Stop the writing on your Canon 17-40mm f/4 USM lens from appearing in your underwater images with Ikelite's Anti-Reflection Ring. It blocks the aperture, focal length, and other written information on the front element of the lens from being reflected in the interior of the dome port attached to your camera housing. Without the ring, these unwanted reflections could show up in your photos and videos. A self-adhesive vinyl surface enables easy attachment to your lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a canon 60d and in the future would like to upgrade to a fullframe camera. Would an Canon Extension Tube EF 25 II benefit me to get the wide angle lens ?

A: The Extension Tube EF 25 II is designed for lenses of 50mm and above, it will not work with this lens which is a 17-40mm. That being said it is a great wide angle lens that you can use on your 60d now and it is also compatible with Full Frame Canon Cameras like the 5D Mark IV and 6D for when you upgrade in the future.

Q: 2. will this lens work with large family groups?

A: Yes, a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens can work for shooting large family portraits.

Q: 3. Is this lens internal focus and zoom or external focus/zoom? (i.e. does it get longer when focusing or zooming?)

A: Yes this lens has internal focusing and zoom.

Q: 4. Can this be used with Canon Rebel

A: Yes it can be used with Canon Rebel models (film and digital). The Canon 17-40mm f4 USM L series lens is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras (film and digital).

Q: 5. I use a Canon 6D, and I'm considering buying this lens. I'm a bit concerned with the fact that it only opens up to f/4. Should I be concerned? Or would ISO be able to make up for it without reducing image quality?

A: I have the 6D and the 17-40mm f/4L lens and they work great together. The full frame sensor in the 6D lets you crank up the ISO without adding too much noise and the noise reduction features in Adobe Lightroom virtually eliminate any noise that is present. I routinely shoot indoors in low light with no flash and have had no trouble. I switched to the 6D 2 years ago and it took a little while to get used to the fact that I could crank up the ISO to 12000+ and still get great images.

Q: 6. Do I need a mount adaptor for the EF 7-40mm to be used with Canon RP? Would it make the lens 17-40 longer and bulker?

A: The excellent Canon 17-40mm (I have had one for years) is made for cameras with a mirror box. It must have that same distance on any camera otherwise it will not be able to focus to infinity. So if you chop off the mirror, in order to maintain that distance, you have to add it back in the form of an adapter. The advantage is you get use your present lenses. The disadvantage is you do add bulk to the camera/lens combination. However, when you can, sell the 17-40mm and get a native R mount lens.

Q: 7. Would this lens work with a Mitakon Zhongyi turbo II lens adapter attached to a Blackmagic pocket cinema camera? Can I control the focus, and the aperture? Thanks.

A: It appears that the Mitakon Zhongyi turbo II lens adapter is a manual adapter, which means there would be no electronic communication between the lens and the camera. You would not be able to adjust the lenss aperture, and you would need to focus manually.

Q: 8. i want to combine this lense with the sony a6000 with sigma mc 11 adapter . or should i just get the sony 10 18 mm . thanks

A: Generally native lenses work more smoothly than non-native lenses with adapters. Also best in mind that the a6000 is an APS-C camera so the 17-40 will become a 27-64mm equivalent lens on the a6000 (give or take a few mm, depends on exact APS-C sensor size)TL;DR 10-18

Q: 9. Does it come with a lens hood?

A: Yes, the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Lens comes with the lens hood.

Q: 10. Is using this lens with a speedbooster on an APS-C camera will effectively convert the focal length to 12-28mm with an aperture of one stop faster?

A: Yes, but you still need to apply the APS-C crop factor to the "12-28mm f/2.8" that you're getting via the Speedbooster.

Great Lens. Especially at the sale price I paid from B and H.
Solid build.

Classic Canon L-Series lens. I purchased this with a sigma MC-11 adaptor for my Sony a7Rii. I was cautiously optimistic given the lens's age and its DxOMark pixel resolution score (16-17MP).

I'm using the lens for landscape photography with some noticeable diffraction above f/11. The f/4 aperture makes the lens much lighter and its age makes it much more affordable than contemporary wide-angle zooms (especially for a mirrorless platform).

Given its price and weight, I'm more than happy with its performance. The landscapes I shoot are for prints. The lens may be holding my sensor back a bit, but if the image is correctly composed with the proper settings, any sharpness can be correctly dialed in in post. Where the a7Rii and Riii sensor can be punishing on some lower-level lenses, I haven't necessarily found that to be the case here. Although if I upgrade to an a7Riv, I'll likely purchase a new primary, while keeping this as a secondary.

I was expecting to utilize focus-peaking in conjunction with a proper depth-of-field in my compositions. However, with the MC-11 adaptor, phase autofocus has been quick and efficient outside of low-light settings (which this lens isn't built for). You'll lose eye-AF as well as tracking, but that's not a problem for me as I only utilize those features in portraiture. Contrast AF is useless, but I generally find that to be the case on most lens platforms.

Highly recommend this lens to anyone on a budget, or for a piece of gear that you don't want to be afraid of getting banged up etc.

This is such an amazing lens for my Canon 6D Mark II. I have wanted to have a wide angle lens for my full frame and this is a fantastic lens at a very good price. It is going to be my go-to lens for group pictures. I am SO glad that I have added this to my gear.

If you have even wondered about purchasing this lens, now is the time to pull the trigger.

This is a great L quality lens, and the deeply discounted price makes it a no-brainer. You can look at MTF curves, clarity tests, but at the end of the day, it is a Canon L series lens and if it is good enough for Canon to give it that designation, it's good enough for me to add it to my collection.

It's easy to get caught up with the scorecard game, and I have been guilty of spending too much time on DXO looking at scores myself. At the end of the day, the proof is in the picture, and I have yet to be disappointed with my purchase. Great photographers take great photos, and have been doing so since before this lens was designed, the point? This lens isn't going to be the rate-limiting factor in many photos, so unless you are going to blow a picture up to larger than your big screen TV and look at it from 6 away, chances are you'll be just fine.

It's true that the technology with their RF lenses is superior, it a byproduct of the physics (optics), but that comes at a price. Do I plan on purchasing the RF 15-35 2.8L IS USM? You betcha! Will I still have a use for the 17-40 4L USM, you betcha. Great glass is great glass!

This lens works on my DSLR's and really well on the EOS RP! It's well built like all the Canon L series lenses, great, albeit not weather-proof like some of the tanks in this series.

At it's current price, it is the cheapest L series lens available, cheaper than the 70-200 f/4 USM, which is another great, non-IS lens delivering great images. Even if you plan on making the transition to the mirrorless R line up, these lenses perform amazingly well, with an incredible IQ resulting in fast autofocus.
