The Alura 30-80mm T2.8 F Wide-Angle Zoom from ARRI is a long PL-mount lens that covers up to Super35-sized camera sensors and is optimized for 2K and 4K+ camera output. The 30 to 80mm Alura features a fast T2.8 to T22 aperture range throughout its zoom range and cine-style lens ergonomics. Both the 30 to 80mm and 15.5 to 45mm Alura lenses are designed with color characteristics to match ARRI's wide selection of existing lenses.

The Alura's optical features include high resolution and contrast performance, a multilayer coating to reduce flares and veiling, reduced chromatic aberration, and minimized breathing while focusing. A nine-blade iris produces a rounded, natural-looking bokeh for out-of-focus highlights. The lens also supports the ARRI Lens Data System (LDS) that can communicate lens data electronically to compatible cameras and devices, such as focus mapping, tracking, and distance measurement.

The focus, zoom, and iris barrels are compatible with 0.8 MOD gears for interfacing with industry-standard lens accessories such as follow focus units and wireless FIZ controls. For easier focus pulling, large focus scales are placed on both sides of the lens barrel. Marked in feet, the focus scales can be quickly changed to meters by an authorized ARRI service provider. Exchangeable front and rear elements are easily serviced and can potentially extend the life of your Alura.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a version with lens data? /I compatible?

A: No, the ARRI Ultra Prime 100mm T1.9 Lens (PL, Feet) does not come in another model that supports the Cooke /i Lens Data System.

Q: 2. Will this lens work with a full frame sensor? Has anybody tried it? Thanks.

A: The ARRI Alura 30-80mm lens has a 31.5mm image circle and a full frame sensor has a 43.2mm image circle (Nikon FX, Sony Alpha/Alpha FE, Canon EF). Therefore, this lens will vignette and not cover a full frame sensor.

Q: 3. Will this show aperture and focal length data on Red DSMC2 cameras?

A: The Canon CN-E 15.5-47mm T2.8 L SP Wide-Angle Cinema Zoom Lens with PL Mount has a PL mount that cannot transfer electronic data.

Q: 4. Will this lens give lens data to a Red through the PL mount?

A: This is an EF mount lens, not PL.

Q: 5. What is the meaning of open gate?

A: Open Gate provides the maximum sensor area (36.70 mm x 25.54 mm) and maximum resolution (4448 x 3096 photosites) for maximum flexibility in post.

Q: 6. Is this alura 1.4 X extender comparable with Zeiss lwz 3 21-100 mm t/2.9-3.9 lens

A: no this will not be compatible with the Zeiss Light weight zoom

Q: 7. How do you adjust back focus on the Arri Alura 15.5-45mm lens?

A: The ARRI Alura 15.5-45mm T2.8 F Wide-Angle Zoom (LDS PL, Feet) (B&H# ARAZ1545T28F) can perform differently on different cameras and mounts. As such, you may want to add shims between the lens mount and lens body to adjust the back focus.

Q: 8. Does this lens support the DPAF focus guide as the CN-E Primes do?

A: No, this is not applicable to this lens.

Q: 9. What is the filter thread pitch? 105xM0.75 or 105xM1.0?

A: The filter thread pitch is a 105xM1.0 It is a course thread that is a 1.0 pitch.

Q: 10. Does it only fit the 28mm? Does not fit in the 50mm or 35mm E mount version?

A: That is correct, the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 Interchangeable Bayonet (ARRI PL) only works with the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 anamorphic cine lens. The other two lenses have specific adapters just for them.

Bought this and the 20-55 for a few jobs where they will be paired with some Zeiss Superspeed primes. On FX9 they cover up to 5K (about 1.2 crop) easily.

They are nice par-focal cinema zooms. They have a pleasant look that is reminiscent of older lenses but they are for sure not 'old' in any way. Modern coating control flaring excellently. They will let a highlight bloom a bit but never ghost the whole frame and wash out your blacks. Very very sharp when in focus but do an interesting thing where it is easy to tell where the focal plane ends and the out of focus begins. Like the micro contrast just melts away. A wonderful set.

I have owned the Fujinon MK zooms for a long time so I thought this set might be a duplicate. Not at all. They are on opposite ends of the high end glass spectrum. Fujinons are clean and sharp and clear. The DZOfilm lenses are full of character and texture but also sharp. Hard to put into words but it is very nice.

First I'll start by saying this is the first big boy lens I have owned. I've upgraded from using a BMPCC 4k with photographic lenses to an Ursa with this lens. I have zero experience with professional equipment but I fo have a very solid understanding of how to use a camera.

With that said this lens gives me far more capabilities than what I'm used to. The longer throw focus and better aperature across the whole focal length is day and night compared to photographic lenses but if you are in the market for something like this than you already know that.

The only thing I'll say bad about this lens is its ability to hold focus. It comes with PL mount out of the box and the hardware for an EF. I had it swapped to EF by a local professional camera retailer. Its my first parafocal lens. I expected it to hold perfect focus throughout its zoom range especially since the flange was swapped by a professional AND I gave them my camera to make sure everything was tip top. From my eye it seems the focus shifts slightly. Focusing a subject at full zoom then pulling out seems to pull the focus a bit. This is also reflected by focus assist/peaking. It is minuscule though and difficult to perceive unless looking for it. For me it's an incredibly useful lens. The price compared to other lenses is what sold me. Hope this was helpful to someone!

Amazing value for the price! Nothing like it in this price range. The mechanics are super smooth and the par focal feature is unheard of in this budget. Very solid. The optics lean very vintage if you're into that kind of thing. The bokeh has a nervy quality to it. Medium amount of chromatic and spherical aberration. Sharp, but definitely not clinical. Changing the mount takes a little time and remember to record your shim values for switching back and forth. Will most likely buy the 50-125mm in the future.

Amazing lens that is on the heavy side.

It's very solidly made, handles nicely, and includes both a PL and Canon EF mount, which take around five minutes to switch out. The focus, iris, and zoom rings are nice and smooth, and the whole thing feels great.

The image quality shooting nature and fashion has turned out to be very good, and I'm looking forward to using it on a film set this weekend.

some of the best lenses I have used. I have used some high-class glass, but these have great characteristics, interesting flares, smooth focusing, sharp and clear image, and vintage aesthetics in the best way possible. 5 stars.

I have the
Pictor zoom set

I normally use them for my documentary projects . And one good advantage they have is the interchangeable mount. They can be used on both PL and EF mount cameras, they are kinda future proof .
One good thing about them too is that they are parfocal meaning if im shooting wide and decide to change my image size by zooming in I dont have to readjust my focus. Pretty good lenses yeah!
