Tiffen 95mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I am considering the purchase of a Sigma 150-500mm lens for a Canon 7D. Is the thread on this filter compatible to the above-mentioned lens? Thanks.JH

A: No, it would not. The Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS uses 86mm filters, not 82mm filters. The Tiffen 86mm (Coarse Thread) Circular Polarizing Filter, B&H # TICP86C, would be the filter for your stated lens.

Q: 2. Is this worth it? I see others that are half the price. Please get back to me!

A: For comparisons, please email us at photo@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a so we can best assist you.

Q: 3. Can I use it with a 52 mm kit lens? How?

A: In general, yes, but i will not recommend it. You need to buy an adapter and usually the cost of 52mm filter will be less compared to the combined of the two, and you may not be able to fit a hood and quality of the image will suffer.

Q: 4. May the Canon the 52mm filter be used on an EF-M 55-200mm lens in conjunction with an et-54B hood?

A: Yes this will fit that lens and can be used with the lens hood on.

Q: 5. Is this cause vignetting with wide-angle lenses?

A: Depending on the focal length of your lens, this filter may cause vignette. You may want to look into a wide angle circular polarizer, such as the Tiffen 62mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter: http://bhpho.to/1qbv3r0

Q: 6. Is this compatible with the Parasonic G7 14-42mm lens?

A: That lens only requires a 46 mm filter: Tiffen 46mm Circular Polarizing Filter B&H # TICP46 MFR # 46CP

Q: 7. Will this filter fit for Sony E-mount 16-50mm Lens?

A: You chose well for indeed it will fit the Sony E-mount 16-50mm lens.

Q: 8. Will this fit a Sony Pl lens? specifically for the 35, 50, 85mm PL lens for the Sony PMW-F3. I have researched and hand measured and am still unsure which size is appropriate. any help is greatly appreciated!

A: The Sony Cine-Alta lenses do have a filter mounting screw. It is M 95mm, pitch 1.0 mm. (One note: this excludes the 20mm lens.) In other words, they take a 95mm filter and this 86mm will not fit them.

Q: 9. Why does this filter turn?

A: You would turn the ring on this circular polarizer in order to correct for any glare/reflections or to deepen the color in your image.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the Canon 25-105 lens? Does it being 58mm mean it can attach to any lens that has 58mm within its range?

A: The Canon 28-105mm lens will take a 58mm threaded filter, such as the 2188B001 Circular Polarizer. The size of 58mm refers to the size of the filter threads at the front end of a lens, so it will work with any lens that has a filter thread size of 58mm.

I use my Tiffen polarized filter almost all the time when I'm shooting outdoors. It's done amazing work keeping the glares and sun flares out of the way. I couldn't be happier with a Polarizing filter!

I have one of these filters from Tiffin for each of my lenses. If I'm going to be shooting outside, in daylight, I put them on before I leave the house. I've never had a problem with them, and they also provide some protection for the lens when I am out and about.

Tiffen makes good filters, and I have quite a few. They may not be high-end, but then they're not high-price. I think they hit a sweet spot of quality and value for the money.
