Designed for video editors working with real-time multi-stream HD and 4K workflows, the ARC-8050T3 60TB 6-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array from Areca is an 6-bay enclosure that is capable of holding both 2.5" and 3.5" SAS-3 12 Gb/s and SATA III 6 Gb/s hard drives and solid state drives. Equipped with 6 x 10TB hard drives for a total storage capacity of 60TB, the back of the enclosure features two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports that allow you to connect the enclosure to computers running macOS 10.12 or higher, as well as Windows 10 and 8. Once connected, you benefit from enhanced 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 connectivity and the ability to daisy-chain up to six compatible peripheral devices. Additional connectivity includes one DisplayPort 1.2 video output for connecting a 4K / 60 Hz monitor, plus a two-lane SFF-8644 expansion port that operates using the SAS-3 12 Gb/s standard for connecting up to seven expansion enclosures.

The Areca ARC-8050T3 also comes with extensive RAID level compatibility. Whether you are looking for speed or redundancy, you can configure the drives to suit your needs, as the enclosure supports a variety of RAID levels, including RAID 0, 1, 1E, 3, 5, 6, 10, 30, 50, and 60. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and Single Disk configurations are also available. This array, including its RAID status, can be configured using the LCD panel on the front, a rear RJ45 port, or one of the Thunderbolt 3 ports.

To back up the enhanced connectivity and advanced RAID features, the ARC-8050T3 comes equipped with an 1.2 GHz Dual-Core RAID-On-Chip and 2GB of 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC memory to ensure smooth operation when working with data intensive applications. The ARC-8050T3 is driven by a 180W internal power supply and cooled using one 92mm 2700 rpm cooling fan. Includes a 3.3' Thunderbolt 3 cable, a power cord, and 24 x drive mounting screws (four per tray).

Q: 1. What is the V-mount plate and the Lion Battery?

A: This is a kit with portable RAID storage enclosure with and an additional battery fallback with a mount for the battery itself.

Q: 2. How long is the Thunderbolt 3 cable that is provided?

A: It's 3'.

Q: 3. Does this bay come with drives?

A: Not sure if this Q has been answered, but no it does not. However, I have 4 of these units now, spanning over 3 years, and they are FANTASTIC units. VERY reliable. I can't compare/comment on price with other like units except that I found it closely priced, but I don't care anymore. Reliability and safety of media assets has far outweighed cost.

Q: 4. The these drive bays tool less?? where i can swap out drives without having to put the drive in a tray with screws?

A: The drive needs to be secured with 4 screws.

Q: 5. can I use this with 4 Seagate 16tb SAS drives in raid 10 configuration?

Q: 7. Can I use the Ethernet port on this unit like a server (similar to NAS)? I'm thinking to have this connected to our Ethernet switch so that people in our building can review what I will be working on without needing my supervision or having to come to my workstation. Is this possible?

A: This unit only supports a Thunderbolt 3 type connection. It also would not support any ethernet connection via an adapter as it lacks the necessary drivers to do so.

Q: 8. What type of drives are in this JBOD? SAS-3 12Gb or SATA III 6Gb? Who is the drive manufacturer and what model?

A: The manufacturer only specifies that it is 8x 6GB drives. They do not specify the models used.

Q: 9. hi, i'm interested in 8050t3. in the description it's said that it has 12x SAS 12 Gb/s drive. My questions :1. Does it mean i can only use the drives with SAS interface , so i can't use SATA drive. correct ? 2. can you give me a list of type of recommended harddrive. Can i use seagate constellation drives ? because i have a lot spare of these drives at home.3. Any driver for linux ?

A: 1. Yes, it can only be used with SAS drives, not SATA drives,2. Yes, as long as they are SAS drives. We actually recommend the Seagate Constellation ES.3 SAS drives.3. Currently Areca only supports Windows and Mac, and there are no Linux drivers.

Q: 10. What is the maximum dat capacity on these?

A: The max capacity is limited by the drives you use and your OS limitations.

I purchased this raid to serve as a working edit drive with projects that are above 1TB. I have other backup strategies, but I wanted something similar in speeds to my 1TB SSD's that I use for working edits. This thing read/writes at or around 500MB/s! Since this raid is made up of helium drives, they are a little louder than normal drives in the other enclosures. It just has a sound like it's writing data every few seconds, but it's not as loud as raids with loud fans.

It's silent. Like it's-not-switched-on-at-all silent. Yet it chomps data for breakfast. Fast. Byte by terabyte. I use it to back up movie jobs-in-production on my movie Mac. The in-Mac 2Tb drive/s handle the storage and processing, which is then backed up to this data-hungry carnivore. Which means that movies in progress are always backed up - so if there is ever a Mac crash, the data is no more than a few hours out of date. No, I'm not using Time Capsule because . . . well, I don't want to. That's easy. Go on. Buy two!

I bought the 8 TB (2x4) to backup my photographs. I wanted a RAID 1 system for the redundancy storage. After looking at numerous brands and models, I decided to get this G-Technology Thunderbolt 2 USB 3.0. It came with the RAID 0 setup. I contacted customer service a couple of times and they responded in an extremely short period of time to each question. I will certainly recommend this product to anyone.

This is one of those products that I'd rather review in a few years. It's working great so far, I have it to where i have two copies of each files on each 5tb drive... it was a pain installing the software for it by fault of Gtech - their website links are mismatched, etc. Great product though!

I love this series of Thunderbolt drives. This model rates at 440MB/s, which is almost the speed of the 20TB at 500MB/s and the portable SSD ev Raw series. I have never had a G-Tech drive fail either.
