I haven't had it long, but this camcorder is the best I've ever owned. It truly lives up to the Canon name and quality one would expect from a leader in the industry. If I had to list any concerns it would be that the menu system is a bit difficult for me to recall where things are, but that will smooth out with experience and use of the unit. Overall, I give this product a five star PLUS rating! Way to go Canon!!

I am upgrading from tape based cameras and the Canon HF M30, so there is somewhat of a learning curve for me. So far, I really love this camera and am sure I will continue to love it as I familiarize myself even more

Canon's XA20 is a wonderful and relatively inexpensive camcorder that is ideal for ENG and documentary filmmaking. It weighs 1 1/2 lbs, has all the bells and whistles of larger camcorders and records 1920/1080 p in AVCHD or MPEG4. The digital menus that have given way to manual controls are easy to access, clearly visible and easily respond to a tap of the finger on the LED screen. The lens is a zoom lens that opens to f=1.8. At f=4 various ND filters can be activated for shallow depth of focus. The image stabilization makes anybody a believer in handheld shooting. The gain is listed in dB with 16 dB being about equal to 800 ISO and a maximum of 24 dB. The WIFI access to the camera is remarkable both in allowing control of the camera from an iphone or ipad, and downloading files to a computer. While DSLRs have much larger sensors, the high quality MPEG4 (39 mbps) is more than adequate for TV and DVD, as long as cable providers keep transmitting at 1280/720. The low light performance is also quite impressive. 2 XLR inputs allow connection to external mics and the sound processing has a selection of equalizer settings for various rooms and sound categories. In 24 fps or (film mode) 9 cinema-look filters are available.

I purchased this for use by our local senior center. It has exceeded my expectations. There are choices of image format and several resolution choices. The 20X zoom is more than we need. The audio features are very strong. We generally use a tripod but the camera is easy to handhold if desired. It fits all our needs perfectly and gives quality results.

This product is light weight and great for hiking. The video quality is good, and I would absolutely buy this camcorder again.

I used these for a little while now for video editing, sound design, and mixing ambient sound. They are quite transparent for music, it's a bit unforgiving for certain tracks where the mix is hidden in bad speakers. Extremely clear. The 109db limited also adds piece of mind for field recording - looking forward to trying them for that.

I use this with an amaran COB 60x S Bi-Color LED. Clean output, don't need a lot of power to get the effects I want. The optics focus nicely, crisply, no color fringing. Really pleased so far.

Filming events.In small package big heart.Be careful in low light. You have to know how setup this camcorder. If you will just use auto setup, the picture will be in low light bright but you will have little bit grain, but if you will learn this camcorder, you can filming really good picture in low light. Do not use small light, is better use large light. I use 160 LED light and the picture look pretty good in classic wedding low light condition( I do not boosting chip over 12 dB, I use max 9 dB in extreme condition 12 ).Good color reproduction.The camera is small from factor, but can do big job.You can have very good sound if you use good microphone ( I use Sennheiser, Rhode and Panasonic ) if you would like good sound do not use internal microphone.This is camcorder, it's mean is not style picture camera. You can snap picture, but this tool is design to filming.You will need minimal 2 extra large batteries, BP-828.I use Canon batteries over 16 years and some of my batteries are over 12 years old and style good. ( if you will charge the battery after job the batterie will good long time).In conclusion when I open box I was very sceptic, BUT next the Camcorder really surprise me in good way.

I have been on the fence as to whether this would be helpful to my kit. It felt like it may be a little gimmicky and I'd only use it in rare circumstances. I've found it to be wildly useful and I find ways to use this in nearly every interview since my purchase. Very well built and the case is sturdy and well thought out. My only complaint is how hot it gets, but that's not a design flaw at all, I just need to remember to turn this light off first and let it cool down while I pack the rest of my kit.
