Q: 5. Can you make digital prints on this paper? Does it have a profile?

A: With coated papers (aka papers with sizing), the coating is the one that controls absorption of the ink and prevents bleeding and smearing. In some cases, you can indeed inkjet print on uncoated papers, but most manufacturers will not produce ICC profiles for them as it is not an intended use for them. In the case of this Hahnemuhle rag, it's highly likely that you will not get the best results printing on this with an inkjet printer unless you are able to control ink load. Even if you are able to prevent bleed, you will probably also see reduced contrast and saturation, as well as crushed blacks.

For the casual darkroom person this is a great paper. very consistent, EZ to work with reasonable price too. As I relearn my way around the darkroom after 40 years, this is just a lot better for most work than fiber based paper.

I have always loved Ilford's Satin paper, but I have been delighted with the Pearl as well!

The next generation of this series produces outstanding prints with deeper blacks and slightly wider dynamic range. I found it to be noticeably faster than version IV, but quite manageable after adjusting the exposure times. To my eye it appears very close to the glossy FB. I will not live long enough to test its archival permanence attributes so for those looking for that comfort the FB may remain the standard. However, for ease of use for those making prints for their own use this paper may be practically equivalent. I look forward to BH carrying the other sizes, which Ilford's web site says is available.

This paper is easy for beginners or pros to use. I teach Darkroom Photography at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, GA. I use it with the beginning classes. It's forgiving and adjustable for any type of negative they produce.

When I print on Ilford paper I am always amazed at the richness, the tonal range and the snap the prints have. I have used it for years and will continue to use Ilford paper.
