The Magewell USB Capture SDI Gen 2 is a slim and compact dongle that lets you easily import an SDI signal into your computer for recording or streaming. It provides a handy and efficient way of connecting cameras, decks, switchers, and other broadcast and surveillance equipment to your computer. Furthermore, it doesn't require any additional drivers to be installed, and thereby is compatible with various software and web applications (see below) on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS, and works by simple plug-and-play connection.

This Gen 2 version supports input/output resolutions up to 2048 x 1080 (2K) at 60 Hz. Using an included mini-coax to SDI adapter cable, connect any 3G/HD/SD-SDI source to the dongle, and output it to your computer with embedded audio over a USB 3.0 cable, which is also supplied. The USB port and USB cable are also backward-compatible with USB 2.0.

If you want to stream or record at a lower resolution than what's being captured, you can pull up the "Filters Properties Dialog Window" in the software you use and adjust parameters to downscale (or upscale)/deinterlace the image, as well as adjust brightness and other image properties. The device is also designed to work continuously 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I use this to convert a high resolution SDI video feed to USB 3. Works as intended, plug it in and forget it's there.

The Magewell USB HDMI Capture makes it very to do multi-camera or single external camera captures and Zoom or Teams video conferences.
I've used it in many places with out a single problem. Plug the HDMI source into it and it and it shows up as a webcam. Very easy! Eliminates complicated software and external devices.

Purchased for church live stream work in March (sending it switcher output with audio embedded from the switcher to combine at this device). It does get hot, and so to help keep hours down on the unit, I wait to connect it to the laptop until about 30 minutes before we go live each week. (For safest results to ensure the capture device is well-recognized by the computer, I shutdown the laptop if it was already on, then attach the capture device, and boot up again).

How I use it: Church live streaming ... three cameras and a PC go into a Roland V1 HD video switcher (audio goes through a mixer and then is input to the closest camera -- which carries the mixed audio to the switcher via the camera's HDMI) ... switcher output is split to feed the live stream and in-room monitors...one split output goes to a field monitor with built-in waveform/vectorscope ... then loops through the monitor (HDMI out from the monitor) to the Magewell capture device...Magewell connected to laptop...Magewell is seen by OBS software (but not with Magewell name, just hunt for 'capture device'), which then sends to YouTube. I use OBS to add lower-thirds...essentially a downstream key. youtube.com/LovelyLaneChurchIowa

Plug and play, works well and doesn’t require driver installation with Windows 10. My only complaint is that the SDI input into the Magewell is a MCX port. The included cable is a MCX to female BNC but is very thin and if damaged, I’m sure I’d have to do some searching or contact Magewell for a replacement. I really wish the card was larger in size and had the standard BNC female connector.

This little metal box really does a great job. Zero audio to video lag, great quality, feels very solid yet its lightweight. I am glad I spent the extra money, its so nice just to know something will work.

Just got it and worked with it. Easy to connect and start transmiting.
Good price (almost half) compared with the other brands and with the same result.

Used this with a PTZ Optics camera and it was plug, play and stream! SDI adapter cable looks fragile so will be securing it accordingly. It did not like being plugged into a USB hub but could have been a compatibility issue or simply too many devices on a single connection.
