Q: 1. Thanks for your explanation of copy machine vs photo printer. Most of us understand that copy machine prints more text documents while photo printer was not intended to print text but photos. Therefore I would never have thought about asking the estimate of P900 ink usage of print text books — Please forgive me my bluntness. I have also noticed that Epson’s change of cartridge size is possibly a way of increase ink price, e.g. 80ml cartridges cost only $58 each, of course the P900 is much compact. For people who upgrade from P800 to P900, it is definitely a leap of ink cost increase. May I use 3 highly pathetic scenarios for discussion purpose: 1. Print a photo of dark sky with 95% of the entire sky is dark blue and 5% with stars in the night sky. I will think the black and blue cartridges will soon go empty while yellow or magenta ink likely untouched. (How many prints could be produced with 50ml blue and black cartridges in this case?) 2. A high key photo of sky with a tint of orange color. In this case I would assume that the yellow and magenta cartridge will be able to produce a lot more prints than scenario 1. ((But roughly how many prints could be made before yellow and magenta run out?) 3. To print a color chart that divides 17X22 into 10 portions with each of them filled with matching colors of the 10 ink cartridge set. I will assume all the ink cartridge will run out at the same time. (How many prints CAN be produced in this case? — this is Epson color science not artistry. Do you think Epson should print this scenario on to every of their ink cartridges labels, just like a pack of frozen lasagne commonly print “for 2 people or for 4 people” on their packages? ) I am just frustrated that no body seem to want to give a serious answer. I am seriously considering pre-ordering the P900 and I have been buying from B&H for over 20 years.

A: Unfortunately there is no answer. It basically depends on how much ml of ink is on each print & that is something experience & time will tell. this is a high quality photo printer which definitely bring down the cost of more compact printers per print but figure the value of the final product "Gallery & Museum Quality".

Q: 2. When buying a copy machine, sales people will tell you roughly how many A4 copies each cartridge can produce, say from 800 to 1000 pages. I do not expect an accurate answer but would like to get a ballpark number about each Epson ink cartridge, or a set of 10 cartridges...otherwise how I make decision if I should per-order the upcoming 900? I am just talking about getting GENERAL ideas.

A: Copy Machines do mostly text & the amount of pages they tell you are based on 4% or 5% per page which is approx. 10-12 lines of regular size text. Once you have heavier print or graphics or if you print a solid black page it's like printing 25 pages. By printing photos on inkjet printers the case is much different pending on the quality & density of the print & amount of color. If the background is white or even light it uses less & there is no way to give an estimate. What you can do is compare the price of the size of the cartridge & see what will be cheaper per ml. Here for the Epson P900 you get 50ml for $42 & for the Epson P700 you get 25ml for $38. Bottom line is these are professional high quality printers & the outcome of the prints pay off by far.

Q: 3. Why no matter black (MK)?

A: We have two kits. For the Matte black option please see B&H # EPSCMBP400.

Q: 4. This sounds dumb but I have heard that B&W printing uses some color inks in the mix. What inks should I keep in stock for B&W printing besides the obvious 4 blacks?

A: I would recommend to keep all 9 ink cartridges in stock. Just to be safe. Depending on the printer model, some printers will not print if a cartridge is empty.

Q: 5. If I primarily am printing with matte black, is it possible to run the printer with an empty photo black?

A: When the cartridge finishes, there is usually some ink left in the line and will finish the print job. However, it will likely not allow you to print another job after that.

Q: 6. What is the difference between the T324 and T3248 ink? Are they both compatible for the SureColor P400?

A: T324 is the ink series for the Epson P400 Printer. The number after that which in this case it's "8" stands for the color usually Matte Black. i.e. T3241 is Photo Black, T3242 is Cyan, etc...

Q: 7. I count 7 cartridges when the add says eight?

A: The Gloss Optimiseur is a 2 pack ... Total 8 cartridges

Q: 8. Can these 50 ml cartridges fit on the new Epson SureColor S700?

A: These cartridges will not fit the Epson SureColor P700. The correct ink for the P700 is Epson 770.

Q: 9. What is the difference between the 'old' T850 and the 'new' T850xxxN inks?

A: The Epson T85080N UltraChrome HD Matte Black Ink Cartridge is part of a new series of inks that allow for better efficiency, improved black density, and faster speed .

Q: 10. How many prints can this kit do?

A: It all depends on the paper size, the amount of each color on a print, the density, & white back ground. Even Canon can't disclose that info. The only way you might get an estimate is by using it for a while & based on the print size & style you might get some idea. Lets face fact: The inks are quite large (50 ml) & consider the quality of the prints you get out of this printer actually become priceless in value.

Best results achieved by using this and other Epson inks rather than third party inks for quality photos results.

This is the best way to get a set of T324 inks.  Since you are using the SureColor 400 there is little chance you will use other inks so this is the way to go for a full set.

I am able to get great prints with the ink and printer. Made prints of waterfalls from photos from a recent trip to the CT lakes area in NH.
