Great router to replace typical ISP supplied router.

I moved from an older Linksys consumer router to this. Even though it's not the latest greatest anymore, it's definitely an improvement over what I had. I'm pairing this with another company's access point to cover my house. As others have probably said in different reviews, this device is more complicated to set up than a typical Linksys or Netgear router, but there are guides available to help through the process.

I was dealing with network issues since August last year. I used different routers, even wireless, but they all hang or stop working and the solution was always reboot, reboot, reboot until I replaced them with this little beast.

It's been a full 6 months and I even forgot that I had a router installed on my network. One thing is for sure, this is not for the faint of heart, absolutely not for beginners, but there is A LOT of information available on the internet.

It's not all the time that you feel as though you got more than you paid for. I bought two of these devices to create a VPN between my aunt's house and myself, they arrived to my transhipper on time and I got them a week later. I pay extra for size/weight so was happy that B&H was efficient with their packaging. The devices themselves are slightly larger than a pack of cards and feel rock solid in your hand. I was warned that these routers aren't the most newbie friendly devices and that I should expect to get my hands dirty on the CLI. However, the GUI ended up being good enough for everything that I needed to do so far. There are MANY videos on the Internet detailing how to get these up and running, how to tweak them and how to setup various VPN configurations so even though they aren't plug and play, they are still very easy to set up. I've actually had a different model on my wishlist for years but never pulled the trigger because I didn't have an actual use for it. When it was time to buy, I found that B&H had it for a lower price than other places. This is a great product at a great price and I intend to purchase two more in the near future.

I have always loved Ubiquiti products. This is my third EdgeRouter for my third house. Rock solid and full of features. Tie this to a good access point and your Internet is bulletproof.

The EdgeRouterX provides enterprise features including gigabit Ethernet, VLANs, DNS forwarding, a DHCP server and even a VPN server for your small home network at a consumer price. I paired mine with an Ubiquiti wireless access point for a complete home networking solution. The EdgeRouter X even provides PoE pass through to power my access point (note: this is not negotiated PoE, so you must make sure any device you will connect to port 4 on the router is compatible with pass through PoE before enabling the feature on the router).

This is about the only router that I could find that was powered via PoE, which is super helpful for me, since the switch closet in our new apartment doesn't have any power (why people?). It can be somewhat challenging to set up if you're not a professional, however there are some great walkthroughs on YouTube. One thing to note - the box doesn't use the standard PoE, it uses a low-voltage 24V PoE standard, so if you have other PoE devices on the same network, this needs to be isolated.

I bought this router as my main firewall device. The user interface is easy to learn and has lots of settings. I like having this dedicated router and putting another wireless router behind it. The commercial routers tend to simplify the security settings, which gives you less control.

This router include all you need to install and control a small network including load balancer and multiple LANs and WANs configurations.
