Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this version have the locking (screw-on) 3.5mm jack? Such as for a Sennheiser G3, or DR-10L?

A: No, this microphone has a non-locking 3.5mm TRS connector for use with a recorder, camera or a device with a standard mic input. We do offer the omnidirectional Microphone Madness Lavalier Mic for Select Sennheiser Systems in black (B&H # MIPSMLSRBL) or beige (B&H # MIPSMLSRBE) as a special order item. We do have a selection of other mics that are compatible with Sennheiser transmitters and the DR-10L. Please feel free to contact us through live chat or by phone if you would like further assistance. You can reach us by phone at 800-606-6969 or 212-444-6615.

Q: 2. Looking at this, the Countyman B6 and the Sanken COS-11D for a documentary I'm doing for a hospital in a small African country this summer. I know the B6 and 11D are highly regarded, but given the $ and my need for 2-3 mics while paying for them out-of-pocket, I want to find the best bang-for-buck without sacrificing a lot in sound quality. My big question before trying it is, how is the self-noise and handling-noise on this unit? Thx in advance.

A: The Microphone Madness MM-MSLM is an excellent microphone for the money, relatively quiet, and not too bad on the handling noise. You may want to pick up some hush lav quieting sleeves (used with the sanken lavs) to better isolate the microphone from rustling noise. Also, please not the microphone requires power via bias voltage; 1 to 9 VDC.

Q: 3. is there an adapter to plug a Sennheiser over the ear mic to a Shure transmitter?

A: We do not have an adapter to convert this microphone for use with a Shure transmitter, but we do have the same microphone available with a TA4F connector that is wired for use with a Shure transmitter (B&H # PYPMEMS13).

Q: 4. Is the 1/8 inch jack straight or a right angle?

A: It is at a right angle.

Q: 5. Are these good to capture wildlife and nature sounds when paired with a Sony PCM-D10?

A: Yes the Microphone Madness MCSM-4 would be ideal for that kind of application.

Q: 6. can I used this with the saramonic wireless transmitter receiver system?

A: Yes you can.

Q: 7. If I want to put this mic on someone moving a lot as I follow them, will it pick up the rubbing of their clothing easily?

A: If you wish to hid the microphone under clothing, place the capsule in a small silk pouchthis will prevent rubbing noise. On the other hand, if you plan to have the microphone visible and clipped to a lapel or tie, nothing extra is required.

Q: 8. All I get is a hiss and no recording with my canon 600D. Why does it not work with DSLRs like it says?

A: Please check the battery in the microphone, that it is inserted correctly and the microphone is powered on. If this does not remedy the issue please contact our Customer Service team directly: Customer Service Team 800.221.5743 cs@bhphotovideo.com

Q: 9. Will this work with Sony Wireless

A: No, the Rode Lavalier II Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone (Black) is not compatible with Sony Wireless Transmitters.

Q: 10. Will this work with a portable audio recorder like the Zoom H4N or the Tascam dr-40 (I think it'd need a 1/4 adapter for that one)?

A: I use it with a Zoom H4N and it works very nicely. I did not need an adapter for it.

I bought this wired lav to replace one I'd purchased that only records in mono. Since I'm forgetful and always seem to cut my green screen video without changing the clip to Mono as Stereo, I finally decided I needed something to record in stereo and started doing some research. For $30, this is a GREAT lav. The sound is smooth, and I speak pretty loudly. There's very little (if any) peaking, which is a godsend when editing my weekly show. I've had great results with little cons. The only thing I wish it featured was a light for the battery level, but that's fairly inconsequential. This is an excellent mic for at-home studios and single broadcasters.

This thing does exactly what I need it for. It lets my subjects be further away from the camera while still picking up their voices. The sound is crisp and clear. It can be tricky to hide the wire if that's a concern, but it's not a real big problem. Overall, for the price, I get exactly what I need. I'm not a sound engineer, so I don't know if the quality is professional or not, but I'd feel comfortable in using it to that level.

I bought this to use with iPad and iPod Touch video, along with a small adapter. It's incredible! Works perfectly! I can hardly wait to hook it up to a few other cameras. The sound is loud and clear, with very little noise. I also could not find another mic like this with both quality AND a long cable at anywhere near this price range.

I used these microphones in filming a documentary. The microphones I was using had failed, so I needed these right away. You shipped them immediately and they were packed very well, so there was no damage at all. The microphones have worked out great, and because of your immediate response to my purchase, we didn't have any delay waht-so-ever in our filming schedule. I would definitely, and have, recommend B&H for quality products and great service. Joe

Used this while creating video tutorials, purchased seperate mic's previously but always encountered an echo and other common issues. This device provided an enexpensive alternative. The long cord added ease of use even though it is not wireless.

I searched forever for a decent but entry level stereo lapel mic. I had to settle for a mono that gave subpar quality recordings. When someone suggested this I had to check it out but thought it couldnt be stereo or was an inferior. With recomedations from reputable sites, I ordered. Very pleased with this. I use it with my camcorder and the sound quality of my videos is great. I cannot beleive how an external mic makes 200% difference to the experience of the video. I like many are on a tight budget, but want to start off looking pro-like. This is a must. Thanks!

Bought the mic because I was tired of those uncomfortable headsets, I've tried to use for work audio conferences through my PC. My idea was to use the laalier mic along with my normal (and comfortable) music headphones and a USB audio interface (which I already have from one of my headphones). Works like a charm... I can now spend hours on the phone in comfort. Thanks...

You have stumbled across the best deal in audio technology, ever. I use this in the field as a freelance journalist. I was broke and tired of relying on others to borrow their audio equipment, so I bought this microphone thinking it was a gamble. Not at all. This microphone performs like a champ for field use, and the long audio cable wasn't as annoying as everyone says it is. I would just suggest wrapping it in a couple big loops rather than a bundle of small loops. Here is a link to a segment I did with this microphone. I plugged it directly into the camcorder: http://agourahills.patch.com/articles/malibulost-hills-station-celebrates-20th-anniversary-with-open-house-2600d1eb#video-7827714 There is a lot of ambient background noise -- but a lot of that was left in from other tracks intentionally to get the mood of the event.
