Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do we know yet if the lens hood on this lens is removable? I've only seen promotional photos of the lens with the hood on. If it's not removable, it may be a challenge to include filters, which is one of the main reasons I held off purchasing the Panasonic wide angle lens, as I use filters quite often.

A: The Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 has a built in lens hood, so will not have a filter thread. At this time, using filters with this lens is not an option. Perhaps there will be filter holders designed for the lens after its release, but no manufacturers have an option for the lens at this time.

Q: 2. Hi. Is this 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lens compatible with Olympus PT-EP13 underwater housing ?

A: The Olympus PT-EP13 housing as sold is not compatible with the 7-14mm. Though, you might be able to get a third party dome port. I would suggest contacting our Underwater Department directly via email: uw@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a

Q: 3. Is this fisheye or rectilinear?

A: It is rectilinear. It does have some mild distortion, but it is easily corrected in post.

Q: 4. How does this lens work with a Panasonic GH4? How does it compare to the Panasonic 7-14?

A: This is a standard MFT mount so will work fine with the GH4. the Zuiko 7-14 is a fabulous lens! Super sharp corner to corner, fast f 2.8. I'm loving it. I have not used the Panasonic 7-14 so I suggest you read Gordon Laing's reviews at Camerlabs about these two lenses for in-depth evaluation to help you decide.

Q: 5. Does this lens have built in image stabilization that can be used with the GH5's IBIS?

A: The Olympus 7-14mm f2.8 Pro does not have in-lens image stabilization. I have had it for a couple of weeks and used it already on two overseas trips. It's an extraordinary lens. I went into the B&H store in Manhattan to buy the lens in person. While there, I was able to mount both this lens and the Panasonic 7-14mm f4 on my own camera and take photos in the store. Both have excellent image quality and are absolutely rectilinear (i.e. straight lines appear straight, even at the edges of the frame and even at the widest end of the zoom range.) As many online reviewers have noted, the Panasonic lens has obvious purple fringing when used on Olympus cameras. This problem apparently does not affect Panasonic cameras. So if you're okay with losing one stop of light, the equivalent Panasonic lens is very good. It's also smaller, lighter and about $300 cheaper.

Q: 6. What is the best way to clean the ZERO coated lens such as this? Especially since a filter cannot be placed on it.

A: I called Olympus tech support. Any photographic lens cleaning solution can be used. Use a microfiber cloth and spray one corner of the cloth with cleaning solution. DO NOT spray the cleaning solution directly on the lens. Starting in the middle of the lens, rub the corner that has been wetted with the solution in a circular motion out toward the periphery of the lens. Repeat the motion with the dry portion of the microfiber cloth. Use a light touch with the cloth at all times to avoid trapping any debris against the lens and scoring it accidentally.I usually used a blower to puff some air on the lens to clean off as much dust and loosely adhered debris prior to using any cleaning solution. It may be that you won't need to use the cloth/cleaning solution at all.

Q: 7. is this 7-14 mm lens to heavy for my Olympus m5IIII am a bigger and need wide angle for selling boats n(interior shots need to be better than Olympus kit lens 14-150mm? I have compared weight and I am adding 10oz.... thank you.

A: This lens would not be too heavy to use with the OM-D E-M5 III.

Q: 8. It appears this lens will not accept filters. Is this true?

A: The Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 does not have a filter thread, so will not accept standard circular threaded filters. And, at this time there isnt a filter holder option for the lens.

Q: 9. How is this lens for night orastro photography?

A: Very good lens

Q: 10. Will this lens work perfectly with panasonic bodies? For example, the fn botton, pull down focus ring, auto focusing speed and image quality.

A: The Oly lens will certainly mount on the Panasonic camera and meter perfectly. The image quality depends on the sensor size and your ability to control the camera functions for best quality. I don't know if the bells and whistles of the Oly lens will work or not. I hate to let your local camera store be the local showroom for B&H, as many are these days, but possibly the salesman would help you try it on a body. (I wouldn't mention for an instant that you were going to purchase through mail-order in order to get B&H's superior return policy and rock-bottom prices--it always seems to antagonize the salesman).Frankly, my local camera store does not have as good a return/service policy as B&H, in addition to charging full MSRP for items...

