The Keith McMillen Instruments K-Board Pro 4 - 48-Key USB/MIDI MPE Keyboard Controller combines the format of a traditional keyboard with the company's proprietary Smart Fabric technology to provide a traditional playing feel and an expanded range of expressive possibilities. Designed for use with cutting-edge software synths or classic MIDI-capable hardware, it features Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression (MPE) technology, which allows musicians and producers to play expressively in real time with the nuances expected from an acoustic instrument.

Each key on the K-Board Pro 4 polyphonically senses finger movements in three dimensions and sends attack velocity, release velocity, continuous pressure, horizontal position, and vertical position data. The data can be used to tweak any synthesis parameter in real time, including vibrato, timbre, and more. To keep you playing without interrupting the creative flow, four touch-sensitive sliders can be mapped to provide rapid access to any parameter, such as octave, vibrato depth, and more.

I love this keyboard, it is soo expressive and easy to play. I bought one before and it had many hung notes. I returned it but continued to feel limited by my joue pro, and couldn't get used to the linnstrument. So I looked for other complaints of hung note with the pro4 on the web, but didn't find ANY. So I contacted b&h and was assured I would be able to return it if I had the same problem. So I reordered and couldn't be more happier. My roland rd2000 just gathers dust as I can't stop playing the pro4! 5

I upgraded from the previous k-board model. Very happy to now have velocity support and beautiful new colors. Very much worth the upgrade. They shouldn't call it an mpe keyboard. The tilt and pressure don't work on individual keys but are averaged over the keyboard. mpe keyboards allow those controls to be distinct for each key. As a durable, playable, and very portable keyboard, the k-board is great. Velocity works very well and you can edit the sensitivity if desired. Tilt and pressure are less useful (harder to control in performance in a subtle way as you can with larger keyboards) but still nice to have. B&H did great with this order, as they always do. 5

Ok, I had a defective unit and returned it and wrote a review, see above. Liked it soooo much I asked b$h if I could buy another. They said 'sure'. So I did and this one is perfect. I have been playing it every day for months and not a single hung note. Couldn't be happier. Thinking seriously of selling my rd2000 which I haven't touched hardly at all since I started playing the k-board pro4. Reasonably priced Seaboard! 5

First some bad things, the keys are small, I'm a pianist and at first I was really afraid I was never used to it, but I was wrong. The possibilities are great and if you really make an effort you can make your synths alive, one of the best choices, some people complain about the tact of the keys but I'm a classical pianist and I get use to it. The keyboard could seem a little awkward but it's because your sound will be alive like in any other instrument, but if you want a keyboard it has the option. 5
