The A6500 can be really small for some people and the grip gives it a bigger footprint without being overly bulky. You do have to remove the grip to reach the SD card, which inside the camera's battery compartment. Not the greatest design but not a deal-breaker to me. The grip requires that you plug it into the camera - just so you know that as well - that there is a corded connection between the grip and the camera. 5
