Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The power supply for ES-300W is lost. Can we order and what is the part number?

A: Epson does not carry the AC adapter for the Epson EW-300W on their own website. Epson uses another company called Compass Micro for their replacement parts. Product # 2186459 would be the part number for the AC adapter, and the link for the adapter directly from their website is listed below.https://bit.ly/2rHb1tWThey also state you would need the AC power cord, which is Product # 2068927.https://bit.ly/2jZgnNMHowever, do note the Watson AC Power Cable with IEC-C7 Connector, B&H # WAPCIECC7, would be a more economical replacement power cable that is also compatible with the Epson AC Adapter. Do note that Compass Micro states the following on their website:The AC adapter is expensive. As an alternative, If you have a true USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) port on your computer, you should be able to charge the battery via the USB cable. A true USB 3.0 port is usually blue in color and often labeled as SS or 3.0 . The cable itself should be labeled that way too. Per the User Guide, USB 2.0 will not charge the battery.

Q: 2. I have a Canon 7D and a 40mm 2.8 lens (w/52mm filter thread) which focuses down to 0.3mm. I also have Kenko autofocus extension tubes with lengths of 12mm, 20mm and 36 mm. Will this slide copier with this lens work with any of the extension tubes?

A: I was able to make it work with a 7D and the 18-55 kit lens, extension tubes and a filter ring adapter. Adjusting the zoom until I got full frame. I agree with comments below, use manual focus. I used a remote controlled flash about 5 feet away for illumination

Q: 3. Have any thing for Canon?

A: Hi Ron , I purchased this Nikon slide copy adapter for use with my Canon 50mm F/2.5 macro lens with the Canon Life-Size converter EF. The threads on both, lens and SL-1, are 52mm. No step down or step up ring required. I used it on a 7D so the image is cropped on camera. I do not have a FF camera at the moment. The results were very satisfactory. I shot on ISO-100,F-5.6/or F-8, camera on a tripod with RS-80N3 remote switch. Manual focused, played with the shutter speed to see what would give me the best digital reproduction . Light source for me was an led lamp with diffuser about a foot away from the SL-1.With this set up the SL1 was fully extended and manual focus was maxed out. I hope this helps you !!!!!

Q: 4. Will this work with my AFS-S Micro Nikkor 40mm and my D7200? If it will, do I need extension tubes? If I do, will the Vello Autofocus Extension tube set work, and which tube would I need; 12mm, 20mm, or 36mm?

A: I have this setup (albeit a 7100) and it works perfectly. However, if you are planning to duplicate more than a few slides, it can prove very tedious, as you may need to adjust and refocus for each slide.

Q: 5. Does the 580-W permit me to "save as" to my desktop or dropbox, instead of just to the Epson program? Eg Fujitsu's Scansnap will not allow this, it seems.

A: Yes, one can save directly to a desktop or Dropbox with the Epson ES-580W Wireless Duplex Document Scanner.

Q: 6. Can I scan my documents to Evernote with this model?

A: Yes.

Q: 7. Does this roller kit apply to the FF-680W?

A: Yes, the Epson Roller Assembly Kit for DS-530, ES-400, and ES-500W Scanners is also compatible with the FastFoto FF-680W Photo Scanner from Epson.

Q: 8. i put a black and white photo with colored photos and the black and white didn't didn't digitize properly. looks like a bad photocopy. how do i fix this?

A: The 580W is not a photo scanner. It would be better to use the FF-680W if you are scanning photos:https://bhpho.to/3qYEU5r

Q: 9. Witch file type can the scanner scan the documents?

A: The Epson ES-500W II Wireless Duplex Document Scanner, can save documents as a PDF or Microsoft file with the use of the file scan software from Epson.

Q: 10. Is this scanner any good for photos or is it mainly intended as a document scanner?

A: We would not recommend for serious scanning of photos. Quick and dirty scanns of photos would be about what you would get.

