Ikan Onyx 120 Bi-color On-camera Led Light

$239.97 $364.75

The Onyx 120 Bi-Color On-Camera LED Light from ikan has an output of roughly 100W at full power, yet draws only 15W. It is a bi-color light that enables you to adjust the color temperature of the fixture's output from 3200 to 5600K and features a CRI of 95 and TLCI of 96 in both Tungsten and Daylight. Power on/off, dimming, and color temperature are controlled from the back of the fixture via four buttons. A two-digit LED screen is shared for dimming and color temp, with an indicator light informing you of which characteristic you are controlling.

The fixture powers from an L-series battery, and ships with the equivalent of a 550 L-series battery. You can also power the fixture from an optional AC power supply that outputs 13 to 17 VDC. The built-in diffusion helps prevent the effect of multiple cast shadows that afflict some LED array-type lights. A built-in 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole, and the included cold shoe adapter enable mounting the fixture on your camera.

    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the unit accepts AA batteries?

A: No, it only accepts a rechargeable battery that comes with the unit (SONY NP-F550/570).

Q: 2. Is this light suitable for use as studio lighting for digital portrait photography?

A: I suppose it could be used in a low budget setup, but the output is not very bright and the surface area of the source is pretty small, so the light is not that diffuse. It is easy to work with and versatile in both color and output controls, so if you're working with multiple light sources in a totally controlled environment (where you can control ambient light) and you're good with cranking up your ISO, this would be an OK option.

Q: 3. Does this light come with a carrying bag ?

A: It does not include a bag- but we do sell a nice bag for the light and accessories.

Q: 4. I just received the item from B&H I noticed right away that the power supply does not power up the light. The power supply is 12v and the light needs 17v. Is there a power supply adapter for this light? thanks

A: Vivek, 12V cord (Dual Battery AC Adapter) included with the OYB240 is meant to charge the batteries, not the light itself.

Q: 5. Is there any kind of diffuser that this light comes with or is available for it?

A: This light does not include diffusion, nor are we aware of a specific diffusion product for it. However it is a dimmable light, you will be able to control the amount of light it is outputting with the dimmer.

Q: 6. Hola, soy de Chile.El cargador de batera es compatible con el voltaje de 220 Volt? Gracias.

A: The battery this light uses will work with a charger that is Multi-Voltage. You will be able to use this light internationally.

Q: 7. So if only half the bulbs are being used at full Daylight setting or full Tungsten setting, is the illumination still equal to a 250 W bulb, or only a 125W bulb at each setting? Thx!

A: The light is equivalent to 250W incandescent light. The design of the lights does not actually allow both daylight and Tungsten bulbs to be turned on at full power at the same time.

Q: 8. does it have a battery power meter? How it works. My Light overheated and battery die in the middle of a wedding

A: I’ve been disappointed with the battery life of this light.

Q: 9. When I plug in the battery charger, it shows a red light. After several hours this light is still red. Does the charger light change to green when fully charged? How long should this take?

A: The batteries need to be charged on a separate charger for this light. It uses L-series batteries, which require a specific charger and depending upon the size of the battery, charge times can vary anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the model and brand of charger-- some even longer.

Q: 10. What's the lux measurement on this light at one meter?

    A: Lux at 1m: 3200K: 460 lux 4400K: 620 lux 5600K: 520 lux

It is perfect for what I need. I just don't know how long the battery will last if it was on all the time. I only turned it on when I'm ready to shoot. So far I'm very satisfied. Thanks.

I am so glad I did my research. Initially I had several other lights in mind. This one is SUPER bright for it's size, built VERY very well, does all the basics well and is very simple to use. What more could i ask for. I bought this small one as a test to see whether I would buy two of it's bigger brothers. I will for sure. I loathe cheap feeling stuff. This satisfies me a great deal.

I picked up a few of the Ikan Onyx lights as its always good to have small compact, battery operated LED lights in ones kit as you never know when you will need them. Needless to say, these are some great lights.

The Onyx lights are rugged, built out of metal (aluminum) they can take a beating. The light output is amazing for a a small compact fixture that is bi-color. The run time on an NP battery is also very impressive, about 3 to 4 hours or more on the larger NP 970 battery.

I used them on my Discovery Science Channel special as the only light while exploring the Chernobyl Nuclear Complex and the city of Pripyat.

In the attached photo you can see how bright one single unit is. The only thing lighting the scenes in both photos is the Ikan Onyx bouncing off the walls. (I have a small headlamp so I can see the controls on the camera and geiger counter)

I can't recommend this product enough, tough, bright, and compact.

This is absolutely perfect for what weeded it for.  It has a wide range to brightness to work with, and fits right in my bag.  Highly recommended if you dont feel like lugging around a studio light in a separate bag.

This is the second one that I bought because the first one worked great. Now owning two of these, one for each camera. Functions as I need, and battery lasts all night (wedding receptions, etc). Easy to set the color and brightness.

I've been an iKan user for years, and this latest light is amazing.
In my opinion it's the perfect size for run and gun event shooters.
It's very light even with a medium sony battery attached. Build quality is excellent, the body is aluminum and will no doubt handle anything you can throw at it. It has high CRI leds, on both ends of it's range, the 3200k is very true and warm without looking overly orange or yellow, likewise the 5600k is a nice bright white no crazy blue tint like the LEDs of the past. The light's dimmable capability is also first class. Sometimes you'll find yourself in a situation where you just need a touch of light, even at 10% output, the light is still true. For example, if you really need to crank it up to 100% to throw light across a dancefloor this little light will get the job done. For about $70 US, this light is a steal for the quality and versatility is provides.

This thing is a tank, simple to use, surprisingly bright and adjust. I am a real stickler for quality feel function. This is a thouroughly satisfying product. I will buy it's older brothers for sure.

I’m surprise with this little thing. It puts out a good amount of light for what I intend to use it for. I use it mainly for shooting objects memorabilia stuff. It produces good color. I can’t comment of how it will last with one full battery charge. I guess that depends on how you use it. Overall I’m happy and satisfied.
