Designed to help create clean vocal recordings in less-than-ideal recording environments, the plastic RF-CPB-18 Reflection Filter from Auray absorbs and diffuses external noise and room reflections. It can be used in any recording scenario that requires microphone isolation, such as tracking in an acoustically untreated room, untreated rehearsal spaces, project and home studios, and professional studios where additional isolation is needed.

The filter features high-density, open-cell acoustic foam wrapped in an ABS plastic curved screen. Its front sliding bracket and rear adjustment rail easily allows you to adjust its height and depth for precise microphone placement. Thanks to its standard 5/8"-27 threaded adapters, the RF-CPB-18 is compatible with most microphone stands, clips, and shockmounts. It is also ideal for desktop recording and broadcast applications when used with a desktop mic stand that features a weighted metal base (not included). The lightweight, 3-pound body lends to portability while its ABS construction assures its durability.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I know it's designed to reduce the effects of a room's acoustics, but how well does it dampen your singing? Would it help to allow practicing in an apartment setting without disturbing neighbours?

A: According to the product description it will give you up to 35dB of sound reduction. Which would be considerable if your interest is in reducing the level of your voice so as not to disturb your neighbors. It seems to have cut outs for your shoulders so it looks like your entire head fits in the box. It says you can remove the sides as well which you would want to do for recording. It seems like it will do what you want.

Q: 2. What additional mounts, if any, would I need to use this with a Blue Yeti Nano?

A: No additional hardware would be required to connect the Blue Yeti Nano to the Auray Foldable Desktop Isolation Filter with Stand.

Q: 3. Will a Shure SM7B on a stand fit inside this?

A: The Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone (BH #SHSM7B) will work inside the Auray VOCDOC-ISOMD Microphone Isolation Chamber (BH # AUVODOCISOMD).

Q: 4. Will this work with the Apogee Mic+?

A: This shield is not recommended for the Apogee Mic+ due to it's smaller size, as well as potential issues regarding not having access to the gain and headphone controls on the mic if placed inside. A standard reflection would be better suited for this mic, such as B&H # AURFCMSK.

Q: 5. Will this work with the Audio Technica 4040 microphone?

A: Yes it will.

Q: 6. I use a sennheiser mk416. Would that mount well in this? It's 15" w/ pop filter. I need about 6" distance. 10" for my head.

A: The total width of the ISOVOX 2 Midnight Portable Vocal Isolation Booth is 31.5", with just over a 1/4'' of that space taken up by the foam behind the microphone. Given the dimensions you have provided, this would leave about 2" or less between your mouth and the end of the Sennheiser MZW-415 - Foam Windscreen.

Q: 7. Will this work on a desk anchored boom with "Heil FL-2", supporting an AT2035 mic? I'm aware that it would accommodate the mic but wonder about the weight on the swivel boom?

A: No. This will not work wth a broadcast arm. Regardless of weight it is not designed to be mounted in such a fashion.

Q: 8. Does this work with a Neumann tlm 103? & do I need another shock mount to connect it to a mic stand?

A: It is definitely not intended for a shorter mic like the TLM 103, however that's the mic I'm using with it. To get it to work, I had to use the shock mount that came with the TLM 103, but flip it upside down. Fortunately, the mic can be threaded into the shock mount this way. Unfortunately, the ISO-Armor-2 has to sit on top of the shock mount, reducing the shock-absorbing effectiveness. The mic and ISO-Armor-2 are not able to float the way the shock mount is intended. The added weight of the ISO-Armor-2 would probably prevent this anyway. It's too bad I can't include a picture, because it'd be much easier to show. Just to be clear, the ISO-Armor-2 isn't a shock mount and doesn't provide any connection to a mic stand.

Q: 9. will this work with an audio technica AT2035 and shockmount?

A: Yes, you can use this Auray Foldable Desktop Isolation Filter with Stand together with an AT2035, in its shockmount.

Q: 10. When using the ISOVOX2 to record vocals over an audio track. Would the mic pick up the shadow of the audio track from the headphones being that your standing so close to the mic?

A: I think that it would depend on the headphone type (open back, closed back, etc.) and volume of the headphones. It would probably help reduce a little headphone bleed.

If you have an otherwise quite recording room (such as at night), but want to get rid of the room reverberation, this will work quite well. Perfect for home recording. In fact, I would say it works so well that it would be helpful inside a WhisperRoom, wherein the WS provides the sound attenuation for noise control, but the IsoVox 2 provides the anechoic aspect without using up real estate for thick wall foam or fiberglass.

The only issue is that it gets hot inside quickly. So for short takes of a song, then come and out for a minute---no problem. But if you are planning on a half-hour long podcast in one go, not likely.
Nevertheless, it yields tremendous anechoic advantage for not much scratch, and your projects will benefit tremendously for it. This is a professional-level tool in acoustic quality and build.

Don't skimp on a cheap speaker stand---get the biggest and baddest you can afford.

I work in an open office environment and part of my job duties involves recording audio for our learning courses. I had been putting a blanket over my head to get any sort of sound quality. With the ISOVOX2 I am now able to get clear and consistent sound each time I record without the noise and reflections that have plagued me. I think this is a great buy for the price!

The Auray Desktop Isolation Filter (RF-DT-10) looks great on my desk and produces drier, cleaner vocals without treating my entire room. I have some absorption foam on my office walls but, without this filter, there's still a bit of reflection and background noise. I set this up with my MJE-modded Hulk 990 Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone. When I introduced the RF-DT-10, it created isolation and helped reduce the ambient sound of my laptop fan while taming some of the reverb from an adjacent wall. The build quality is legit and enhances the aesthetic of my setup. I've previously used, and loved, the Auray ISO-ARMOR-2 which has more aggressive isolation for rooms with more echo/noise and this desktop filter has more of the quality I've come to expect. The RF-DT-10 doesn't impart any color on my vox and only helps to shield the takes from unwanted noise. I received this product in exchange for my honest review.

I've been using this box to record voice over commercials for my podcast, NYC Video Podcast. I use a Shure SM7B mic which is high quality, but my attic walls cause a lot of unwanted echos and makes my voice sound unprofessional.
As soon as I step into my IsoVox booth, my voice sounds rich and clear.
My one grip with this booth is that it isn't very compatible with the SURE SM7B mic because the mic is too big to mount nicely on the center post. I picked up a $15 mic stand and propped it into the booth and ran the cables down and into a clear container box (pictured) and ran the cables out the back end of my desk into my sound recorder board (Rodecaster Pro.)
The elevated height of the ISOVOX propped atop of the clear container allows me to sit comfortable at my desk and record voiceovers.
I'm very happy with this purchase.
