This replacement Top Plate from Manfrotto is compatible with a Manfrotto MHXPRO-BHQ2 Ball Head. When connected to the head's ball-and-socket joint, it serves as a platform for a compatible quick release plate. A countersunk screw with a 4mm hex screw drive is included to attach the plate the the ball head.

A separately available 4mm hex key is required for installation. To provide the ability to lock a compatible quick release plate to this top plate, a separately available R103807 Replacement Plate Lock Lever and R103808 Replacement Safety Assembly are required.

Q: 4. How stable is it with a video fluid head when panned left/right. Some very light tripods have had a tendency to lift up on one of the legs as I panned with a dampened head?

A: Not the best choice but workable . The more resistance you dial into the fluid head the worse it gets. I've resorted to using my left hand to press down on the legs as I panned with my right. In this situation heavier is better. you could add weight to the legs. Three Matthews Boa bags, one on each leg, would improve the performance noticeably.

Q: 5. What is the weight of this tripod combo vs. the aluminum version which is listed at 7.7 pounds? Thanks!

A: While not a big issue, the Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 Carbon Fiber Tripod actually has a weight of 4.41 lbs. The Manfrotto MHXPRO-3W 3-Way Pan/Tilt Head is correctly 2.2 lbs. The kit has a combined weight of 6.61 lbs. The Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod is 5.51 lbs, so the aluminum version with the MHXPRO-3W would be 7.71 lbs. The carbon fiber kit would be 1.1 lbs lighter than its aluminum version.

Q: 6. Is there a hook on the center column to add a weight?

A: No, it does not. This tripod has the capability for the center column to be extended up and then adjusted to be perpendicular. You do this by hitting a red button on the bottom of the center column where a hook would be.

Q: 7. I need a good tutorial on how to tighten the legs. This is my second tripod where the legs become loose over time. Can someone direct me to a tutorial?

A: Although there isn't a tutorial on this topic, Manfrotto suggests that 3 turns on the screw that secures the leg locks with the provided tool would suffice.

I love the ability to turn the center post 90 degrees and shoot straight down on objects. They even thought to put a clip for tripod carrying strap which can also function as a counter weight hook to keep the tripod standing in high winds or when you have a heavier camera using the 90 degree position of the center post. The new leg release clips are great also because you can release them all at the same time on each leg so you can get the tripod up quicker when in a hurry. 5

Very easy to adjust. When locked, it doesn't slip at all, even with my camera (Nikon D750) and heaviest lens. The ball head friction is adjustable, which is nice if you're doing a video pan (loose), or just framing a composition (tighter). It's a little heavy, but that's an OK tradeoff for its strength. Love it. 5

Used mostly for studio photography, but will also see some location work. It's light and extremely rigid - no wiggles or slack anywhere. When you pick it up to move it the legs stay put and don't flop around. It does what its supposed to do. The 3 piece legs are not as compact as the 4 piece, but that only matters if you will be packing it up often for travel which I don't do. It may also add to the rigidity and is a little easier to set up and take down. 5

There is nothing what they could have done better. The carbon fiber legs are tall and strong but light, the flip locks are easy to use but tight, the center column is sturdy yet versatile, the bubble levels are plentiful, the gear head is precise but fast thanks to the quick release. (If I keep this up, I'll end up writing a poem about it.) The spider has a convenient 3/8 tap that finally gives me a secure place to mount my WiFi transmitter. Seriously, the cost was a little over my budget, yet I am very happy with my purchase. No regrets for spending the extra bucks. One full turn of the knobs is about 7.5 degrees. 5
