Q: 2. how do you connect this to speakers?

A: Connect to external speakers through 3.5mm mini-jacks or optical S/PDIF.

Q: 3. How long is the USB cable included and is it USB-C?

Q: 4. Can I connect to an audio mixer from the groove's headphone output? And will it maintain the high quality sound?

A: Yes you can although it is an 8th inch stereo out, however it sounds fantastic and functions fine as a line level out. So if the 8th inch connector doesn't bother you go for it.

Q: 5. It says here that it works on Mac but in StarTech web page there are no drives or especification that it works with OSX.Do you think it will work on a Macbook Pro 2013 with OSX 10.10?

A: The answer to your question is a resounding yes. It is fully compatible w/ OSX, I have used it for some time on multiple versions of OSX. I can not however tell you definitively if OSX 10.10 will be an issue. But from my experience w/ this device I highly doubt there will be an issue.Runs great, the only issue I have w/ this device is optical input outputs, not inherently being routable. You may use a 3rd party software i.e. Audio Hijack to accomplish this. Hope this gives you peace of mind. I would highly recommend this device.

Q: 6. Does this one work with logitech z5500 5.1

A: Yes, I am using the same speakers right now

Q: 7. Does this work with self-powered microphones? or only with cheaper plug-in power ones (like headset mics). I want to use it with a semi-pro Sony ECM-MS957 which has a stereo 1/8 plug (I can buy an adapter to split to two mono 1/8 plugs). Some interfaces have a capacitor or something inside that charges up and mutes the mic after a minute or so if it's not the plug-in-power type.

A: The StarTech USB Audio Adapter would be compatible with the Sony ECM-MS957 - Stereo Condenser Microphone.

Q: 8. Is your "StarTech ICUSBAUDIO7D" accept USB input? I want to use it for my laptop, to connect to a Z506 Logitech speakers (5.1)

A: No, the StarTech 7.1 USB Audio Adapter External Sound Card BH #STICUSBAUD7D only accepts speakers with 3.5mm or SPDIF connections.
