Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is it made in japan or taiwan?

A: According to the information in our system provided to us by Canon, the SL1 is manufactured in Taiwan.

Q: 2. is this camera waterproof?

A: No it is not.

Q: 3. After I take a picture, I get nothing on the screen. What do I do?

A: This could be caused by a number of things. If you contact the B&H Photo department through Chat or photo@bhphoto.com, someone can help diagnose the problem.

Q: 4. Hi, i own the 100d and i have a serious question about it. I don't seem to find any budget tier external flash that is compatible with my dslr. The only ones i found that are compatible are the speedlite ex' but i can't afford them. Is there any good external ttl flash that is compatible with my dslr ?

A: Try google for YONGNU? I'm sorry for the miss spelled word but try searching for it anyway. They are a third party maker in Japan or China. They work great with any camera system and the best thing is that with a controller you can dial up and down the power from your camera. We use up to 4 at a time.

Q: 5. is the LCD screen on the back touchscreen only or can you turn off the touchscreen?

A: You can turn it on and off.

Q: 6. is there a warrantee?

A: Included is a Limited 1-year Warranty from Canon.

Q: 7. How does the EOS Rebel compare with EOS Rebel sxi?

A: The Rebel SL1 being a few generations newer than the XSi is a better camera and has many updated features. The SL1 has a larger pixel count (18mp vs 12mp in the XSi), it has a much higher ISO rating for low light and high speed subjects (25,600 vs 1,600 in the XSi). The Sl1 incorporates 1080p HD video recording vs no video capability in the XSi. The SL1 has an updated processor and sensor, and also features a touch-screen LCD.

Q: 8. the Canon SL1 does not have micro AF adjustment. can this become a problem for getting an image in focus?

A: Entry level DSLR cameras do not typically have autofocus micro-adjustment as a feature. In most instances, autofocus micro-adjustment is not needed for recreational usage, as most cameras/lenses are built to work within certain tolerances to ensure maximum compatibility. However, if you have a Canon lens that exhibits noticeable strong front/back-focusing issues, then you may contact the Canon USA to send the camera and lens in to be calibrated with one another. Sigma's new Global Vision lenses offer the Sigma USB Dock for Canon Lenses for purchase to calibrate focus when using Sigma lenses designed for the Canon EF lens mount. Otherwise, your options would be to contact the manufacturer for assistance with your lens, or if the lens was purchased from B&H and you are unhappy with the lens, you would have 30 days to return the lens for an exchange or a refund under our 30-Day Return Policy.

Q: 9. is this camera too small to work well with a 18-200mm lens?

A: The Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens is fully compatible for use with the Canon EOS Digital Rebel SL1 DSLR Camera, regardless to the camera's or lens' size. All Canon EF and EF-S lenses manufactured since 1993 are compatible for use with the Canon EOS Digital Rebel SL1 DSLR Camera.

Q: 10. I've seen this as an SLR. Are there two- one DSLR and the other SLR?

A: You are likely seeing different places using different terminology: the SL1 is a Digital SLR (DSLR).

They say that the best camera is the one you carry with you. This is a small camera but great for bring with you. Pick a lens that will make it bulky. I have 2 Canon Eos 5D MKIII and this one is for my wife. She loves it. I would use it too - if it was not for work. For the price of the body, you can't go wrong.

I am using this great Canon SL1 DSLR to learn photography. Having used a Canon G9 for over 5 years I wanted a camera whose lens I could change and whose settings I could manipulate to get that perfect shot. The Canon SL1 meets that criteria and more. The camera is small, portable, and light weight. Most importantly, it takes a great photograph. I would high recommend it.

This is my first DSLR camera. I was torn between the Canon T5i, Sony Alpha A58 and this Canon SL1. I've had it for only a few weeks but so far so good. The kit lens that came with it is a good all around lens. Pictures are nice and clear. The camera is easy to use and the menus are straight forward. The camera is pretty light but I can't say thats a bad thing. Overall, I've been very satisfied with this camera. I would recommend this camera to any one looking to get into the photography hobby.

This camera replaces my Cannon AE-1 Programmable which I have owned for 30 years and it appears Cannon has done it again with another GREAT product.

I am new to the DSLR cameras and bought this camera to take pictures at sporting events and family photos. This camera is very easy to use, did not read the manual except on how to get the battery in. Takes great pictures at baseball games and soccer games. Bought a package deal and was taking pictures that afternoon at the game. great deal at B & H.

So far I have taken the SL1 out a few times. It is noticeably smaller than other cameras in its class but for me this was not an issue as I have not consistently handled other DSLR's. The picture quality is as great as I had anticipated. Prior to purchasing this camera I had spent time in educating myself of the different manual settings. I highly recommend doing this so you can get the most out of your purchase. The camera does shoot well in auto for most quick shots, but I have achieved much higher quality images in manual in the short time that I have owned this camera.Bottom line, you will not be disappointed if you purchase the SL1. In my opinion it is a great entry level camera at a reasonable price. The quality and feel of the camera is not an issue as I had worried purchasing this smaller frame DSLR.

I wanted to reduce the weight and bulk I carry on photo outings, to birthday parties, grandkids' softball games, live stage performances, and generally all the time. My requirements were fairly minimal otherwise. Originally, I was looking to mirrorless, but Canon hasn't figured out that even mirrorless cameras need eye level viewfinders, so the EOS-M was out. What a surprise! This camera is fantastic. I have the original digital Rebel, 20D, 40D, 5DMk2 and 7D to compare to, so I have a fair idea what Canon DSLRs can do. This is 90%, and that's more than enough. I've used it on several outings now with a Sigma 18-200, Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon 35mm F2, Canon 85mm 1.8, Canon 100-400, Canon 70-200 F2.8, Canon 300mm F2.8, Canon 500mm F4, and my great surprise lens--the Sigma 8-16mm ultrawide. No disappointments with any of them. The camera has a few less features than the 7D, including no micro-adjust AF. It also is slow in continuous shooting, but I never really did that anyway (you know...those annoying people at bird sanctuaries shooting 50 frames at a time.) One suggestion for anyone who might shoot video with this camera: Get the kit with the STM lens. Even with my external microphone and vibration-isolating holder, I pick up AF noise shooting video.
