The SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter enables you to capture footage with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio on your camera with a 16:9 sensor. This results in an image that out of the camera will look distorted, as if your subjects were stretched taller and thinner than normal. This is easily corrected in post with virtually any modern NLE, creating an image suitable for viewing on wide-screen. The SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x works with lenses that have a front element physically no larger than 40mm in diameter. For full-frame sensors, SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-40 1.33x be used with 40mm or longer focal length lenses; it is compatible with select wider lenses when using S35 and Micro Four Thirds sensors.

The Anamorphot-40 features adjustable focus marked normal and near. The near adjustment allows you to focus on subjects two feet away; setting the adapter to normal allows you to focus on subjects from three feet to infinity. The Anamorphot-40 mounts to lenses with a non-rotating front and a 52mm front filter thread. This adapter is compatible with full-frame and APS-C camera sensors, and with both automatic and manual focus lenses.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work on a sony fs700?

A: It does depend on the taking lens. It's small. The front mount on the taking lens has to be 52mm or smaller for this adapter to work.

Q: 2. has anyone else found if you stretch the 16:9 footage shot with this to a 2.35:1 ratio it is too stretched horizontally at that advertised aspect ratio (2.35:1)? Testing on footage shooting a perfect cirular object (ball) to get teh ball perfectly round again after desqueezing needed an asepct of only approximately 2.13:1 (not a proper anamorphic look) thus making this adapter really only a 1.2x anamorphic adapter and not 1.333x ?

A: Yes and it is more noticeable on near objects than far ones for me.

Q: 3. hello, I shoot with modded Olympus OM lenses with threads of 49mm. Will this adapter work?

A: Yes, here is the rear mounting thread stated in the Specs section of the lens: Rear Mounting Thread: 52 mm You will need a 49mm-to-52mm step up ring.

Q: 4. Can I use this on a MFT camera? What lens should I use and does it screw directly onto a 52mm thread no clamp needed?

A: yes- it screws directly onto 52mm thread (62mm front thread for filters etc) I use on my Panasonic G85 as low as 15mm f1.7 lens (with e-stabilization added to crop out slight vignetting) but with no vignetting at all at 17mm or above focal length works great- (the '40' means you can't go larger than 40mm front element size I think with lenses) search on youtube (can't share links here) for SLRMagic 1,33x Anamorphic Adapter Test // GH5 .. this guy used a 20mm f1.7 panacake..

Q: 5. Would this work with the SLR MAGIC 17mm lens with a BMPCC-sized sensor?

A: I have the blackmagic micro cinema camera, which has the same 2.88 crop factor as the BMPCC. I also have the 17mm SLR magic lens and this anamorphic adapter works great with it. however the 12mm slr magic lens does not work, so I wouldnt go lower than 17mm... no croping needing image is great from the lens.

Q: 6. I'm not sure I understand what this is. So, I have an A7iii that I use a 50mm lens on for my short films. If I buy this and put it on my 50mm lens, it will squeeze it to an anamorphic ratio as if I were using an anamorphic lens, and then I de-squeeze or in post back to 16:9 or 21:9 just like I would if I had shot the clip with an actual anamorphic lens. Is that correct?

A: Yes, that is correct.

Q: 7. Can this be used with a Nikon N6006 SLR?

A: Yes, it can be possible to use the SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter (Compact) with the Nikon N6006 if you stick with a front-end lens element no larger than 40mm and focal lengths longer than 50mm.

Q: 8. can i use this adapter with nikon 50mm AF lens for analog photography?

A: The SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x works with lenses that have a front element physically no larger than 40mm in diameter. For full-frame sensors, SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-40 1.33x be used with 40mm or longer focal length lenses.

Q: 9. has anyone else found if you stretch the 16:9 footage shot with this to a 2.35:1 ratio it is too stretched horizontally at that advertised aspect ration (2.35:1)? Testing on footage shooting a perfect cirular object (ball) I found that for the ball to look perfectly circular after desqueezing an aspect raio of only approximately 2.13:1 is required (not a proper anamorphic look) thus making me question if this is actually a true 1.333x adapter and more actually close to only a 1.2x stretch (less than 1.333x..)? Appreciate any feedback

A: Others have found the stretching not to be exact either. We suspect variances in taking lenses, cameras and editing software. You may wish to first consider SLR Magic lenses for your production.

Q: 10. Can I use it with FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/2 R WR Lens?

A: The SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter (Compact) (B&H# SLRAC40133) may be used with the FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/2 R WR Lens (Black) (B&H# FU232B) if a Sensei 43-52mm Aluminum Step-Up Ring (B&H# SESUR4352) is used between them: https://bhpho.to/31nZO2B

As a film student on a budget, I had done plenty of research before committing to this purchase and I am glad I did. I am even happier that this adapter performs even better that I expected it to after reading and watching reviews. The lens flares are a satisfying diamond blue and perfectly horizontal once you have correctly positioned the adapter in front of the lens. I shoot on a Lumix G7 so I had to get a step-up ring to fit the adapter with the 46mm lens mount. I think getting SLR Magic's anamorphic adapter is a better option than buying a full-on anamorphic lens because you are free to attach it to different zoom or prime lenses with different focal lengths and depths of field.

S’adapte très bien sur un objectif Nikon 35mm 1.8, très beaux flares, un peu plus long pour faire le point mais ça vaut le coup, le rendu final est très cinématographique. Très satisfait de cet achat.

Using the SLR Magic Anamorphot-40 1.33x Anamorphic Adapter
with my SLR Magic Hyper Prime 25mm T0.95 cine lens (also purchased from B&H) is a really nice combination.
The two really work well together. The images are amazing. For the price you can't go wrong. I find that SLR Magic lens are well made. Its really fun shooting and editing anamorphic content. Presently shooting lumix g9 (purchased from B&H) with latest firmware update.

I couldn't be more excited about this purchase. Already shot with it a number of times and it's paying for itself quickly. I love the anamorphic look but it's obviously a very expensive look to be into. Been using this with my Panasonic GH5 and 25mm 1.7 and loving the results. Elevates the aesthetic of everything I'm working on. Sharp in the right places. Flarey and dirty in the right places too.

This adapter isn't for everyone but I'm in love. At first I was a bit disappointed with how terribly soft and level of chromatic aberration in the image, but that was because I was trying to shoot way too wide open. When I stopped down to f/7 and higher the image started to look amazing. The bokeh even at f/7 was really pleasant. Using taking lenses that lack focusing hard stops may be an issue though because of the weigh of the adapter. My canon 50mm f/1.4 focus ring will just spin and spin and not able to push or pull the adapter, making focusing impossible. I bought the rangefinder adapter but it wasn't for me. This isn't just a pop and play adapter and takes way more time to get your shot, but I love the results.
