I had the old 16-35 version one...and the corner distortion was too much. I did side by side comparisons on a tripod of each lens...and this one was so much better. Plus it handles stray light from the sun much better......showing so much lens flare. A much sweeter lens....but the bigger lens filter size...82mm is a little annoying..but if that's what it took to make this lens rock...I am OK with it!! I love this lens!! thank you Canon!!

I use the lens mainly for landscape and portrait. It gives a really nice bokeh background while my main subject remains sharp. I can't wait to upgrade my 30D to 5D Mark II to release the full power of the lens. The only thing that I am not so used to is how big the lens is.

This SWA zoom is by far the sharpest in it's range I have ever owned, and I've owned some of the best glass offered by any manufacturer. On my 5D2, I download to a 24 monitor, blow the image to 200%, and I can't believe the results! I'm very critical, and I can't find a downside to this fabulous piece of equipment. I use the peripheral correction on the 5D2, another great feature! This eliminates the inherent vignetting of SWA optics. Can't express my satisfaction enough! Thanks Canon!

I bought it for my event and portrait business, Used the previous model since the 1st year it came out and still it was working very good but this was worth the upgrade.

I bought this lens to do landscape work (no, it doesn't get used as a shovel), amazing, when coupled to a full frame sensor it will practically shoot behind you. Focuses well in low light situations. Because of the wide angle nature of this lens there is distortion and vignetting. Easy fix in DxO.

I use it on my 5D, fabulous edge to edge sharpness with the full frame sensor with high contrast and low flare. True ultra wide angle without the fish eye look. Great for landscapes, edgy fetish shots, fine art, everything. A great quality lens at a great price.

very sharp focus, superb builded, quite, very fast focus, easy to carry around

I got this lens just before Christmas so I could take wide shots at close range while unwrapping gifts from under the tree. It worked exactly as I expected, I did not have to back out of the room to capture 4 and 5 people along with the tree and other decoration in the room. The large aperture allowed me to capture sharp images in the relatively dim light with excellent quality.

If you are shopping for a lens in this price range, you are obviously serious about what you want and how you want it to perform. You will not be dissapointed with the EF 16-35mm f/2.8 II. It has the same great build quality as the rest of Canon's L series lenses and feels comfortable when handled. The USM is fast, quiet and accurate - which is to be expected. It is weather sealed to keep out dust and moisture, alhtough it does take a large 82mm filter size. Its wide open results are very sharp, and corners are excellent for a lens this wide. This is a perfect lens for your wide work - landscapes, stage work, parties, weddings. I use it as a walk-around lens (great for european cities) and truly enjoy the results.

I do a lot of portraits, landscapes, and real-estate photography. The pictures are fabulous and sharp.
