Vess NVR appliances reduce support and equipment costs because there is no separate RAID storage unit to manage, eliminating the need for a server, controller cards, external cables and a separate storage enclosure. Additionally, Vess NVR appliances reduce interoperability conflicts caused when integrating different hardware.

Vess NVR appliances are compatible with a range of IP cameras and VMS from vendors including Aimetis, Axxonsoft, CamIQ, CSVi, Digifort, Genetec, OnSSI, SeeTec, Sony and Milestone.

An SDK library is provided for VMS UI and management integration. Plus, Vess supports the Milestone VMS plug-in enabling it to be managed via the XProtect interface. Additionally, you can easily expand via iSCSI by adding Promise external storage.

A collection of unique features designed to provide a high level of service and overcome performance bottlenecks to allow Vess NVRs to handle a higher number of IP cameras.

Predictive Playback - utilizes idle recording times to monitor read patterns to predict where the next playback will be needed so the hard disk drives are not competing with the workload of the system.

Remote Active Service - proactively detects when the PSU, controllers, or HDDs are going into critical condition and automatically notifies Promise support so the customer can be contacted, spare parts can be sent out, or the unit can be powered up after an outage. All of these are vitally important in environments that cannot risk downtime.

Sequential Pattern Recording - eliminates heavy workloads caused by random write patterns by monitoring recording patterns, collecting data in the cache buffer and only writing data to the drive once a full stripe is ready. This creates a sequential recording pattern which offers smooth performance.

With just a few clicks of the Promise online planning tool, you can get the whole picture of what you need for your project, including the NVR and storage requirements, how to configure the servers and storage and see a topology of the interconnecting systems with the most popular and recommended settings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I plug two macbooks into this and edit off both of them at the same time from the two USB-C ports?

A: No, the SanDisk Professional G-RAID Shuttle 4 96TB 4-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array (4 x 24TB) can only be used with one computer at a time.

Q: 2. In an event of a drive failure. What can I use as a replacement?

A: SCOTT - I don't know. I've had it for a few months now - works great, super fast, but no failures yet so I haven't had to deal with that issue. Mike

Q: 3. Which SATA drives will we be getting? Brand?

A: Toshiba 3.5-Inch 3TB 7200 RPM SATA3/SATA 6.0 GB/s 64MB Hard Drive DT01ACA300

Q: 4. Do the Pegasus2 RAIDs internally support encryption, or do I need to reformat them with Apple's Disk Utility as Mac OS Extended (Jounaled, Encrypted) ?

A: The Pegasus2 R6 does not support hardware encryption. You would need to reformat with an encrypted filesystem as you suggested, or use a third party option.

Q: 5. Is this RAID a hardware or software based RAID?

A: hardware based raid within the unit, there is software to configure -- it has worked flawlessly for over a year

Q: 6. What is the read/write speed of this model running at RAID-0? I want to buy a working RAID running at RAID-0 and a backup RAID running at RAID-6.

A: Preconfigured in Raid 5 (w/Blackmagic speed test) I got 828 write and 834 read. Once in Raid 10 (and walked through by tech support leaving all settings, sector sizes etc. in default) the test revealed 589 write and 629 read. I read in one of the reviews here that someone got 1,200 overall in Raid 5! I've got the latest Mac Pro w/processor 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, Memory 64 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC, Thunderbolt 2... Don't know how they got that speed... Also, sorry I didn't answer your question about Raid 0 or Raid 6 speed. I saw people chiming in otherwise, and noticed at the moment this is the only speed related post here.

Q: 7. Does this support 3rd party cameras such as the Canon CR-N300 or similar?

A: The Honeywell MAXPRO Professional Edition 32-Channel NVR is designed to work best with Honeywell network cameras. It is not designed to work with Professional PTZ cameras like the Canon CRN300.

Q: 8. With this unit, can you edit in 8k? With the Canon R 5C?

A: The OWC 20TB miniStack STX & Thunderbolt Hub Xpansion (20TB HDD, Matte Black), B&H # OWCT4MS9H2N0, can be used to edit 8K video from the Canon R5 C.

Q: 9. What app for ios works with this to view cameras over internet?

I have tried FreeNAS and other means of having a systematic backup at home as well as file sharing from home but I didn't have success and I am not tech savvy. While the automatic backup through the USB external Drive setup did require a help of a friend I am able to use the new unit as my home cloud and backup system successfully. Even though I needed some technical help of a friend I am still giving a 5star because the product seems to be of a good quality and very feature rich at a price I couldn't find anywhere else.

I'm a photographer. When I order a new MacBook Pro M1 Max in October, I purchased the Synology 24TB DS218 NAS for less than upgrading the MacBook from a 1TB SSD to a 6TB SSD, and a third less than upgrading to an 8TB SSD. The Synology software made it quick and easy to configure the NAS, and when I attached USB drives to the NAS enclosure, transferring large amounts of files to the 24TB NAS through the Synology desktop was very fast. So now I have years of photo files, music files, and video files all in one place that I can access from multiple computers. I recently ordered a Synology DS220+ NAS from B&H that I'm using to back up the 24TB DS218 NAS.

I had my GoFlex NAS for several years now and somehow its software can not keep up with Mac software updates. This is my first time using Synology DiskStation. Besides noticing faster file transfer, this system offers lots of features and good Control Panel interface. The default setting is Raid 1 - disk mirroring for redundancy.

I am very happy with my purchase. I just hope this will last for a long time like the reliable GoFlex. Thanks Synology and B&H.

I bought this DiskStation to replace an aging Western Digital MyCloud device. I wanted a unit that supported RAID 1 disk duplication and allowed for future disk upgrades to a larger capacity. This unit nicely met those requirements. Installing the hard drives in the DiskStation was easy, I just followed the diagrams in the instructions. The instructions then gave me a link to a web address where I registered the product and downloaded the disk management system. The system installed and then formatted the hard drives. I opted to do a disk check as part of the formatting, so I let it run overnight. Next day it was finished and ready to go. I use this device to store system backups from six different PCs over my home network. I was able to modify my existing backup scripts to point to the new device. I was also able to copy files from my old device to the new one over the network. So far it has worked flawlessly. It is quiet and I like that it spins down the disks when they have been inactive for a period of time. As an added bonus, it backs up my systems faster than the old device did.

This is a kit you have to put together but it does not require any tools. There is a fold-out Quick Installation Guide that comes with it with pictures to guide you in installing the drives. There is no manual to read included so there was a lot of winging it. Assembly was pretty easy and made the correct assumption to plug it into the network and power it up. There was a link on the guide for reregistration which worked well for the NAS but not the two drives. There is a second link to find.synology.com that you need to follow which will update the NAS and its drives to the latest software and walk you through configuration. You need at least one directory and at least one folder in that directory to start transferring files. Once I figured that out it acted just like a normal computer drive. After configuring the NAS, my PC automatically found it under Network using File Explorer and sees it as just another drive. Went to another PC on the network and it found the NAS just as easily. Moved all my photos and videos to the new NAS and arranged them into subject matter. That is time consuming but needed to be done. So far this seems like a wise purchase.
