The 62mm Hoya YA3 Pro Orange Filter can be used to increase image contrast when photographing using a film camera system with black-and-white film installed. This filter's effect corresponds to that of a Wratten 21 filter. Wavelengths of visible light that are apparent as green, blue, and violet colors to the human eye are suppressed, while visible light associated with yellow, orange, and red colors are able to more easily pass through the Hoya 62mm YA3 Pro Orange Filter and into the lens it is mounted in front of. When photographing with this filter along with black-and-white film, green, blue, and violet-colored subjects within a scene are reproduced in dark shades of gray than if a filter was not used. Simultaneously, yellow, orange, and red subjects are rendered in light shades of gray.

When applied to black-and-white photography, the increased contrast provided by the Hoya 62mm YA3 Pro Orange Filter can result in dark skies with very defined clouds. Shades of green among foliage can be much more differentiated relative to skin tones, while the appearance of freckles and skin blemishes is reduced. Additionally, this filter can also minimize the presence of haze caused by the bluish cast of daylight.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes three layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and help it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters. This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference with HD Nano MK II?, which one is better?

A: The Hoya 82mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter has 16 layers of nano multi-coating, while the Hoya HD Nano MK II has 32 layers of nano multi-coating.

Q: 2. Is there any noticeable color casting with this filter?

A: The Hoya alpha II Circular Polarizer Filter doesn't have any noticeable color casting.

Q: 3. Hoya 82mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter and Hoya 82mm EVO Antistatic Circular Polarizer Filter. Which one is better and why? Why HD3 so expensive? Is the photos will be different?

A: The HD3 has harder coatings, and uses a higher quality polarization film.

Q: 4. How is this filter different from the Hoya filter kit, which has three filters for $69? This filter alone costs more than that.

A: Thinner profile and most likely different optical glass technology. I am not certain about the glass. I have not used the filter kit.

Q: 5. I plan on using the filter on a drone, and the gimbal on the drone requires a weight range for filters to maintain balance. Does anybody know how much the filter weights (in grams, if possible)? Thanks!

A: .9 oz, according to my kitchen scale. Or 25 grams.

Q: 6. Is this a thin filter? What is the thickness of it?

A: Although Hoya does not publish the thickness of the NXT Plus Circular Polarizer, it would not be the thinnest option from Hoya. You may want to look to the Hoya 72mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter, BH # HOCPHD372 which is less likely to cause vignetting on wide-angle lenses. https://bhpho.to/3LXhNmp

Q: 7. Is it normal for a circular polarizer to have movement once attached to the lens?

A: Define movement. It screws on and that should be tight (no movement). The filter itself turns to orient the angle of the polarization (as opposed to a non circular polarizing filter which only really works when shooting in landscape mode)

Q: 8. Is this compatible with Pentax K70?

A: The Hoya 62mm R72 Infrared Filter is compatible with the K70. As for results it will vary depending on settings and the scene/shot.

Q: 9. Is the .3 stop light loss number in the specifications accurate?

A: I suspect that there is some semantics involved. However, I find the in my terms the factor is 1.3. By this I mean for example: holding the shutter speed constant, I get a reading of f9 without the filter, with the filter on and adjusted for maximum effect it will require a aperture of f5.6 for an equivalent exposure. I was mislead by the point three as well, but it is still better than the 2.5 or a bit more that conventional filters of this type yield.Hope this helps.

Q: 10. how many stops of light should we compensate for with this filter?

A: We should compensate about 5-6 stops of light with the Hoya 62mm R72 Infrared Filter.
