Stop the writing on your Carl Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 lens from appearing in your underwater images with Ikelite's Anti-Reflection Ring. It blocks the aperture, focal length, and other written information on the front element of the lens from being reflected in the interior of the dome port attached to your camera housing. Without the ring, these unwanted reflections could show up in your photos and videos. A self-adhesive vinyl surface enables easy attachment to your lens.

  • Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How would you grade this lense for landscape and (to some extent) portrait photography as far as details/dynamic range, sharpness and colour balance are concerned?

A: I would not use the 12mm Touit for portrait photography. It is fantastic for landscape photography with minimal distortion and beautiful color.

Q: 2. What firmware version is installed on this lens?

A: Our stock is updated with the latest firmware.

Q: 3. Does the lens you are selling have the latest software so it does not have to be sent back Zeiss to be updated?

A: As far as we know yes it does come with the latest firmware. Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to inspect the lens prior to shipping them out.

Q: 4. How well would this lens be expected to perform for shooting the milky way? I am currently shooting with the kit 18-35mm lens and am looking to take get better image quality when shooting at night than i can achieve with the kit lense. Is there a compatible Nex7 lens that would be recommended before this one? I don't mind if it would require an adapter, just looking for a good night photography lens with a reasonable price.

A: In this focal range and price range I would say this is the best you could opt for to give you improved image quality over your 18-35mm kit lens. Sony offers a 16mm f2.8 lens but it would not give you the same field of view as this lens would, and the optical quality of this Zeiss lens is much greater than the Sony 16mm option.

Q: 5. Will this lens work on the new FF Sony E-mount cameras?

A: The Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 Lens (Sony E-Mount) can be used on the full frame Sony E mount cameras, though the cameras will crop down to an APS-C size sensor mode. This lens is not designed to cover a full frame sensor.

Q: 6. I'm looking for a macro lens for my Nex-6.Is there a difference between a true Macro lens, and this lens, which offers 1:1 Macro capability? Is there anything that the Sony 30mm f/3.5 Macro lens will do that this lens will not?(For example, I read somewhere that a true macro will have a flat focus plane, rather than a curved focus plane. Is the focus plane of this lens flat or curved?)

A: I own both the Sony 30 and the Zeiss 50. The image quality of the 50 is astounding. It is insanely sharp. The 30 is pretty good, but not nearly as sharp. The 50's 2.8 means a faster shutter and less motion blur as neither are stabilized. Also, to get 1:1 with the 30, you have to be an inch (25mm) from the subject. The 50 let's you be about 6 inches away - this makes shooting much easier to frame. The 50 is my best lens - worth the higher cost. By the way, I think both are flat - looks that way in my photos.

Q: 7. Is this lens manual focus by wire lens, like fujifilm lenses, or is it a true manual focus, like zeiss lenses on canon body ? Thank you. Andrei

A: Focus by wire. I also own Zeiss manual focus lenses for canon and this is not at all similar in feel or function.

Q: 8. Anybody know if the lenses in the B&H stock have the newest firmware?

A: Our stock is updated with the latest firmware.

Q: 9. If I use this on my Sony Fs700 will it be cropped since the Fs700 is a super 35? I'm debating on buying it but not sure about its ability to perform in terms of video.

A: There shouldnt be vignetting, no. Super 35 is roughly the same size as APS-C.

Q: 10. How well does the auto focus work? Does the auto tracking function w/ this lens like it does w/ the kit lens? I'd be using it on the a6000 for shooting action sports (mountain biking) as well as landscapes.

A: Hi. The auto focus works very well and fast but I don't think you will like it for video because it is too loud. I've used it for landscape and I think it's pretty good for this.

Wow, this is a magical little lens! Very sharp, little distortion, and a wonderful wide view for interiors and expansive landscapes.

I was unsure which to go with as there are lots of choices. The Fuji 10-24 really had my eye, but f/4 does serve my needs. I've used Zeiss for MANY years and know the quality of their optics. I was concerned with possible color differences between the two manufactures. Optically this lens is superb edge to edge, great contrasts and color and focuses fast on my X Pro 2. The only con for me is that for $699 (on sale), this should have a metal lens hood. The build quality is very good as well. I've been shooting mirrorless now for three wedding seasons and I'm still getting use to how light these little gems are. I'm forcing myself to shoot more wide angle just to switch things up a bit. This is another wonderful tool that is going to get a lot of use!

I love this lens. I am by no means an amazing photographer. I understand some basics and play in aperture mode and with various settings, but to be honest a lot of my photos are on SCN mode in landscape or automatic. I know, don't tell anyone! I am really using my Sony Nex7 like a point and shoot. There is a clear difference between the Sony lenses and the two Zeiss lenses I have (this one and the 24/1.8). These lenses just give beautiful, crisp views. Really, really beautiful views, angles, colors. I am very happy with this lens.

For those of you considering the Sony 10-18mm and the zeiss 12mm, go with the zeiss you won't be disappointed. Took this lense to my trip to Rome and Florence with my Sony a6000 and I had no problem capturing the beautiful architecture and landscapes of Italy. I was hesitant at first to pull the trigger, but just remember that picture or image you want to capture is well worth the price of the memory you'll be keeping and capturing with the clarity of this lense.

A joy to use and superb results. Solid build quality. Zeiss optics render crisp color and sharp details. Optically corrected with very low distortion. Far better than the Fuji 8-16mm which shows massive distortion requiring destructive digital correction in camera or in post process.
