Accurately measure the quality of your lights with this MAVOSPEC BASE Industrial Light Meter from Gossen. This spectrometer uses incident metering to measure light from 10-100,000 lux as well as in the visible light spectrum of 380-780nm. Also, it works with a variety of different types of lighting, including LEDs, fluorescent lights, halogen lamps, and natural daylight. It offers a variety of measurement options as well, including CRI, CCT, peak wavelength, color purity Duv, chromaticity, and flicker measurement. This meter even supports the TM-30-15 color rendering measurement of Rf and Rg as established by IES. The device is optimized for one-handed operation and has a 2.1" color 320 x 240 TFT display for viewing and changing settings. It can save readings to an included 4GB microSD card using a CSV format and runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. Additionally, it has a USB port for firmware updates.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can Gossen MAVOSPEC measures flash light?

A: Hi,The Mavospec cannot measure flash light in a proper way, due to the long integration time. However it's capable of providing spectral data for the flash light.Normally when measuring flash light, the aim is to set a proper exposure for the cameras. For this, the Mavospec is useless. For this purpose, use e. g. a Seconic exposure meter.Tore

Q: 2. Since there's no power button, and the meter is permanently draining the battery, is it a good idea or a bad idea to continually remove the battery when the meter is not in use?

A: The battery inside the Gossen Digisix 2 Ambient Light Meter uses very little power, so it is not imperative to remove the battery from the meter. However, if it eases your concern, if you will not be using the meter for more 3-6 months or longer and you have a safe space to store the battery, then you may remove the battery for your convenience.

Q: 3. Will this work with pocket wizards?

A: It will only with PC connecting cable

Q: 4. Does Gossen Digisix II.fit on an accessory shoe; like on an old Nikon S2?

A: The Gossen Digisix 2 Ambient Light Meter has a 1/4" screw opening in the back. You can use an adapter like this to place it on the shoe of a camera. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/860269-REG/Revo_sa_cs_14m_Hot_Shoe_to_1_4.html

Q: 5. Where is this made?

A: It is made in the USA.

Q: 6. Is this aperture priority for readings?

A: The available measuring functions when using the Gossen DigiPro F2 - Flash and Ambient Light Meter, B&H # GODPFAL, are Shutter priority, Contrast measurement, Aperture priority, Exposure Value measurement, or CINE (frame rate) mode.

Q: 7. Are there any differences between this Digisix 2 and the older Gossen Digisix?

A: There are not any major differences, they basically upgraded the first a bit. From Gossen: This meter expands the measuring functions of manually adjustable cameras to include incident light measurement, by means of which better exposure can be achieved for unusual subject contrast. Integrated contrast measurement also indicates whether or not subject contrast, i.e. the difference between the brightest and darkest part of the subject, can be managed by the sensor or the film .

Q: 8. Does this meter come with a case?

A: Yes, the Gossen DigiPro F2 flash/ambient light meter V2 comes with a protective softcase.

Q: 9. is this lightmeter should fire the flash when connected by wire?

A: How do i connect the Meeter to read the flash without cord ? I tried many times and it doesn’t work?!

Q: 10. Is the screen easy to see in low light?

A: Yes, the LCD on the Gossen Digisix 2 Ambient Light Meter is easy to see in low light.

Great for any film camera! Have not had a problem.

This is a brilliant, small and lightweight meter. It is super easy to use either as an incident meter or as a reflected light meter. Just flick the dome to change from one to the other. It reads in light values and it is very easy to read the corresponding aperature and shutter choices. B&H were great, the meter came perfectly packaged. I recommend both B&H and Gossen.

This is an excellent meter. I hardly ever know it's hanging around my neck. Tremendously accurate. I'm a big fan of a Silicon Cell in a meter. Well worth the money.

It may not be fully automated, but it'll get the job done.

I still shoot a lot of film in cameras that don't have TTL metering. After using spot, broader scope reflective meters and this incident meter (and its predecessors) for decades now, I have settled on incident meters as best fitting my style of photography. For what I do, it is as good as the excellent TTL meters in my Nikon D4 and Olympus digital cameras. In some admittedly rare situations, it is even better. I prefer the Gossen to corresponding Sekonic models purely because of the form factor. Both are excellent tools.

This is a nice compact light meter, you just have to be careful about which mode your are in, because the mode button is exposed, and can easily change.

I have used many light meters in the last sixty years, many of them Gossen, and this tiny marvel might be the best. If you don’t need spot or flash, this might be the best meter out there. All its functions are easy to find and use, and the bonus clock, timer and thermometer have all come in handy.

Not cheap, but there are not many alternatives if you want a little exposure meter that fits in your pocket. Reflective and incident light measurements, all you need basically. The large analogue scale show all possible shutter speed/aperture combination for a measured EV value. Great little tool.

I have used the previous version of this meter for many years until it bought the farm. It's perfect for use with BW or color negative film. Scan the scene in reflective mode and the contrast range is displayed. Set the exposure to 1.5 stops above the min value (or 2 stops above in a really high contrast scenes) and your negative will be perfect every time. I have not found a meter better for negatives. (For slides I use my trusty old Minolta 1 degree spot meter).
With mirrorless digital, WYSIWYG makes a light meter totally obsolete so consider this meter the best choice only for negative film general photography.

Had to replace a not working Gossen SBC. The new meter is small, light weight, and easy to use. 95% of my light readings are incident readings. Having a built in timer is a bonus.
