(The D-Tap has two copper colored holes) Does the wall plug you are using look like the one attached? You connect the battery to your electrical system with the wall plug power adapter. You mention leaving the light off for several hours, and I am not sure what light you mean. I can only think that you are in a home where wall outlets are controlled by wall switches and you are not only turning out lights but also the power to the wall plug as well.