For the price, this is a great deal and you can get some seriously good looking shots. The only downside is that the purple fringing can get noticeable, but it's easily fixed in Lightroom or some such. Great for portraits too with low aperture and high zoom, lots of depth of field.

At this reasonable price, i am totally satisfied with its quality. The lens body is plastic. However, you will get excellent result if you use it carefully.

Everyone knows about the famous Canon nifty fifty 50mm f/1.8 lens family: an absurdly cheap prime lens with great performance that every Canon shooter should buy to supplement the kit lens. After two days of shooting with this lens, I firmly believe that this is the perfect second lens for cheaply but very effectively enhancing the capabilities of your MFT camera. The only compromise Olympus made is the lack of image stabilization. I have a Panasonic G7 with the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens and the obvious natural pairing is a Panasonic 45-150mm with in-lens stabilization lens that sells around the $300 range. I don't like to over-spend on equipment and I'm often on a tight budget, so I decided to give this lens a try instead of saving for a couple of months to buy the Panasonic lens that's almost three times the price. It's plastic. Some dislike plastic lenses but I like it; it's a lot lighter. It's the same size as the 14-42mm lens with hood attached, so it fits well in my holster bag. It's very easy to use; the zoom control is smooth and the manual focus ring is sensitive and smooth. Shooting handheld at the maximum 150mm with arms outstretched can easily result in blurry images due to the lack of stabilization; for this reason, I was disappointed at first since my test photos weren't clear. Pulling my elbows to my sides or otherwise holding the camera differently to reduce arm and hand shake made a big difference in quality. This lens seems sharpest when you close the aperture to f/8 or smaller. With a little practice, I was able to take good photos with a reasonable amount of pixel-level detail even in poor conditions. Bottom line: if you need a long telephoto lens for your MFT body, can live without in-lens stabilization, and/or you're on a tight budget, you can't go wrong with this lens.

I purchased this because it was on sale and even if I paid full price I would be happy with it. It's not fast glass by any means but for daytime outdoor use (or with a flash) it's fantastic. As other people have posted it performs best when stopped down a bit but on the GH4 it looks better than my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 (EF mount, obviously a better lens but the mounts kill the quality at 150-200 I find) so if you have a m43 camera and want a super small/light telephoto lens for daytime outdoor use like landscapes I would suggest this one any day of the week.

I'm an amateur photographer who's been using the kit 14-42 mm lens for about a year. I was looking to expand my repertoire a bit and chose this lens. It's been great so far and I've enjoyed being able to try out some different styles of photography.

Our studio is just beginning and we really needed to add some focal length to our 4/3 kit, but a real affordable price. Our review process led us to this lens. We knew Olympus makes great lenses but for this price point we wasn't for sure it could be that good. To our delight the positive reviews are spot on. This lens packs a punch for this price point. We have paired it with the Panasonic G7 and the 40-150mm (80-300mm equivalent) makes a good pair with the 14-42 kit lens. It takes very good photos on both the short and long ends. Yes there is some softness in the corners on some shots but unless you are pixel peeping you are in good shape. I have found this easy to work with in post for any pictures it may effect. The lens does not have stabilization. So if you are using a body like we are with the G7 that doesn't employ it you will have to plan accordingly. If you plan you will be happy with your shots. Video quality has been great using a tripod. Haven't done enough hand held video yet to have a review, but I think it should be solid. Ok a few items that may bother people. It is made of plastic, that being said it feels solid. There are no lens hood to be found, as well as no case. For under 100 bucks I can't complain. So bottom line after a few weeks of testing/usage. This lens for the money is one of the best investments you will make for your 4/3 kit.

I purchased this lense with no real expectations for a $99 investment. I thought it would be a nice every day kinda OK thing. I was really happy when I started playing with it. I can stand across my living room, about 15 feet or so, take a picture of the text of a paperback and have the letters crystal clear. Pretty neat. Highly recommend it, very cool.

I needed a lens that would allow me to capture my granddaughter's gymnastics routines from across the gym. This fits the bill and then some. I can actually get personal close ups without photoshop! Can't wait to try it out in nature as well.