Out of the box, I was impressed with the size and weight of the scanner. Super compact and lightweight. I have a Mac, and had to install the driver and software, which was easy to find and installation was straight forward. The step-by-step instructions made it easy to set it up with the home network, specifically, the WPS setup was very smooth (first time I ever used it). I also appreciate the auto update the software did to the latest version (but why the latest version was not the one on the website, still not clear to me).

What I didn’t know about this device, and is now my favorite feature, is that it has a battery and can work with no wires, none. It came pre-charged, and once the wifi setup was done I was able to print from it to my laptop as a standalone device. Big like.

OCR is working as expected and it was easy to set up and save my own preferences schema. It scanned well on both sides, quiet and fast.

One feature that would make my life easier, is the ability to control the default naming conventions (like adding '_' between the year, month and day), and being able to set the file name after the scan is done, just before it auto creates the file.

I have owned other portable scanners, and one being another epson. I have to say that this has to be one of the fastest, most accurate, and long battery life scanner I have used.

Being able to scan multiple sheets at a time ( up to 20 ) sheets in the auto sheet feed is amazing. Even with the resolution set to the highest I was impressed on how fast the pages would scan.

I do lots of work related and personal scanning of documents using my iPad and iPhone. Being able to wirelessly scan using the scanner helps out tremendously.

Yes this is more of document scanner and not photo scanning, but have to say that there is really no big loss in the details of a scanned picture.

As for battery life this scanner last for more than 5 hours of continuous use for me.

This scanner is awesome and so easy to use. I like this scanner better than the one on my printer because its so much easier to use and its a lot faster. The quality of the scans are top notch also.
The way it scans up to 20 documents at once and the portability is something you can't overlook. Just being able to stay at my desk pays for the price of the scanner. If you're on the fence about purchasing this scanner, I'm telling you that you will not be disappointed.

The Epson ES-300W just happens to be the first portable scanner that I have owned, and am amazed by the results. The quality of this portable scanner is simply fantastic. The first thing that I scanned, zoomed through the scanner so fast, I blinked and almost missed it. I have not seen anything scan that fast besides the equipment at the copy & print stores. Upon viewing the file on my laptop, I was very impressed with the scan quality. It surely beat the scan quality of my All-In-One printer. Once I started playing with the settings, I saw that I didn’t even have the resolution set at the best quality either.

I thought that this thing would have been seriously bulky due to having a battery backup, but it is very compact for having so many features. It has an adjustable paper feed, as well as a pop-up full sized page support. The adjustable paper feed allowed me to scan a stack of receipts for a expense report in no time. The scanner also has a business card slot that pulls the card in and back out at the same spot. This leaves the card un-bent, that way I can put it back in my card stack.

My work requires me to travel often for days, weeks, or even over a month at a time, and this will allow me to easily scan my expenses & reports without the need of relying on a hotel business center. This Epson ES-300W scanner will defiantly be staying in my laptop bag for now on!

One of the first things that I really liked about this scanner was its size and compact nature. As something I will use on the go, it’s important to me not to take up more room than is necessary. It collapses down, latches shut securely and is ready to provide me with hours of scanning without being the size of a bus. One thing I did find challenging was the initial setup of the wireless connection to my laptop. It would not connect to my wireless network initially, even after several attempts, so instead I had to restart the scanner setup and the second time it connected flawlessly on the first try. Once I did, my phone, laptop and PC had no issues at all. The software setup and updates were very simple, it was just that issue of wireless connectivity.

Something else that I noticed right away after scanning a few pictures, was that there was a nice precise white border around all the photo’s that were scanned in. Cosmetically, I found that to be a very nice touch as it made the photos stand out and look more crisp. Documents scanned are also of great quality and I have to say, I’m going to get a ton of use out of this little thing as I have records that I have to keep on a daily basis for my job. To know that I will be able to scan something in right there in the parking lot of whatever location I am in and send it right to my Boss will be a tremendous benefit. No more doing it at home when I just want to relax.

If you want a good quality scanner that you can be completely mobile with, this is the way to go.
