Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work with an aps-c camera? sony a55v

A: Yes the sensor size will crop the image the lens captures so there may be a small difference between the image you see in the view finder and the image the sensor captures.

Q: 2. Hi, will this work on a canon EOS 50D?

A: Yes, this will. :)

Q: 3. One review mentioned using a focusing rail? What is he talking about?

A: This is a manual lens, so, to get the focus point, you need to move the camera or the object. The focusing rail todo this, to move the camera back and forward instead finding the focus.

Q: 4. Do you think the Mitakon Zhongyi 20mm f/2 4.5x Super Macro lens would work on photographing jewelry, rings and such or is it too close?

A: Magnification Range: 4.5x to 4x would probably be a bit much for jewelry. I would highly suggest the 100mm macro lens by canon, please review the two following lens Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens https://bhpho.to/3yw7YoX Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens https://bhpho.to/38rlvDC

Q: 5. Where is it made?

A: SHENYANG CITY LIAONING PROVINCE,CHINA

Q: 6. Hi. Will this work on a canon rebel t5i

A: Yes, it will work with your camera. With this super macro lens, you focus by moving the camera

Q: 7. I'm trying to use this on my canon 6d but I can't see anything and it says f00. Am I doing something wrong here?

A: First, this is a manual lens with no electronic contacts to communicate with newer camera bodies. As such, the camera cannot know what the aperture setting is. As the manual suggests, one should use the maximum aperture when taking pictures: the aperture on the lens (which is the ring on the front of the lens), NOT the cameras aperture setting. The proper shutter speed would be set by the camera under the cameras manual setting. My Nikon lets me know when the subject is in focus, but it is better to move the camera into focus (using a macro focusing rail, or something similar) or focusing using the magnification lens ring. This lens is a very limited use kind of lens: to take extremely magnified images _only_ at close range that are not typically achieved with conventional macro / micro lenses. Do not expect this to act like or be as utilitarian as a regular lens; do not think of this as a regular 20mm lens.

Q: 8. Will this lens work on a canon sx60? How about a rebel?

A: On Canon rebel camera works (manual focus and aperture ) on SX60 would not work

Q: 9. Would this lens work on my Nikon D3400 body and would you recommend a focus rail even with a solid tripod?

A: Yes it will work with D3400 , focus rail will help .

Q: 10. This lenses works on NIKON D80 body?

A: Yes. You just have to set it to Manual and set desired shooting speed.

To achieve great results with this lens requires patience, some small experience and some dedicated macro gear. I like to get the lens in rough focus with my focusing rail then achieve critical focus and image placement with an XYZ stage and a rotating tilt/tip stage. As you would expect, a good stacking software like Zerene Stacker is necessary unless you are shooting flat subjects. All these things are not essential but they certainly make life easier. I have used a number of light sources but a simple continuous 2 LED light system on flexible goosenecks works about as good as much more complex and expensive systems for my purposes. Such inexpensive systems are available from B&H. It is helpful to study and understand how high magnification macro works and couple that with endless patiences with the emphasis on patience in order to achieve good results. Do these things and you will achieve results that will knock your socks off.

I cannot believe the quality of this macro lens for the price, I'm getting excellent/sharp still and even video with it attached to a Black Magic Pocket Cinema 4K -- be careful though, this lens is ONLY for macro and will be of no use for any other purpose.

I've only had this lens for about a week and haven't put it through all its paces because I'm moving studio but I'm really impressed. This is a true macro lens - manual focus and rediculously shallow depth of field.
Tried a couple of hand helds with reasonable results - should be great with a focussing rail. What I really like is the small objective - makes it simple to get lots of light on the subject something that isn't all that easy with the larger objective on my MP-E65.
Can't wait to get this lens into my new studio and really work it

I use this lens for for images of plant parts 5mm in size, such as small flowers, grass/sedge scales, and tree buds. I do all photography handheld and am unsure why some online reviews of this lens indicate that handheld use isn't possible. I use generally f/8-f/16 apertures, fast shutter speed (1/160-1/200), and extremely high ISO (up to 6400 in dark situations, significantly less in full sun), and the camera's native flash and get images that, while not always exceptionally beautiful, contain useful details that are difficult to capture with other lenses. Botanical photography benefits from the extremely close focal distance of this lens - in all of these photos my hand is resting on the lens while holding the subject out of frame, so I'm generally able to get very stable shots that may be impossible with longer focus distances. Photography of mobile subjects is basically impossible, although I've got lucky a few times with slow-moving fellows.

Even though this is a really affordable lens, image quality is top notch. Not the easiest lens to use since there's no focus ring (only way to focus is to move your camera front/backwards). DoF is EXTREMELY narrow, but magnification ratio is great at.

I have started using this for detail shots on invertebrate and to photograph zooplankton... and it works great! Obviously it doesn't working like your regular macro lens, being 4x-4.5x and it cannot focus on infinity, but used with proper lighting, I get spectacular results!
