A: The padding is very thin between 1/16 and 1/8 inch. Definately, not a quarter inch. No padding is not right either.

A: The useable pocket space is about 5 3/8 (zipper down to pocket bottom) x 8 3/4 (across inner side seams) - the pocket itself being bit larger. My tripod fits well into the bag but does not allow much give to the pocket depth. Hope this helps. Pleased with quality of the bag.
