The MX-LMount from Sound Devices is a spare battery sled intended for use with the MixPre-3 and MixPre-6 audio interfaces, providing an LMount interface. It is also compatible with the Sound Devices MixPre II field recorders. It can house two hot-swappable Sony L-series type lithium-ion batteries. It also works with the MixPre-10T.

A: Yes it is.

Q: 2. Are we able to use 8 iPower rechargeable lipo batteries with this sled?

A: It is not recommended to use rechargeable lithium batteries with a Mixpre series recorder. Sound Device does recommend using 1.5v non-rechargeable lithium batteries, or higher powered NiMH batteries such as B&H # PAKJ17KHCA4A.

Q: 3. Does this work as well with the MixPre-3 II?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 4. What is the difference between this one and the cheaper $65 option?

A: Hi Jared. The MX-LMOUNT holds 2 NPF batteries, and the MX-LM1 only holds 1 NPF. Battery orientation is parallel to the chassis for the MX-LM1, but perpendicular for the MX-LMOUNT.

I'm trying to use this MX-LMount battery sled on the MixPre-10 II and getting flashing red ring LEDs on all tracks when powering it on, with either a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F970 batteries attached, or a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F570 batteries attached. MixPre-10 II already has L-Mount selected as battery type in the MixPre-10 II's power menu. No other batteries/power sources are connected. I'm using an approved SD card that has been formatted in the MixPre-10 II. Any idea what could be causing this issue?

Q: 6. Is this battery sled made of metal? From the reviews of the earlier, double L battery mount from Sound Devices, I’d be hesitant to shell out almost three times more money for this one if it is still made of plastic.

A: Thank you for asking. This device is made of plastic, but its form factor is considerably different than that of the MX-LMOUNT.

Q: 7. Any problem of loose contact pin in this model as official Sound Device product? ( as it seems white labeled Hawkwood SD2, which has some people hase solder burning complaints )

A: I have heard no complaints on the build quality of this sled. Sound Devices makes exceptionally high quality equipment.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the newer versions of the Mix Pre series? I have one, it works well with the Mix Pre 3 v1 but doesn't seem to seat correctly on my Mix Pre 6 II

An absurd price for a bit of molded plastic with no electronics at all, but it's the price to pay to play the Mixpre game, and I DO love that game. Hopefully it will be durable enough to justify the price, and useful enough to counteract the odd form factor it gives the Mixpre. 5

Fits good with the Orca 280 bag and the MixPre 10 II. Glad I tried this over more expensive options to power it. 5

I mount my MixPre6 underneath a camcorder, so there is no clearance to use the upper battery compartment with my 8500 mAh batteries (the battery would get in the way of the camera body). However, I really only need 1 L-type battery as it lasts and lasts. So I just use the lower compartment on the MX-LMount. Seems a bit high-priced for a piece of plastic, but all Sound Devices accessories are costly. That being said, I figure it is a one-time expense that makes life WAY easier as there are no hanging cables nor external battery pack, everything is self-contained on the MixPre itself - I love a low-profile solution. Everything Sound Devices produces is well-made, so no argument here about price. 5

It's a fine product and I've had no issues. The price is a bit steep for what it is, but nothing can be done about that. It fits in tightly but it's very secure and I don't see any future complications arising. I'd purchase it again...it's really a must have the Mix Pre. 5

This is a great way to extend the record time for my MixPre 10 II. When powering just the unit, I was able to get 7-8 hours of continuous run time! 5

I shouldn’t review it yet because I’ve yet to actually stick it on the device. What I did do was slide in two hefty NP-F970 batteries and was pleasantly surprised with the fit. While it’s not obvious, there’s a spring-loaded latch for each sled that locks the battery in place. Besides that, for what is essentially an expensive piece of plastic, I’m pretty happy with the build quality and functionality so far. If I have any problems, I’ll try to update this or post another review online as Hexspa. Happy recording. 5

It works as advertised. My SONY and Sound devices batteries slip-in and out with no issues. I do hot swapping and try not to take the sled off. 5
