Building on the success of the well-regarded CP.2 lenses, ZEISS's CP.3 Compact Prime Lenses offer the same full-frame sensor coverage and classic ZEISS look in an updated form factor and with improved mechanics and lens coatings. This 100mm Compact Prime lens is derived from the same classic optical formula as the preceding CP.2 variant and shares the same physical length as the 135mm CP.3 lens while maintaining identical focus and iris gear positioning with the entire set of CP.3 lenses, relative to the mount. All CP.3 lenses also share the same 95mm front diameter. Similar physical attributes across the lens line makes fitting lens accessories such as matte boxes, follow focuses, lens supports, and lens control motors easier and less time consuming.

Another feature handed down from the preceding CP.2 lenses is the interchangeable mounts. This lens comes with a Nikon F mount installed. Though, if you wish to fit your CP.3 lens to a different camera, the lens mount can be swapped by the user for a separately available mount of a different kind. If you like the bokeh in your images to be round, even after stopping down, you will be pleased to know that the 14-bladed iris, made famous by the CP.2 lenses, has been retained.

Note: While the CP.3 lenses are designed for a degree of user-serviceability regarding the mount, for ideal performance and calibration, B&H recommends that mount swaps and other lens adjustments be done by a trained lens technician at a service center.

Zeiss lenses are known for their clean and crisp image rendering. The CP.3 series of lenses is no different. This CP.3 lens will accurately color-match to other Zeiss cinema lenses inside and out of the CP.3 range. The CP.3 lenses feature improved lens coatings and anti-reflection masking over the CP.2 range for increased contrast and reduced flare, important for capturing content with the intent of an HDR-format release.

For enhanced ergonomics over the previous-generation CP.2 lenses, the CP.3 lens barrel has been reshaped to be more similar to the renowned Zeiss Ultra Prime lenses. This new shape is easier to handle, and takes up less physical space than the original Compact Prime design. An even weight distribution ensures that these lenses will be at home handheld, locked down on a tripod, or flown on a Steadicam or motorized gimbal.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this lens vignette on an Alexa Mini shooting in 4K or open gate mode?

A: Zeiss 21-100mm T2.9-3.9 Lightweight Zoom LWZ.3 Lens creates the standard ANSI S35 image circle of 31.1mm. The image circle of and ARRI Alexa Mini is 33.59mm. So unfortunately this lens will not cover that sensor. You will need a full frame lens in order to do this.

Q: 2. Does this lens have filter threads, and if so, what is the diameter?

A: This lens does not have a filter thread. However it does have a 114mm front lens diameter, which is common for use with matte boxes.

Q: 3. Hello. I have a Sony FS5 and a APS-C sized Canon DSLR and want to be able to use this lens for both cameras. I have an EF to E-mount Speedbooster adapter to use EF glass with the FS5. If I attach the EF version of this glass using the speesbooster will I get vignetting at wide focal lengths?

A: This lens covers an APS-S or Super 35mm Sensor. If you used it with a Speedbooster, you will see some vignetting. You really would want to use this lens with a standard adapter. Zeiss also happens to offer an Interchangeable Mount Set for this lens, B&H # ZE21100IMSE. You would be able to change it between a EF and E-Mount with this kit.https://bhpho.to/2AcTQDV

Q: 4. Does it have a 1/4 -20 thread on the bottom for a lens support?

A: The ZEISS Light Weight Zoom features a 3/8 support collar for lens support.

Q: 5. Is there a servo available with this Zeiss lens?

A: A servo controller is not available for the ZEISS Lightweight Zoom LWZ.3.

Q: 6. Are these Meike FF- Prime Cine 24mm design for Canon R5?

A: The Meike 24mm T2.1 FF-Prime Cine Lens (RF-Mount) is compatible with the Canon R5.

Q: 7. At what T stop does the lens start to go down in exposure?

A: On the ZEISS LWZ.3 zoom lens, the aperture ramping is linear from 21mm - 100mm, meaning as you rack the zoom at wide open aperture, the light transmission changes from T2.9 - T3.9 in continuous, even steps.

Q: 8. How are these compared to the Rokinon Xeen?

