For Church Streaming through ProPresenter7. Went through two different hdmi capture cards. One elgato and one avermedia. They both had problems that you could eventually work through but made streaming a headache. This device seems to just work! I don't know why is has to cost so much though.

Video streaming church services. The all in one computer in use has just one usb 3.1 port which we were using for capture of video. Wanted to use more than one camera and the Magewell capture dongle did the trick since the computer has 4 usb 3.0 ports. May buy more in the future to add additional cameras.

Just plug and play. I debated on this vs. the Gen 2 and decided on the Plus.
Great quality output and everything I needed.

I have been using Magewell's lighter earlier versions of this for several years and every iteration has been a straightforward, always reliable way to get nearly any HDMI video signal into a generic USB Webcam-Compatible format.

Even better now, with a loop-through and analog audio input. I am using it to send a video and audio feed from an installed PTZ camera and mic-array (originally meant for recording classroom instruction) to a Web Conferencing USB connection at the teacher's location.

It does exactly what it is supposed to do.

Some caveats about things I have read elsewhere:

Yes. It and all of the Magewell adapters do get very hot to the touch. I wish they didn't, but they do. So..., they keep working. Just be sure that it is mounted with good air-flow and don't use any adhesives that will turn to goo, when they get hot.

Someone observed that they had success streaming video from a PC, but not a Mac. I have had fine results from a Mac, though I am also using an HDMI splitter of the sort that seems to hold back the HDCP protection. So, if you have a problem with putting Mac video into this, you can look into what is going on with HDCP. Mac's default to HDCP whenever they can, but will turn it off if they are connected to a monitor that doesn't support HDCP.

At any rate, I would not try to put an HDCP encoded signal into this and expect it to pass.

I have not tested the audio on it, the the video quality is excellent. The HDMI pass-through has no noticeable loss in quality.

I use it to stream 8-hour corporate seminars around 12 days/month. This is essential to my studio.

The 2nd gen silver magewell served me well for 6 years. That one overheated occasionally if left plugged in overnight but would work again after I unplugged it a bit to let it cool down. This version is much better for thermal and adds hdmi loop through with audio/mic inputs.
