This developer is a two bath compensating developer. The chemicals in the Divided D-76 are used to prepare two working solutions.

  • The film is placed in solution A for 3 minutes, and then
  • In solution B for 2-4 minutes, depending on the film and contrast desired.
  • Solution A contains the developing agents, and
  • solution B contains the alkali.

Development begins when the film is placed in solution B and lasts until the developing agents retained on the film are exhausted. This method of development holds back the highlights and brings out the shadow detail. The film speed is not reduced.

The shelf life of solution A is 2 months, and solution B is a one shot solution.