A: Cine lenses such as the Schneider Xenon and Rokinon Xeen share the attributes that are so needed in prime lens sets for movie production. Principally these are consistent physical size and consistent image quality. Inconsistent size slows down production and inconsistent image quality slows down post-production with a possible affect of the viewing experience. What differentiates the two brands essentially is that the Xeens are good quality while the Xenons are even better. If the budget is limited, go with the Xeens confident that you will get good results. If the budget is more generous, go with the Xenons. What you will get is superb design, build and image quality that you can feel and see. The Xenons will last for years in hard, 18 hour a day movie production.

Q: 9. is there a user manual ?

A: No, we do not have a manual available for how to install the ZEISS Interchangeable Lens Mount for CP.3 21mm T2.9, 25/28/35mm T2.1 (ARRI PL), but ZEISS does have tutorials online.

Q: 10. Can this lens be used with extension tubes to further reduce the minimum focusing distance? Id like to use this lens for product video, but would like the ability to bring the lens in a little closer to the subject.

A: We are not aware of an extension tube that would work for this product and shorten the minimum focusing distance. Instead you may want to look at a high quality Macro Lens, such as the ZEISS Milvus 100mm f/2M ZE Macro Lens for Canon EF B&H # ZE1002MZE. https://bhpho.to/2DkfxFM

I have the 24mm and the 50mm FF primes now and love them. They are my first cine primes I've invested in. There standard form factor fits my camera build and mat box, which previously was for L series auto fucus lenses.

This lens is an excellent entry into the world of cinematic filming. Great reproduction of color. Focus takes a little getting used to with the amount of focal range. Overall great lens!

I bought the 35mm,50mm and 85mm lens from the Meike Full Frame Line and I have to say I am very impressed. The body has a good build quality, and the image has what I I feel is an appropriate amount sharpness and contrast.

I used these lenses on a feature film in September, and the lenses did everything I needed them too.

I frequently use these lenses on a Red Komodo and a Black Magic Pocket 4k, and occasionally on other camera systems and I have been happy with the image they produce on every camera sensor I have put them on.

The 50mm is a very good lense, nice and weighted, smooth focus can get pretty stiff in cold temperatures, give a nice warm image great boca and love the colours makes it quick and east to read. I don't know why the 24mm cost more thou.

I really love this lens. It just stays on the Ursa permanently. Many great directors use the 50mm as a standard (I'm thinking of Ozu), and I've personally always found the 50mm the most versatile focal length. And this lens is superb. I used the Rokinon lenses before this, which I appreciated, but this lens has more character. I really like the long throw, the build quality, and just the creamy look of this lens.

I've used ROKINON lenses which were quite above average. The Sirui anamorphic lens was even better. I just finished my first feature using the Sirui. Now that I just used this Meike FF on my Bmpcc4k for my trailer.... I am just blown away by the depth of field, bokeh and color depth of this lens. The quality, the weight, the build quality is on par to a much more expensive cine lens. This is the range of a 5k plus cine lens. I'm planning on buying the other focal lengths as well

It does its job. Cool cine lens that you can use on your Canin R Series with an nd adapter. Did a music video with it a couple of days ago and came out great!

This is a perfect step up from photo lenses into Cine lenses. If your wondering if you will see a difference between a set of Sigma Art glass and this... You will! I personally think the falloff and flaring on these lenses are perfect for the Modern/vintage blend with a slightly warmer tone then DZO Primes I find these to be a little more welcoming to skin tones.

If you're wondering if this is worth the price tag. I'd say so!

I have all 3 of the available PL mount versions of these lenses. I used on 2 proffesional shoots and WOW WOW WOW - I still cant get over the IQ for the price but with only 1 gripe---lets get out of way-- (no focus marks on AC side) not a big deal using FF on op side typically or remote FF if I have an AC so its not really an issue) If you are looking here you like consider the DZO Vespid line. TRUE they have a full set. However they have a very vintage look with oval bokeh and bad CA(on a few focal lengths) Those are smaller lighter and MARGNIALLY sharper true) however these lens have very little CA very little if any breathing depending on FL- propper full 330 rotation on focus, they are bigger but still small- However dont look SILLY on my RED like the Vespids do. I cant say this enough MEIKE hit a homerun here and I have ZERO regrets. Just wish the whole set was already available (24mm coming end of NOV 21) ---you cant go wrong here.
