innovation. You have instant access to 85% of a sphere, making this far and away the quickest-to-position ballhead on the market. There is no vertical notch necessary!

The MagicBall surface is coated with a scratch-resistant, smooth shell which significantly reduces the transmission of vibrations while allowing the user to move the gear with ease and expedience. There is no independent panning capacity with the MagicBall, but this can be solved by using Novoflex's Universal Panorama Plate if you're so inclined. Together the two pieces provide quicker use than all other ballheads.

The Mini MagicBall can hold almost all 35mm-sized digital SLR gear, and will not creep even with an SLR with 70-200mm f/2.8 lens and flash attached. While it has immense locking power for its little size, it does not have tension control like the two larger models-the Mini was designed for the traveller whom needs the lightest kit possible and was willing to make such a sacrifice. If you will be tracking moving subjects with large telephoto lenses, you will be better served by the MagicBall 50.

A: No, it does not. According to Canon, the screws for the handle unit used on the Canon Cinema EOS C300 Mark II Camcorder measure 1/4 inch SAE. Unfortunately, the tools on the Novoflex Multi-Tool With 8 Functions are metric in size, and do not evenly convert to SAE measurements. 1/4 inch SAE woud be approximately 6.350 mm, while the Novoflex Multi-Tool With 8 Functions only has hex keys in the size of 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm. It would be best to find a tool kit that uses SAE measurements or find a single 1/4 inch SAE allen wrench hex key for your usage needs.

A: It doesn't accept Manfrotto size plates, but it does accept my arca-Swiss size Induro plates. Hope this helps you.

The price can deter a few photographers, especially when not a professional photographer but rather doing macro photography as a hobby. But in my opinion it is definitely worth the investment! This will be the last focusing rail that you will probably ever buy in your lifetime. This rail is built like a tank, but remains very elegant and surprisingly lightweight given the materials used and its dimensions. This rail can be mounted on several different platforms, ranging from a regular tripod plate to the more advanced Novoflex tripod heads fitted with a Arca-compatible rail clamp. I also love the ability of 2 of these rails to be combined together in an instant to create an x-y rail. Combined with the extreme precision and smoothness of the adjustment knobs, this rails really is a champion in its category. Also, their is absolutely no risk of the rails slipping off by accident due to the little set screws preventing the slider from going farther than it should. The camera plate is also held by a little knob sticking out of the slider to prevent your camera from slipping out the rail accidentally in the event that the plate was not clamped tight enough. The only thing I could complain about would be the gear rack used to move the slider. It is made of plastic. The advantage of this is that you do not need to lubricate the rail. But it also means that any debris caught in the gear system will result in possible damage of the gear teeth. Also, this may limit the amount of weight that this rail can handle before exceeding the structural strength of the gear rack. According to Novoflex, the knob on the side of the slider is a lock, not a tension knob. Using it to add friction may also damage the gear rack. But this lock really comes-in handy for near vertical shots to keep the camera still. Overall, this is probably the best rail you can ever buy, granted that you follow the specs that this rail has been designed for. It is just a blast in the field or in the studio. 5

Solid build and very smooth movement in very fine increments, if necessary.My only gripe would be, that the knob that drives the stage would benefit from being a bit bigger (there's a fine focus attachment for it, but that is an additional $) and/or having a degree scale or click stops, as it would make focus stacking a lot easier. I did a quick focus stack (in CombineZP and Picolay), which came out fine, but having a way to move the stage in consistent increments would be a big plus. 5 stars nonetheless. 5

What is there to say? It's just fantastic. I own three other brand focusing rails, and this one, by far, outshines them all. The focus knob located on the side is very accessible and turns very easily and accurately. The smaller knob on the other tightens the position. The ARCA type adjustment on the rear easily secures the camera to the rack. I have found it is easier to loosen and tighten when it is at the rear of the rack. Buy it, you'll like it. 5

I love this product. We shoot a lot of sports and action photography and this makes adjustments easy and simple. When a shoot calls for lots of movement, and a monopod is needed, this is the best ball head on the market! 5

Stereotypical but great German precision engineering and design. The ball part of the ball and socket can be kept attached to the bottom of the camera and quickly becomes a new and stable way to old your camera. The ball snaps in an out of the socket easily and with a satisfying click and is rock steady once tightened. Brilliant. 5

I am using this in combination with the Kirk mini tabletop tripod (Made in the good ol' US of A). The Novoflex is compact and sturdy. What I like is it uses a standard 1/4 20 thread which can be tightened and loosened easily by hand. It also has a nifty look about it. 5
