Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is there a vampire clip for the Lectrosonics M152 lav mic?
A: Yes there is. The vampire clip for the Lectrosonics lav is actually the same one that works on the Tram. B&H # TRBCH.
Q: 2. Do these mics produce two mono signals, meaning the left mic is the left channel and the other mic is on the right channel? Or are they mixed into stereo, both mics on the right and left channel? Thanks!
A: Each microphone is sent to a separate channel (left and right).
Q: 3. Generally speaking, how do the specs (and sound) of this mic compare with those of the Senal UTM-86? Thanks.
A: The Lectrosonics M152/5P offers excellent quality and is highly preferred for commercial applications.
Q: 4. What are people using to mount these, and to minimize clothing noise?
A: It's really more about where you are mounting these rather than about what you are mounting it with.I use basic Rycote Undercovers as the sticky element and then I find a dead spot under the subject's clothing.
Q: 5. Are the clips removable?
A: yes.
Q: 6. Does this version have the locking (screw-on) 3.5mm jack? Such as for a Sennheiser G3, or DR-10L?
A: No, this microphone has a non-locking 3.5mm TRS connector for use with a recorder, camera or a device with a standard mic input. We do offer the omnidirectional Microphone Madness Lavalier Mic for Select Sennheiser Systems in black (B&H # MIPSMLSRBL) or beige (B&H # MIPSMLSRBE) as a special order item. We do have a selection of other mics that are compatible with Sennheiser transmitters and the DR-10L. Please feel free to contact us through live chat or by phone if you would like further assistance. You can reach us by phone at 800-606-6969 or 212-444-6615.
Q: 7. All I get is a hiss and no recording with my canon 600D. Why does it not work with DSLRs like it says?
A: Please check the battery in the microphone, that it is inserted correctly and the microphone is powered on. If this does not remedy the issue please contact our Customer Service team directly: Customer Service Team 800.221.5743 cs@bhphotovideo.com
Q: 8. would these work for a wireless system? for example, the new Rode Wireless Go system or Sennheiser XSW kits? do transmitters typically provide the plug in power needed for these lavs?
A: This will work with the Rode Go systems very well, I've used them together in the past and overall had a good experience. However it does not work with Sennheiser wireless system since they have a proprietary locking pin, so when buying lavs for Sennheiser systems it either needs to be made buy Sennheiser or for Sennheiser.
Q: 9. Is it possible to change the connector for a XLR ?
A: You can use an adapter to convert the plug from TA5F to standard 3-pin XLR male like the Ambient Recording EMP5S Electret Microphone Power Adapter for Lectrosonics Microphones (B&H # AMEMP5S) or Lectrosonics MCA5X (B&H # LEMCA5X) which will both convert the plug to XLR and also converts phantom power to plug-in power since the mic requires 1.3 to 10V.
Q: 10. Looking at this, the Countyman B6 and the Sanken COS-11D for a documentary I'm doing for a hospital in a small African country this summer. I know the B6 and 11D are highly regarded, but given the $ and my need for 2-3 mics while paying for them out-of-pocket, I want to find the best bang-for-buck without sacrificing a lot in sound quality. My big question before trying it is, how is the self-noise and handling-noise on this unit? Thx in advance.
A: The Microphone Madness MM-MSLM is an excellent microphone for the money, relatively quiet, and not too bad on the handling noise. You may want to pick up some hush lav quieting sleeves (used with the sanken lavs) to better isolate the microphone from rustling noise. Also, please not the microphone requires power via bias voltage; 1 to 9 VDC.
