The 81C Filter from Heliopan controls the bluish coloration that affects daylight film. This is a strong salmon colored filter that can bring skin tones back to a respectable tone when the light changes during the day. It is especially useful under cloudy or open shade conditions since as the light changes, so does the color temperature. An 81C will decrease the color temperature by approximately 100 degrees Kelvin more than an 81B.

It's Autumn. The clouds are low hanging and the sky is "patchy blue". You've gone for a ride upstate to the mountains and the light in open shade is bluish. A photo taken of your girlfriend with daylight balanced film leaning against the side of a barn will yield bluish tones that she might not find particularly flattering. If the sky is significantly cloudy, an 81C filter will bring her skin tones back to a more appealing level than, perhaps, an 81B. The cloudier the day, the warmer the filter you require to eliminate the blue tint often found on such days. An 81C can also be used with electronic flash to reduce the amount of "blue" generated by the flash. An 81C is a strong filter that can also be used to make a warm scene even warmer such as a beach shot where you wish to enhance the overall sense of temperature.

The filter ring is made from brass yielding a stronger product. Brass filter rings are also less prone to jamming. In addition, the seal between the glass and filter ring is exceptionally strong giving the filter added strength and durability.

The reputation of Schott glass is world renowned. The high production standards combined with a sturdy brass filter ring make this filter hard to beat. It has a "heft" that is impressive. It may feel heavier but the benefit is in the construction and results. Not only is the glass exceptional but so is the seal between the ring and glass. Schott Glass used in the manufacture of this filter is legendary and synonymous with the highest standards of filter production.

Heliopan filters are "dyed in the mass" and ground, polished and coated to the highest standards of the German optical industry

Heliopan Lichtfilter-Technik of Munich, Germany, has changed their black anodized brass filter rings on most Heliopan non-rotating filters to their "slim" mounts. These slim mounts are made of black anodized brass stock and have so little rim in front of the lens (5.4mm) that they will not vignette with lenses as short as 21mm

Heliopan Lichtfilter-Technik of Munich, Germany has been a leader in the filter industry since 1949. They are known for their high quality and production standards. Their slim mounts facilitate using them with wider angle lenses. Heliopan offers most of their filters with either their standard hard coating or with their industry leading SH-PMC 16 layer multi-coating that transmits over 99.5% of the light striking it on to the image plane for the lowest flare and greatest color saturation

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this lens hood be used with a lens filter?

A: Yes, Just be mindful that filter being used must have 58 mm front threads in order to attach hood.

Q: 2. Does this filter interfere with the hood of the 150-600 mm Sigma lens?

A: Sigma 95mm Protector Filter does not interfere with the lens hood of the Sigma 150-600 lens.

Q: 3. What are the disadvantages of this filter compared to the Sigma Ceramic Protection Filter?

A: The Sigma Ceramic filter is basically the higher-end version of the standard Sigma 82mm protector; while the standard protector is pretty great by itself, the ceramic filter's ceramic-glass substrate has a much greater hardness value against bangs, scratches, etc., and the water-repellent coating makes it excellent during inclement weather.

Q: 4. what is the outer diameter of these lens hoods? Thank you!

A: The outer dimension of the hood is 60mm.

Q: 5. Hi,What is the main difference between this filter and Heliopan 46mm High-Transmission Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Filter ?I see that the filter factor for this one is between 2.3 and 2.8For the High-Transmission version is 2.0. That means more quality for the High-Transmission one.Do both of them feature the index markings on the edge of the filter ring ?The High-Transmission one doesn't have a slim mount, does it ?!And one last question: do they have the same glass and coating ?Kind regards !

A: The main difference between the Multi-coated Heliopan 46mm Circular Polarizer and the 46mm High Transmission Circular Polarizer is the filter factor; the high transmission CP will have a filter factor of one stop, where the multi-coated has a factor of approximately 1.3 stops. Both filters feature index markings. The high transmission CP does not have a slim mount. Both filters have the same 16-layer coating, and are both produced from Schott glass.

Q: 6. If I put this filter on a Nikon Z 24-70mm "S" lens, will the lens hood fit (on and reversed)? Will I see vignetting? Thanks!

A: The Heliopan 82mm Circular Polarizer SH-PMC Filter is not thin so it would vignette the 24-70 lens. This B+W filter would be a better option because ti is thin and will work with the hood for your lens: https://bhpho.to/31bpvbp

Q: 7. Will it affect the AF features of the lens at all?

A: This filter has no affect on auto focusing. The AF should work seamlessly when using this filter.

Q: 8. What is the height/length of this lens hood (less male screw threads)?

A: Length is less than 10mm for Heliopan 39mm short lens hood.

Q: 9. will this fit cannon t5 rebel

A: The Vivitar 2.2x Telephoto Conversion Lens Attachment for 58mm Threads is recommended for use on cameras with built-in lenses and camcorders. I personally recommend purchasing an interchangeable lens for use on the Canon EOS Digital REbel T5 DSLR camera for the best image quality. The Vivitar 2.2x Telephoto Conversion Lens Attachment for 58mm Threads is designed to connect to the filter threads of the lens, not directly to the camera. As such, if the lens you own has 58mm filter threads, you could connect the Vivitar conversion lens onto the camera, but you may get better image quality from a dedicated telephoto lens designed for use on the Canon EF or EF-S lens mount.

Q: 10. I want to use a center pinch lens cap on the front of this filter. Are the front threads really 58mm as well as the rear threads? Thank you for your time.

A: I bought the 39mm version of this hood, and on my shade both front and rear threads are 39mm.Not having the 58mm version, I can't say the same with any certainty.

High quality item. Works with a 75mm lens on an APS-C camera without vignetting. A big advantage of the Heliopan hood over the comparable B W hood is that you can use a lens cap without having to remove the hood. The B W hood does not accept a cap either on the end of the hood or the front of the lens.

This is a wonderful accompaniment for a photographer. Especially for beginners. Great on colors in the fall and bringing definition. For night-time astrophotography pics of stars, does wonders with minimizing light pollution glare.
