Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the best mic stand adaptor / gooseneck adaptor combination for mounting this mic or a similar gooseneck mic on a stand? The mic will be used for a church cantor and announcements. Plus, sometimes a small choir will sing around this mic. Maybe we should use a small body condenser that comes with a stand adaptor. Ideas?

A: This mic may be mounted to a desk/table stand or to a permanent flange-type mount typically used on a podium: Shure - Centraverse Desktop Base (Black) - B&H# SHCVDB ----------- Shure - A400SM - Recessed Shock Mount for Gooseneck Mics - B&H# SHA400SM

Q: 2. Does it have an off,on switch?

A: no. Programmable on/off switch and LED on/off indicator (MX412D/MX418D)

Q: 3. How long is the cord, what connector does it use?

A: This mic has a 4' cable length, and comes with a ta4f connection wired for Shure wireless systems.

Q: 4. can this mic be mounted using a shure mic clip and a stand?

A: Not at all. it is designed to mount to a podium or a conference table.

Q: 5. Can this mic be used without phantom power?

A: The Shure CVG18-B/C is an Electret condenser microphone. This mic will require phantom power in order to operate.

Q: 6. Does the microphone have the mute button and the light ring?

A: The Shure CVG12-B/C Centraverse 12" Gooseneck Microphone and Desktop Base Kit (BH # SHCVG12BCDBK) (B&H Kit) has no mute switch or LED light ring.

Q: 7. Does the base of the stand hold firmly, while holding an average/standard weight mic?

A: It certainly does! The metal base is very sturdy... we have a standard SM57 style mic that lives on the stand as our talkback mic for VO tracking. Weve been very happy with the purchase.

Q: 8. Hı , can this microphone be connected to Asio sound interface to record directly to computer?

A: Unfortunately no, because this microphone uses a TA4F connector, it is meant to be specifically hooked up to a Shure wireless body pack that accepts this type of connector. There are ways around this, but I would suggest using a different microphone that has a standard TRS or XLR connector.

Q: 9. Will this microphone work with the Shure Beta inline xlr preamp using phantom power?

A: Yes, it is compatible.

Q: 10. Would this work with a DSLR?

A: You would not be able to directly plug in this mic to a DSLR because the connector is TA4F, which is intended for connecting to a Shure wireless bodypack. For utilizing a lavalier mic such as this in a video application, we would recommend using this mic in conjunction with a portable wireless solution such as the Shure FP15 wireless system. The lavalier would be plugged into the transmitter bodypack and worn by the talent on camera, while the receiver bodypack would be connected to your DSLR or a field mixer. This would also eliminate the issue of the on-camera talent having to be tethered to the camera by the lavalier's cable and would allow for free range of movement as well as a more appropriate shooting distance.
