Ubiquiti Networks introduces the EdgeRouter Infinity, the next evolution of the EdgeMAX platform featuring 80 Gbps aggregate throughput.

Powered by a 16-core, 1.8 GHz processor with 16 GB DDR4 RAM, the EdgeRouter Infinity features eight 10G SFP+ ports and a Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port for routing.

Powerful routing features - such as load balancing and failover - provide redundancy and increased performance for your network.

The EdgeRouter Infinity uses a hot-swappable modular power supply. It includes primary and backup AC/DC power supply modules, so it automatically switches over to the backup if the primary power supply fails.

The EdgeRouter Infinity is supported and managed by the Ubiquiti Network Management System. UNMS is a comprehensive management controller featuring a graphic UI that is easy to navigate. You can use a single control plane to manage registered EdgeMAX devices across multiple networks and sites.

Set up multiple DHCP servers to assign IP ranges in different subnets on the different interfaces. Easily control dynamic and static IP addressing for your network devices.
Conveniently track network activity and devices from tools such as Ping, Trace, Discover, Packet Capture, and Log Monitor.

Organize the rules you apply in the order you specify.

Apply the policies to groups filtered by IP address, network address, or port number.

The EdgeRouter changes packet addressing based on your customized source and destination NAT rules.

Each 10G SFP+ port functions as an independent interface. You can also configure Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) interfaces for network segmentation.

Configure static routes and dynamic routing protocols to effectively manage the routes used by the EdgeRouter.

The EdgeRouter Infinity features a graphical user interface designed for convenient setup and control. Accessed via a network port and web browser, the user-friendly interface provides intuitive management with a virtual view of the ports, displaying physical connectivity, speed, and status.

The EdgeRouter Infinity offers robust features, including:

• VLAN interfaces for network segmentation

• Static routes and support of routing protocols: OSPF, RIP, BGP, and MPLS

• Firewall policies and NAT rules

• Application identification with Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)

• DHCP services

• Quality of Service (QoS)

• Network administration and monitoring tools

• Administrator and operator accounts

• Comprehensive IPv6 support

The CLI provides quick and flexible configuration by command line and features the following:

• For power users, configuration and monitoring of all advanced features

• Direct access to standard Linux tools and shell commands

• CLI access through the following:

- Serial console port

- SSH

- Telnet

- Graphical user interface

Ports

The EdgeRouter Infinity features eight SFP+ ports for fiber connectivity and an RJ45 port for copper connectivity. A serial console port is available for CLI management (also accessible through the browser-based interface).

• (8) 10G SFP+ Ports

• (1) RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Port

• (1) RJ45 Serial Console Port

Power Options

The EdgeRouter Infinity includes two AC/DC 100 W power supplies. If it detects failure of the primary PSU, then the backup automatically activates to supply uninterrupted power. The AC/DC module is also sold separately as model RPS-AC-100W.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can you plug the included power adapter into the SFP port?

A: No, only Ethernet.

Q: 2. what is the HTS code for this when exporting/importing?

A: For your inquiry, please reach out to the manufacturer Ubiquiti.

Q: 3. Does it support port forwarding and public IP matching assignment?

A: Yes, the Ubiquiti Networks 12-Port EdgeRouter 12 Advanced Network Router supports port-forwarding and IP assignment.

Q: 4. Can this device support PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)?

A: Yes, this switch supports Passive PoE passthrough

Q: 5. Can I use this to connect my Synology Raid to 10 GB with two workstations? Then also run it (from this unit) to a wireless router for the rest of the building?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks EdgeRouter Infinity ER-8-XG 8-Port 10G SFP+ Router is a router itself. I would need more information about your setup to give you a better answer. (for example, is It only a raid system or a NAS or you are talking about an access point instead of a router?) Thank you!

Q: 6. is this router can reserve a 5K IP addresses???

A: This unit is not capable of reserving 5K ip addresses.

Q: 7. Which wireless access point would you recommend to pair this with? Thank you

A: I use a UAP-AC-Lite. The 24v POE injector from the AP can power the router as well as the access point through the pass thru port.

Q: 8. can you plug the included power adapter into SFP port?

A: No. The SFP port is a networking port. The included power adapter connects to the only port it can plug into on the rear of the housing.

Q: 9. Can I connect this router to a modem (using the SFP port) and five other Ethernet cables?

A: When setting up the Ubiquiti Networks ER-X-SFP EdgeRouter X with NAT you will be able to select any of the 6 ports for the WAN interface, including the SFP port.

Q: 10. Does this come with wall mount?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks ER-6P 6-Port PoE EdgeRouter does not come with a wallmount kit.

For starters, this is not a plug and play router. If you are looking for plug and play, then you might want to consider a different product. This is more or less an enterprise router. With that being said, there are multiple resources and videos online to help set it up if you aren’t familiar with networking. It has many incredible features especially for its size and price point. Simply put, it does its job extremely well. I highly recommend it.

I don't think you can beat this device for the price point. As long as you enable the hardware offloading and are okay with the 'compromises' that it entails, you can't go wrong! This device keeps up well with the data demands and works as advertised. The GUI appears slightly outdated but is actually very powerful and if you want to take things further there is always the CLI.
