Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Point and shoot camera with PASM mode function..?? Since this is a FIXED Lens camera...how do set or select the Lens Aperture opening, if the camera is set on Aperture Priority Mode..??

A: As the Nikon COOLPIX A900 Digital Camera is a new camera that has not yet been released/begun shipping, Nikon has not yet released or posted the instruction manual for the camera on their website. As such, I cannot describe how to change the lens' aperture. However, as with all point-and-shoot cameras that have P/S/A/M control options, it will most likely be changed via either the control dial on the top of the camera next to the Mode dial or via the dial/four-way controller on the rear of the camera. The exact procedure would be described in the camera's instruction manual.

Q: 2. When it's shut off is there a shutter to protect the lens?

A: The lens retracts and is protected while the camera is off.

Q: 3. Does this support Depth of Field, to blur the background?

A: The Nikon COOLPIX A900 Digital Camera has both Aperture-Priority and Manual modes, as well as has a maximum aperture of f/3.4-6.9, so you would be able to control the depth-of-field with the camera. However, do note that due to the small maximum aperture, and the small 1/2.3 CMOS sensor size, you will have nowhere near the depth-of-field control as you would with a camera with a larger sensor, such as a 1 , Micro Four Thirds, APS-C, or full-frame sensor.

Q: 4. How many megapixels?

A: 20mp

Q: 5. Does the battery charge via the usb cable?

A: Yes, You can use any standard USB cable, as well any charger, or even the computer USB to charge it

Q: 6. Will this fit a7c II with kit lens?

A: Yes the MegaGear Ultralight Neoprene Camera Case for the Sony a7C with Short Lens, will work with the Sony A7Cii with a kit lens.

Q: 7. am i able to change the settings from 4k to 1080p video recording?

A: Movie menu switch from 1080 to 2160

Q: 8. Does it fit the RX10 iv?

A: Yes, the MegaGear MG755 can fit the Sony RX10 IV.

Q: 9. Does it fit the RX10 IV with the sun cap (cover) on??

A: The MegaGear Ultralight Neoprene Camera Case with Carabiner for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 III/RX10 IV (Black) fits with the lens cap on the camera. It is a very tight fit and will be very hard to get it to fit with the lens hood though.

Q: 10. Is the zoom optical, digital, or a combination of both?

A: The Zoom is 35X optical and 4x digital. The optics is equivalent to 24-840mm lens in a 35mm camera. 840mm is one heck of a zoom factor. I would not use the digital zoom as it interpolates between pixels and with 840mm you don't need it. It is a great camera for the price. I purchase one for my wife from B&H. A really neat feature is the ability to transfer the pictures to you smart device (iPhone, iPad or Android device.I have the D800 and my wife just got me the D850 for my birthday.

It is apparent from all of the photos and videos that this is a very capable camera and delivers on what it advertises.  It is the closest thing yet to that miracle camera we all fantasize about that goes from macro to wide to telescopic, and it does it quite well.  Yeah, you need a tripod, and any serious photographer owns one.  Dont want to carry it, then at least a monopod is in order - real photogs have one of those, too.  This camera is a large device and requires stability, and if you can afford it you can also afford something to support it.

I dont like it when people blame the equipment for their poor skills, and there is plenty of proof that this camera can hold its own and produce pleasing images and videos for the vast number of people who will be interested in it.  It is a tool, and like any other tool you have to learn how to use it - you dont blame the hammer when it misses the nail.

Also, most of us own more than one screwdriver, and likewise my P1000 compliments my other cameras which have their own designated purposes, from my RX10 and a6000 for beautiful images to my HX9 and my phone for snapshots to my x3000 on my biking helmet.  Using the right tool for the job is crucial to success and is what makes photography a joyful experience.  If my pics and vids dont turn out, I dont blame the camera - I practice more.

Finally, I have a camera that can get a wildlife shot before I scare it away. Not being a pro, I could never afford those arm long expensive lenses.  This one isnt cheap either but within a reasonable range.  Aim it East and you can see tomorrow.  A picture of a newly wed at 125mm shows their two kids with them at 3000mm!  Thank you Nikon; thank you BHPhoto!  No complaints with camera.  For what it does and what I wanted it for...this camera is perfect.  It fits fine in the Coolpix p1000 Holster.  Thanks, again to all, K

Heavier than my previous (Fuji) bridge camera at about 3.5 pounds.
BUT, pics are fabulous. No problems so far but lots to learn about this camera.

As an owner of the P900 for the last three years, I had a feeling I would enjoy this P1000.  I was correct.  It is a better camera than the P900.  I love the new improved way to manually focus this camera.  Also the shoe offers up new options not available to the P900.  The new DC2 cable port adds even more options such as light sensor triggers or intervelometers.

The one negative is that Nikon used the same sensor as the P900.  All this camera...it could use a bigger sensor.

I had been wanting this camera ever since it came out but I thought the price as new was a bit high. When the price dropped on the refurbished unit, I had another GAS attack. However I was afraid that the camera would not work properly. When it arrived I was presently surprised. Other than the camera did not come in a nikon box , you could not tell it was a refurbished unit. It was very clean with no visible marks or scratches.
It will require a learning curve before I get to know all the bells and whistles. I like to shoot birds and old buildings. The extra reach will really help. The camera is not as heavy as I thought it would be. A great camera.

Coming from the RED and down to a limited budget for some upcoming projects, Im in love with the Nikon P1000.

I love that it has Prime Lens presets from 24mm, 35mm, 55mm, 85mm, 105mm etc.  While Im building up my own personal gear set instead of high end rentals this is invaluable.

Shooting wildlife and people with this camera is amazing, you can literally be nearly a mile away from a subject and still fill the frame. Youre able to get peoples natural reactions and you can get in so close to wildlife that they dont even know youre there, you can see details such as individual strands of feathers on birds. In fact the zoom is so good that at 1/4 mile I could read the writing on the bridge of a large cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale from the Causeway Bridge with the stern closest to me.

For shots of the moon I am in awe, after the B700 I was dying for the upgrade for the P900 (I went for the B700 as it was 4K), and the P1000 has not disappointed.  There is very little flutter on the fully extended zoom in wind which was a problem with warped video on the B700, not so on the P1000, rock steady.

Ive now invested in a Neewer Cine Camera rig today with an LCD 7 monitor with it.  Next I need to invest in a good audio kit and then a few more tools and Im set.

The only con I have found with the P1000 is the camera zoom memory isnt quite the same as the B700, it doesnt stop at some of the important Cinema Prime focal lengths e.g. 55mm and that isnt a big deal, you just have to set it manually.  Hopefully they can provide this as an option in a later firmware update.

Oh one final drawback is the limited record length and no ability to record in video RAW.  This can be worked around via an external Atomos or Blackmagic Monitor/Recorder via the HDMI signal.

All in all this is an amazing camera for cinematographers on a limited budget, if you know your tools and craft well, you can pull off a million dollar image with this camera.
