When you attach a tripod quick release plate to the camera base, you can no longer open the battery access door, which houses the memory card slot as well. The problem is that the small body of this camera has the location of the tripod mount screw thread too close to the battery access door. Therefore, memory card and battery changes require full disassembly of any camera rig gear. This problem makes using the Panasonic G7 undesirable for video production where accessories are typically added to the camera, like a microphone mixer, wireless and wired microphones, audio recorders, cage brackets and other stuff. You will not have a functional tricked out video rig when you can't get fast access to the memory card or battery. Still photography with a tripod is a serious problem with these cameras as well.
The solution to this problem is this ALZO Liberator Battery Door Clearance Plate shown here. This simple device attaches to the bottom of the camera with a 1/4 inch x 20 cap screw and then includes 2 tripod mount thread holes. One of the holes is positioned at the lens focal point and the other is farther from the battery access door to allow for use with very large camera quick releases, like those on PRO video tripods.
The special 3M adhesive pad on the bottom of the plate provides a strong bond, but it is not permanent. This adhesive pad prevents rotation of the plate on the camera. The ALZO Liberator Battery Door Clearance Plate can be removed at any time without leaving any residue on the camera. The remarkable adhesive can be cleaned with soap and water to restore adhesion properties.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How fast is autofocus, and does the camera use Contrast or Phase detection?

A: Contrast

Q: 2. Some reviewers claim 120fps is soft and inferior to Sony RX10II-III. Could it be the FZ2500's sensor is inchanged from the FZ1000 and Sony's stavked sensor is making the Sony HFR video much superior to the FZ2500's slow motion?

A: We are not sure of the exact technology that creates the slow motion effects in these cameras. Your best option is always to look for examples of footage on websites like Youtube and Vimeo to compare and contract the footage for yourself.

Q: 3. In what country is the fz2500 made?

A: The product was manufactured in China for the US Market.

Q: 4. Can this do stop motion like the fz300

A: Interesting. I can tell you like Lumix. We do too. We upgraded from the FZ200 and before that ZS20 and several others. The wide angle lens is wonderful. We are not professionals but like Lumix as they are relative easy to use from one to another. We found the FZ2500 does far more than any other Lumix. The one we purchased ran out of battery life within 30 min. The same thing happened when we put in a new battery. We sent it in for repair to the manufacturer and it was replaced within a week. We have not had a chance to see if the new one solves this problem and I kinda think it will. For your answer your question call the people at B&H. I found them to be professional and will gladly answer your questions.

Q: 5. Are the built-in neutral density filters for video only or do they apply to stills also?

A: The ND filters are built into the lens and will work in either mode.

Q: 6. What is the maximum flash sync speed with built in flash? And What is the Guide # of the built in flash? If using an external Panasonic flash, what is the maximum sync speed ?

A: As per Panasonic, the flash sync speed can vary from 1 sec to 1/4000 on the most basic flash setting, whether using the pop up flash or an external shoe mount flash. While they do not offer a guide number for the pop up flash, the range in which it is most effective is 1.6-43 ft for wide and 3.3-26 ft in telephoto ranges, at AUTO ISO.

Q: 7. Sony has upgraded the 1 sensor with a stacked version. Has Panasonic upgraded their sensor from the original FZ1000?

A: This is the same sensor that is in the FZ1000

Q: 8. Is the LCD screen a touch screen like GH4 and can you do touch focus on it?

A: The screen is touch screen and it does offer touch to focus.

Q: 9. Is there continuous 120fps recording in full 1080? Continuous as in hit the record button for instanious slo mo with no buffering ala the Sony RX series and no limit in clip/file length.

A: AVCHD/ MP4 (FHD or HD) will clip the file at 30 min or 4gb, but will allow you to record continuously. MP4 4k or LPCM or MOV will allow continuous recording and with using SDXC cards will allow up to 3 hours or 96gb before clipping.

Q: 10. What is the equivalent zoom range for 4k video?

A: By Panny specs the the lens is 36-720 equivalent in 4K

I bought one, tried it out, then bought 30 more for my class set of 30 Canon M50s. Now my students don't have to remove the tripod plates, and they're not losing them anymore as well. Works for both card and battery swapping. Depending on your tripod, you can probably even leave the camera on the tripod when you swap batts.

This item is designed and engineered well, and it accomplishes exactly one thing: it provides an offset for a quick-release plate so that you can open the battery door on a Canon M50 without removing the camera from the tripod. Yes, the camera is no longer centered on the tripod head, but this is rarely a problem. There are hacks and other methods described online to accomplish the same thing, but this one is simple and clearly works. For me it saves lots of time and effort and is well worth the money.
