Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is this mic / xlr connector balanced?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 2. Can this mic be connectected to an additional XLR cable to extend the distance from camera to the subject?

A: Yes just plug it into the silver base. That's where the battery goes, just use a regular mic cable.

Q: 3. To link this to a DSLR with a 3.5mm jack in a way that adds to the length of the cord, I could use a 20' Kopul Premium Performance 3000 Series XLR M to XLR F Microphone Cable, plus a Kopul LMT100 - Low to High Impedance Matching Transformer, correct? The length will not degrade the sound, and I can go right into the camera?

A: Correct. A standard XLR mic cable in addition to the Kopul LMT-100 cable will allow you to connect the ECM-44B directly to a DSLR. At this length would not affect the audio quality.

Q: 4. I use a Microphone Madness MM-MSLM Omnidirectional MatchStick Lapel Microphone (Black) with the Zoom H1N. Are there any adapters that I should have between the two or can the mic just plug into the recorder?

A: You don't need any adapters. It's a 3.5mm mic in on the H1 and a 3.5mm on the lav's connector. All you have to do is plug it in.

Q: 5. Will this work with a digital recorder or a VIXIA 82 camcorder?

A: thank you for your question. This will work with the Vixia 82 an with any audio recorder that has a stereo mic input and can provide plug in power.

Q: 6. Will this work with the Zoom h1?

A: I have used this product with the zoom H6 only, and it works well.I am not sure about the zoom h1. If there is a connection on the device, it should work just fine.

Q: 7. Are the clips removable?

A: yes.

Q: 8. Do these mics produce two mono signals, meaning the left mic is the left channel and the other mic is on the right channel? Or are they mixed into stereo, both mics on the right and left channel? Thanks!

A: Each microphone is sent to a separate channel (left and right).

Q: 9. Are there certain settings you'd use this mic with the zoom H1, for a wedding?

A: I've used .wav format, 48khz 24 bit, lo cut off, and auto level off settings with a Zoom H1 with this mic to record wedding ceremonies and had good success. You'll have to play with the input level because each shooting scenario will vary but I always normalize in post with Adobe Audition anyway. Keep in mind this mic will only record the voice of the person it's attached to.

Q: 10. Will this work with a portable audio recorder like the Zoom H4N or the Tascam dr-40 (I think it'd need a 1/4 adapter for that one)?

A: I use it with a Zoom H4N and it works very nicely. I did not need an adapter for it.

This Mic has been a great addition to the gear bag! Has a nice length to the cord and works great for interviews and podcasts. Super low profile and hides easily.
