This 40mm Anamorphic/i SF Prime Lens provides an added anamorphic flair to the classic, natural yet sharp "Cooke look". This Special Flare Cooke lens offers enhanced flares, bokeh and other aberrations, while complementing standard Anamorphic/i lenses. The 40mm prime incorporates an 11-blade iris for cinematic-looking, 2:1 oval bokeh. Designed for use with both digital cinema and film cameras, the Cooke Anamorphic/i SF primes provide a 2x squeeze, and cover image formats up to Super 35. For maximum optical performance, aberration, flare, and distortion control extends over the entire image area, and throughout the 40mm's T2.3-22 aperture range. The Anamorphic/i SF primes are color-matched with Cooke's Anamorphic/i, S4/i, 5/i, and mini S4/i series of prime lenses.

Each Anamorphic/i SF prime sports both a hardened PL mount and a cable connection that use Cooke's /i Technology to transmit lens data to compatible cameras. Lens setting data including focal length, aperture, focus, depth-of-field, etc. are provided in both feet and metric measurements.

The 40mm Anamorphic/i SF Prime Lens features a 22" minimum focus distance, focus marks in feet and meters, a relatively light weight of 7.5 pounds, and a compact length of 7.7". The lens is constructed with 0.8-mod geared focus and iris rings for use with follow focus, zoom control, and wireless F/I/Z systems. A large lens barrel, an increased number of focus marks, and Cooke's cam-style focus movement enable precise focus pulls. Focus marks are clearly visible and are engraved on the lens barrel in both feet and meters.

Q: 2. Does the lens work with the RED DIGITAL RF-PL adapter with ND electronic filters?

A: Information taken from the RED website states the following: The RED RF-PL Adapter w/Electronic ND Filter supports PL lenses with both Cooke /i as well as providing power and record triggering with compatible lenses. While the vast majority of PL lenses are compatible with the RED RF-PL Adapter w/ Electronic ND Filter, a small selection of PL lenses are not compatible due to their rear protrusion depth. aution should be taken with lenses that have extreme protrusion rear elements. Maximum Protrusion Depth with Straight 45.60mm Diameter: 21.60 mm Maximum Protrusion Depth with Straight 54mm Diameter: 20.40 mm   Please reference RED's documentation on this for iluustrations explaining such. https://support.red.com/hc/en-us/articles/15475477512467?input_string=red+pl+nd+adapter

Alright, this is my first anamorphic and cinema lens. I went back and forth for about a year on what would be my first cinema lens and i went this route based on the few videos i have seen on youtube. I'm not a professional in the filmmaking world (trying though) however I know quality and art when I see it. There's not a lot of info on these, and after figuring out how to monitor them correctly, and color grade the footage (I have a canon r5c and use final cut to grade them) I tossed it up on my big screen TV and was shook... i dont know if BH will take this down but here is some test footage and a quick color grading.

When I saw the output from this lens, I almost cried. The images are simply mindblowing. The bokeh is pure cinema, the flairs are dazzling yet not gaudy, the sense of presence is incredible, and the color and clarity are perfect.

I thought the price was extreme at first for the m43 system. Then I realized the lens really is on a whole other level. It is a piece of art that makes art.

I've ordered tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear at BH. I've never written a review. But this lens deserves to be known and celebrated.

I bought this lens due to having an ease of use rather then my Projection Lens set up.For an Anamorphic Lens, this lens is quite Sharp. The Anamorphic characteristics are quite on par with a lot of the more expensive ones.A lot of people complain that this lens is heavy.Well, what anamorphic lens that has a 1.8-2x stretch which are not? In fact this has to be the lightest 1.8-2x stretch anamorphic lens to date. That was before the 28mm though. For a telephoto anamorphic lens that has a close to 2x stretch which brings out true anamorphic characteristics, its a no brainer.Amazing that we live in times where we can actually own one of this kind of lenses.Ohh did i mention the price? Cheapest out there for a 1.8x.Thats right.
