A truly wide-angle prime featuring a rectilinear optical design, the black Canon EF-mount Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D from Venus Optics is specifically meant to limit distortion for clear and accurate portrayals of landscapes and architectural subjects. The optical construction also incorporates a pair of aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements to control both spherical and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness and reduced color fringing. A Frog Eye Coating has been applied, too, to repel dust and moisture from the front element of the lens to benefit working in trying environmental conditions. Benefitting the optical attributes, this lens also features a precise manual focus design along with a floating optical system to maintain accurate rendering throughout the focus range, from 7.09" to infinity. Additionally, a petal-shaped lens hood is also incorporated into the lens' design to reduce flare and ghosting when working in strong lighting conditions.

Ultra wide-angle prime designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, this 12mm f/2.8 can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 19.2mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is well-suited to working in low and difficult lighting conditions.

Rectilinear design renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit landscape and architectural applications.

Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality. Two aspherical elements are also featured to limit spherical aberrations for improved sharpness.

A Frog Eye Coating has been applied to repel both dust and moisture for added protection when working in inclement conditions.

Manual focus design employs a floating optical system to maintain performance throughout the focusing range of 7.09" to infinity.

Built-in petal-shaped lens hood shields the lens from stray light to reduce flare and ghosting and also protects the front elements from accidental impacts.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone had problems with focusing to infinity with this lens? I've read many reviews where people are finding the focus ring very difficult to turn and more importantly, have soft pictures and can't focus at infinity. Thank you

A: this lens works well , on infinity focus with this or every lens you leave the focus ring slightly before the infinity mark

Q: 2. The question is will these fully manual lenses work on EOS R cameras with one of the three adaptors? There is a report of the EOS R not firing because it didn't see a lens.

A: Since this lens has no contacts, you will have to go into the camera's menu and select shoot without lens, which will allow you to fire the shutter for a lens of this type.

Q: 3. Love the concept of this lens, but am having trouble making it work on my D610. When installed, there is extreme vignetting in the NE and SW corners. It's certainly possible that there's something I haven't changed in setup to make it work, but so far, I'm not having much luck. What am I missing, or is there a problem with the lens?

A: I have this lens, and sometimes the lens hood gets off center and causes that for me. Check to make sure the hood is on correctly. Hopefully it's something that simple.

Q: 4. Does focus peaking work on Sony cameras with this lens?

A: This lens should work on the Sony a7 III's focus peaking as well as any other lens.

Q: 5. Can you use this lens with Panasonic Eva1 Camera, since this is a full frame lens? Would I get the vignetting in the corners?

A: I dont know about the Panasonic, but with the Sony version of this lens, I dont get vignetting with the full frame A7 or A7R

Q: 6. Is this a manual aperture lens or can you control it with the camera Canon EOS R6MK2 ? Thanks

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Canon RF has a manual aperture, so you cannot control it with the Canon EOS R6 Mark ii.

Q: 7. Is there a MSC for Canon RF mount?

A: Not currently. Unfortunately this is only currently available for the Sony E-Mount.

Q: 8. Before purchase: I tried to contact Venus. They do not have a phone number. Has anyone had issues with contact?

A: To contact the Venus Optics folks, E-Mail is the best way: support@venuslens.net

Q: 9. Does metering work properly when stopping down the lens using a canon dslr? The lens has no cpu contacts.

A: Yes one can use stop-down-metering on most Canon SLR cameras with the Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens for Canon EF (Black).

Q: 10. If you buy this or Sony E mount, is there an adapter or is it native E mount?

A: It has a E mount. However this lens is designed for dslr, not a native mirrorless design. Therefore the e-mount version has about extra inch of space (aka flange distance) between the lens element and the e mount opening interface. Hope i can explained it clearly. Also there is a youtube review talked about thisbas well. Well the extra inch is no big deal, just a surprise. On the other hand their 15mm f2 is designed from ground up as mirrorless lens speficially as a sony native FE lens. Good luck.
