Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Can two be used in a PC for greater performance?
A: The Blackmagic Design Fairlight PCIe Audio Accelerator maximizes the performance capabilities of Fairlight and does not require a redundant card for added benefit. This card could be paired with the Blackmagic Design Fairlight PCIe Audio MADI Upgrade (BH #BLFPCIEAMU) for expanded MADI I/O connectivity if required: https://bhpho.to/3tpheLO
Q: 2. Do I need the Fairlight HDMI Monitor Interface to use a computer monitor?
A: No the Blackmagic Design Fairlight Desktop Console USB Control Surface already has an HDMI output to add a monitor.
Q: 3. Is this backwards compatible with USB 3.0 (USB A)?
A: Yes, that should work.
Q: 4. Where can I watch a tutorial on this Blackmagic Design Fairlight Console Audio Editor?
A: As of today, Blackmagic Design hasn't released any tutorial videos for the Fairlight Console Audio Editor.
Q: 5. Does this control surface only work with Resolve? Or can I use this with Final Cut?
A: The Blackmagic Design Fairlight Desktop Audio Editor is listed only for DaVinci Resolve.
Q: 6. Will it work with the ATEM video switchers and software as well in live video production?
A: The Blackmagic Design Fairlight Desktop Console USB Control Surface is meant for post-production use with Davinci's Fairlight software. As it is a USB control surface it could potentially be used with other software, but would depend on the compatibility and control mapping capabilities of the software.
Q: 7. I see there are mini switches on this, what numbers to do you have on?
A: Hi Maria -Assuming that you want Analog audio out, leave all the DIP switches off. If you want digital audio out (AES) the switch positions are silkscreened on the unit. Just a note: Some Blackmagic mini converters use one switch for processing on or off which you'll need in the on position for the unit to work. This doesn't apply to this one (SDI to Audio) but to some of the others available in this product line.
Q: 8. Does this product connect with other consoles? For example, can you connect to the XR 18, LV1 system?
A: No. This is Fairlight and Resolve only.
Q: 9. Will this controller work with ProTools?
A: No, the Blackmagic Design Fairlight Desktop Console USB Control Surface is not compatible for use with Pro Tools or any software other than Resolve Fairlight.
Q: 10. Does this work with the Atem switchers. If it doesn't, what audio hardware would work with the ATEM's? so i don't have to use software.
A: As Blackmagic Design has written, The Blackmagic Design Fairlight Console Channel Fader Modular Control Surface, is only for use with Fairlight Consoles. An audio mixer control suface is supported as a MIDI device to communicate with an ATEM, when using the Mackie Control commands.
