Q: 1. Is the removable lens foot interchangeable with the lens foot for tho 2.8 70-200 GM? I ask because I own the 70-200 which I use with a RRS LENS FOOT ON MY GIMBAL HEAD. Will the same RRS lens foot fit the 100-400?

A: Ignore the Sony Expert. The Really Right Stuff footer is awesome. You really have to use a gimbal or Im using my 2-d pano plates as a poor mans gimbal (which actually work really well). But in either case you want the Arca-Swiss style (isosceles trapezoid) clamp and the RRS plate does an admirable job of accomplishing that. Even with any decent ball head you still want the RRS clamp. Sony expert - why are you saying what you are saying? Have you ever used the equipment in question?

Q: 2. Is the lens foot the same dimensionally as the lens foot for the 80-200 GM 2.8 ? Is it ARCA compatible?

A: Really Right Stuff makes a nice replacement foot that is specific to this lens and is ARCA, or you can add an ARCA plate to this one.

Q: 3. Did any owner have this issue that the Min. Aperture of this lens is f32 to 40 but I tested with a7R3 I got photos up to f22 only for all focal lengths? Your feedback is truly appreciated.

A: Hmm, our store models of the A7RIII and 100-400 were able to go to f/32 and EXIF data also reads the same thing. I'd recommend chatting with us over our new video live-chat function and let's see if we can figure this out together!

Q: 6. If I use the 100-400 lens on my a7rii in APS-C mode, will adding a teleconverter take me up to 800mm? And will the image be decent?

A: A 2x will, but I lost the continuous auto focus. The 1.4x will allow the continuous autofocus to work, but is seems a bit slower. The 2x will reach 800mm and the 1.4x will take you up to 540mm. Obviously the teleconverters decrease light to the sensor, as does working the lens to its greatest magnification, but with enough light, the images are excellent. The camera can manage the ISO to get good shots even in lower light environments.

Q: 7. Does the specified weight (1395g) include the tripod foot?

A: No, that weight is without the foot. Its 52oz with the foot.

I paired this with a Sony A7R IVA. I expected I might have to stop it down to f/8 or so to get full clarity. But I don't see any difference in sharpness. It's very sharp all the time. And this is with the included UV filter. 5

Ive been wanting this lens for a couple years but i kept not buying it because its so expensive. And being retired money is not easy to come by. Im 75 years old now so it was really a want instead of a need. So i just want to let others know that this lens is awesome and a definite keeper. Wish i could have bought it sooner. I have a Sony telephoto 70 to 200 f4. But found it just didn't have the reach i wanted a lot of the time. I read the reviews of others trying different brands and they didn't seem satisfied so thats why i got the Sony….its focus is amazing and I'm totally satisfied. 5

So far I have been absolutely pleased with the results using this fantastic lens. It is fast, light and absolutely brilliant edge to edge. I will most certainly be using this now as my go to lens outdoors. 5

I shot Canon for a number of years and owned the Canon version of this lens. I was never amazed with the performance of the lens. I made the switch to Sony in 2021 and thought I would give their version of the 100-400 a try. I'm so happy that I did. The lens is super sharp, focuses quickly, and has turned into my favorite lens for hummingbirds. It's ability to focus up very close to subjects is a big bonus as well. The lens isn't heavy and doesn't take up much room in the camera bag. It's great for landscape shots as well. If you are in the market and looking for a high quality zoom... give the Sony 100-400 a try, it's great! 5

I’ve had this lens for about 3 years, first on the A7R4 and now on the A7R5. When I shoot bird photography I have a problem using a tripod/monopod so I hand hold. I also have the the 200-600 but found it’s too heavy and I can’t move fast enough for flying birds. To get extra reach I use the built in crop, so 400 becomes 600. I’m ok with 24MP instead of 61. I haven’t tried a teleconverter on it. 5

This lens has been a great tool for my photography. I mostly do landscape and nature, it works great for both. Very clear all the way out to 400, not heavy and seems to be well built which is what I need for backpacking in the backcountry. I highly recommend it for anyone who is serious about quality photos. 5

I bought this lenses as the 2-600mm became too heavy for my injured shoulder. Although I have been totally satisfied using my 70-200mm with the 2X TC, the added reach combined with great autofocus, sharpness and lighter weight make this lens my "go to" for birds. 5
