The 60" White with Removable Black/Silver ParaSail Parabolic Umbrella from Angler has a wing-like, rounded rectangular shape that makes it a unique addition to the light-shapers available to spark and give voice to the photographer's creative expression. Especially useful in home studios, tight spaces or rooms with low ceilings, the ParaSail can be used horizontally for a wrap-around quality of light with maximum space-saving. Used vertically, the modifier has an initial wrap-around look with a dramatic fall-off, especially when feathered, that facilitates creation of lighting ratios. The versatile ParaSail also offers contrast alternatives; the black/silver backing adds punch and crispness to the output and is slightly softened by the white interior. Take off the black/silver backing for a soft neutral look.

Besides novel functioning, the ParaSail is also structurally sound - its fiberglass ribs create a uniform surface for maximum reflectance and the 8mm solid aluminum shaft provides strong support and holds flexing to a minimum. Unique, versatile and sturdy construction backed with numerous light quality options make the ParaSail a creative and practical choice for the savvy photographer.

The true parabolic shape has a wing-like rounded rectangular appearance that is useful for home studios, rooms with low-ceilings or space-challenged situations, especially when used in the horizontal mode. The large reflective surface offers maximum coverage with an impressive degree of directional control.

Used vertically the ParaSail offers an initial wrap around quality followed by a dramatic fall-off especially when feathered - useful for creating light ratios. Used horizontally, the ParaSail provides maximum wrap-around light coverage.

Fiberglass ribs and rods offer greater flexibility and resist the tendency to bend like aluminum ribbed umbrellas. The ribs create a more uniform shape for greater reflectance.

White interior with removable black/silver backing provides a dual purpose to this modifier. When used with the black/silver backing the ParaSail offers a slightly punchy quality with maximum output, while the white fabric softens the contrast. Used alone without the silver backing, the white interior produces a soft, neutral effect.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can i use this with speedlites?

A: The Angler ParaSail Parabolic Umbrella (White with Removable Black/Silver, 60") BH #ANPAUB60BSW can be used with a speedlight. You will need a stand adapter like this one BH #IMDUBAS.

Q: 2. Do you think the SB-700 is enough flash for this umbrella?

A: I have this umbrella and an SB-700 and I use it regularly as a main light in a small studio. For this it works just fine, If you want to light a large space or a large group of people you might need to have two 700 in the umbrella or a studio light.

Q: 3. Does this umbrella come with a stand or is it just the umbrella its self?

A: Just the umbrella; no stand.

Q: 4. If I have a 10x12 studio space, do I need to get the 60 inch or can I just get the 45 inch umbrella?

A: Subject size and hard vs. soft lighting style is going to be a bigger consideration than studio size. If you are considering shooting full length portraits, the smaller the modifier, the farther away from the subject you will have to be to achieve full coverage. As you move the modifier further from the subject, the harder your shadows become. If you want soft shadows, you want a larger modifier, positioned closer to your subject.

Q: 5. What size is the umbrella when packed? Particularly interested in the height.

A: 44-inches tall. 3.5-inches wide

Q: 6. What is the exact diameter of the shaft?

A: The shaft diameter is 8mm.

Q: 7. Do the materials stand up to a hot moonlight?

A: This umbrella is not heat rated.

Q: 8. When the 45 umbrella is in horizontal what will be the size in height?

A: i have the 60 inch and when horizontal, the other dimension is 40 inches

Q: 9. Is there any noticeable color shift?

A: No, the color is clean, no color bias.

Q: 10. For the 60", am I able to purchase the Removable Black/Silver Backing separately? Mine was slightly punctured?

A: This can be had from the Mfg. Customer Support (212) 594-2120 or online thttps://www.gradusgroup.com/contact-us

45" Angler umbrella works well in my camera room with low ceilings.

Interesting design. Get a large umbrella with a smaller foot print.

A parabolic umbrella is fantastic when you are only using 1 light source. I have tried using full size umbrellas in a small studio, but I find they are too big and very difficult, but the Angler Para-Sail Parabolic Umbrella White with Removable Black/Silver really acts big in small places and is so simple to move around because of the shape. The Angler Para-Sail price is less than a third of what I paid for other reflector umbrellas. So if you have a restricted sized space, the Angler Para-Sail parabolic umbrella will be a cost effective solution for producing soft and beautiful light without sacrifice..... Pros Great soft light Easy to open set up and to position Key is the even light it produces in small or large area Worked great in a smaller garage/studio and at the park Quality well built product to last for years Cons The shape outside made the shadows a bit more challenging Bottom line: I loved both 45 60 units. They were not as difficult as working with the big full size umbrella and easier to control and ended up with great finished images.

I have a short ceiling in our home office studio which was inspiration to buy this umbrella in the first place. I've also been using it to light photo booths for local events while also using the 60 version opposite the 88 for a bit more even lighting. It's worked out very good. No regrets on the purchase.

Amazing, just as they said it would be. I shoot casting headshots and am always after a soft main light to shoot directly above the camera and being in tight spaces its hard to get an octobox or big softbox above and still be able to shoot. This is an incredibly large light source and although they say its parabolic, the white material inside basically turns this into a giant soft light. Worth every cent and super portable, quality material. The carry bag has a hole in it from where the pointy end of the umbrella has gone through, thats the only problem, but I dont plan on using it tbh.

I primarily use this light for a natural looking light, when I am shooting indoors with little natural light, and no clean surfaces to bounce flash off.

Originally, I doubted that the shape of this umbrella would be of much added value, but boy was I wrong. When I am using this on a small light stand with a speedlight or ad300pro, I can whip this thing around in tight spaces without getting hung up on ceiling fixtures to keep up with dynamic sessions like spontaneous children. If you can relate to these situations, this umbrella is a cool, affordable experiment for you to try.

Also, because the backing on this white umbrella is silver, I find this to be a very efficient umbrella, which allows me to use smaller lights where I would otherwise have to grab heavier strobes and stands, that require a less flexible shooting style.

The unique shape is very versatile for creating interesting lighting solutions, or when working in a tight space where a traditional umbrella would hit the ceiling.

I have almost every light modifier made. Lots of wasted cash, but live and learn right? I just got this today, I was able to raise my Profoto B1's about a foot higher than when using a 42" round umbrella in a room with an 8' ceiling.

Very pleased with the design. I'm curious about the colour temperature of the fabric though. They look kind of yellowish compared to my umbrellas. I colour-balance using a passport, so won't be an issue in the end. Great product!
