Restore power to your Leica #14464 lithium-ion battery with this compact ULM9 USB Travel Charger from Nitecore. It operates on 5-VDC input power, and features an attached USB cable stored in a trough to save space and prevent damage. The USB connector allows for connection to one of various user-supplied adapters, portable power banks, and solar panels.

The sophisticated ULM9 contains a smart charging management system, which monitors battery types, capacities, and initial internal resistance, then automatically applies the most appropriate charging current based on this data. The device also provides battery-condition monitoring, carrying out a health inspection based on resistance at the time of installation. A cell's health bar will appear on the LCD display, which also shows capacity, voltage, and percentage of charge completed. When a battery's health has declined to the lower limit, the bar will start flashing to alert you that it should be replaced.

The ULM9 offers a mechanical reverse polarity protection mechanism that prevents charging from occurring if an incompatible or incorrectly installed battery is present. The error message "EE" will appear on the LCD to notify you in the event that a short-circuited battery is detected. Another helpful feature is the battery recovery mode that restores dormant cells to active duty.

Totally surprised to find the Nitecore ULM9 USB Charger for my Leica M8 batteries and equally surprised to find that this charger tells me about the condition of my batteries. Now, I can charge the Leica 14464 batteries while I drive the USB port in my truck ... totally suitable for our Alberta distances when travelling. I’m new to the camera world and picked up a Leica M8 that shipped from Europe. The charger it came with was big, bulky, and needed an adapter to plug into a US outlet. I opted to get this as the new charger as well as a portable charging solution. Charging was relatively quick, but I carry two batteries with me, so while I’m using one, I can charge the other if it dies. It’s also great to view the charge status via the LCD screen as well. Unfortunately, this model of charger is discontinued (or so it says on the Nitecore website), so I might have to snag a second one in case if I lose the small but mighty charger I already own. I know I’ll be getting a 2nd more modern camera to compliment my M8, and when I do, I’ll be looking to get a small charger like this one for it as well. 5

Great charger. Screen shows battery info and whether it has reached its useful life. When you insert the battery & plug in the charger it tells you if the battery is still good. Short usb wire. I use a plug converter for use in outlets. Very compact. 5

Excellent product! small and compact easily fits into my bag, Another great product here on B&H. Works well with any USB port i.e Computer, Power Brick, Power bank. Displays battery health, temperature, voltage, charging current, and charged volume. What's more is that it cuts off current once battery has reached full charge. No true negative other than the USB cord is a little short but this isn't really worth docking a star. 5

Works better than the one that came with my M8 - it's smaller, charges faster, and provides an indication of battery condition. It's slimmer and more versatile with usb connector. 5

There are two reasons I bought this charger. (1) its small and light, and plugs into USB. I don't have to carry a large-ish power cord when traveling. It plugs into my laptop, or my phone charger head, or even my car now has a USB port. (2) Sophisticated battery sensing and charging capability -- Nitecore's main selling point. This charger recognized and charged all my batteries just fine (and quickly), but it even charged one or two of my aftermarket batteries that the Leica charger wouldn't even recognize. They all seem to work fine in my M9 now. Not bad. 5
