Create a long range wireless flash setup with ease by picking up the WT-1T Wireless Transceiver from Metz. By using a reliable 2.4 GHz radio signal and a selection of 15 channels, users will be able to trigger receivers up to 984' away, without requiring line-of-sight and with minimal interference. Also, this system is compatible with Sony's ADI / P-TTL flashes, permitting both TTL and manual control options and support for high-speed sync at up to 1/8000 second. Users will even have access to a TTL pass-through hot shoe on the top for using a flash directly on camera or setting up this transceiver unit as a receiver.

When multiple flashes are involved, the WT-1T offers group control with three groups for creating more elaborate setups. It also has a backlit LCD screen to show and change current settings as well as a standard sync port for use with studio strobes. Additionally, it has a USB connection for firmware updates.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this unit compatible when using the MB D-17 battery grip ?

A: You wouldn't be able to use both the WT-7A and the MBD-17 together.

Q: 2. Will this unit work with the Sony flashes such as F43M?

A: If you do a search for WT-1 for Sony you will see that Metz makes a unit for Sony. I shoot with Canon. Im not familiar with Sony cameras. I imagine you could give Metz a call to make sure its compatible with your camera.

Q: 3. I haven't found any detailed specs for the Camera Control Pro 2 software. What capabilities does this offer and does the application require use of the WT-7A WIFI unit? Can you actually see the Live View image from the camera and control aperature, shutter and perhaps zoom and focus via WIFI?

A: All of the key features of this software can be seen at the following page: http://bit.ly/1S4kzDh

Q: 4. Have a Sony HVL60 Flash. Would like to make this flash totally wireless without purchasing the HVL60-FM wireless unit. Will both units work with a Sony RX10M4 camera?

A: You would need a minimum of two WT-1T units: one for the camera and one for the HVL-F60M flash. It is possible that is can work on the RX10 Mark IV, but it has not been tested to our knowledge.

Q: 5. Can you use a Metz (Nikon) receiver WT-1R with a Metz (Sony) WT-1T trigger?

A: No, you cannot. According to Metz, they state that it is not recommended to mix different WT-1 radio trigger systems (e.g. WT-1T Nikon and WT-1R Sony). Such a mixed system will not work correctly.

Q: 6. Is this equipment recognized by Lightroom or capture one? Basically can I replace the tethering cable with the wt-7a and still download into either of the programs?

A: I was able to set up a quick test where I had the WT-7 send the picture to a folder on a hard drive, then have Adobe Lightroom take the picture and perform an action to the photo.

Q: 7. Can these provide either second curtain or high speed sync for Canon Mark III with multiple Paul C Buff Einstein 640 strobes?

A: Unfortunately, this transceiver will only provide high speed sync capability with Canon or Canon compatible Metz flashes from the Canon 5D Mark III.

Q: 8. Can the WT-1T be used as a Receiver?

A: Yes. The following unit is a combination Transmitter and Receiver.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with the D810?

A: No, it is not. The Nikon WT-7A Wireless Transmitter is only compatible for use with the Nikon D500 DSLR camera. Nikon lists the Nikon WT-5A Wireless Transmitter, B&H # NIWT5A, and the Nikon UT-1 Communication Unit With WT-5A, B&H # NIUT1WT5A, as the only wireless units compatible for use with the Nikon D810 DSLR camera.

Q: 10. Which Sony camera shoe is this compatible with old A's or newer MIS as on A7. If the latter, can I then use a HVL 42AM (old style) on top of the transceiver?

A: The Metz WT-1T Wireless Transceiver for Sony, B&H # MEMZWT1TS, listed above uses the Sony Multi-Interface hot shoe both on the bottom and top hot shoe. If you wish to use the WT-1T on an older Sony Alpha camera that uses the (now discontinued) Minolta Auto-Lock hot shoe design, you may purchase the Sony Auto-Lock Shoe Adapter, B&H # SOADPAMA, to connect the Metz WT-1T to your camera. If you wish to connect an older Auto-Lock hot shoe flash such as the Sony HVL-F42AM Digital Camera Flash to either the WT-1T or the WT-1R, you would need to purchase the Sony Multi Interface Shoe Adapter, B&H # SOADPMAA, for your usage needs.

I use the WT-5A to send the photos to my iPad. I can trigger and save the photos during a shoot. Its reliable and simple to use. The biggest challenge was setting it up, but once it was done, I was happy with the result. Yes, it's expensive, but it's well worth the price.

I love this little transmitter. Would rather that Nikon included WiFi on the D4 as this adds another gizmo attached to the camera, but that is another story. Consumes a lot of battery power, but I carry 4 spares so I have juice to spare. Because of it's design it would not survive a fall that the camera would otherwise not have a problem with.
