Q: 1. How does the quality of this compare to the Rode PSA1?

A: The quality of this studio boom arm would be similar to the Rode PSA1 Studio Boom Arm for Broadcast Microphones, BH #ROPSA1, but it has a shorter reach of 28-inches fully extended.

Q: 2. Is it possible to mount/suspend this arm from above?

A: The MBA38 is not intended to suspend from above. It does come with two types of mounts -- a clamp style mount and permanent flange mount. The stem for the arm inserts into the mount from the top. You could attach the clamp mount to a shelf and then position the arm so the mic comes downward, but the arm can not be mounted upside down.

A: Use a bit of mineral oil or WD-40. The spring tension will loosen wth time. There is no tensino adjustment.

While these arms and I use both the MBA28 and MBA38, are rather stiff, I far prefer them over similar brands, always noiseless, stay in place, substantial feel and function. I will not say who, but paid a lot more and got a lot less.

When looking for a boom arm for cramped cluttered desk, I began searching for a shorter arm with high quality construction. The 28" Samson was a perfect match. It starts with the well built clamp and extends down the arm that has no external springs and excellent joints. It moves smoothly and is strong enough to support heavy loads. I am using it with a shock mount and an AT 2035 mic. It performs wonderfully.

Feels really solid. Clamped it to the bookshelf next to my desk to get the right angle for my home office space without obscuring monitors. Requires some effort to move the arm up and down but that also means it doesn't move around when you don't want it to so I like it. I was able to leave one of the fasteners loose so I can swing it back and forth freely which works great for me when I'm not actively using it.

I do a lot of virtual conference meetings and am part of a podcast. This mic is easy to attach and gives superior sound. I am truly thrilled. Plus, the service by BH is always on spot!

I just received and installed the arm. It does not feel cheap. It is very string and holds the weight of my Rode NT USB mic really well.

The arms are very tight, which I like since this will guarantee that your mike will not cause the arms to lower after a long time.

It includes 2 Velcro straps(very tiny by the way) that can be used to tie any cables that go between your device and your mic. I was slightly dissapointed on the straps since they looked kind of cheap.

The MBA 28 is 28 inches in length when the arms are fully extended. This means that each arm is around 14 inches long. After noticing this, I thought that I should have gone with the MBA38. This is a detail that is not really well explained in the item's description.

So far, I am very pleased with my purchase.

It definitely takes some force to move it. I use two arms when placing it. But it feels very solid. Love that it included multiple mounting hardware options (the design of my desk made it impossible to use the clamp).

I spent a long time thinking about what size to get. The 28 is just right for a small-ish desk if you place it on the half of the desk closest to you. I think it would have been too small if placed in the far corner (though this is a rather deep desk).

I'm surprised you never see this arm advertised more, or highlighted in reviews and youtube videos. It has terrific build quality, very stable, can hold light or heavy microphones. It's the total package. Using it right now with a Shure SM7B and it looks great as well.
