Rdl D-sh1 Stereo Headphone Amplifier

Rdl D-sh1 Stereo Headphone Amplifier

$621.42 $919.70

The Radio Design D-SH1 is a surface mounted, stereo / mono, headphone amplifier for audio installations of any kind. Museum exhibits, private audio monitoring installations, and listening stations are among some of the possible applications the D-SH1 is suitable for. The module mounts conveniently in a precut opening in a wood or metal enclosure or in various RDL mounting accessories.

The dual-channel headphone amplifier features balanced/unbalanced left and right inputs that accept operating levels between -20 dBV and +20 dBu. Two recessed slide switches located on the side of the rear enclosure are set prior to mounting the module. One of the switches sets the input sensitivity, the other selects between stereo and mono operation. The front panel level control is a long-life potentiometer. Because audio does not pass through this control, it can provide years of noise-free level adjustment.

It comes with built-in headphone adaptability. The output amplifiers deliver more than 50mW into either high or low impedance headphones through a 1/4" (6.3mm) standard headphone jack.

This unit adapts to studio or office. This Radio Design amplifier is designed with the convenience of APPFLEX Mounting allowing panel-mounted or wall mounted functionality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is it possible for a battery to run this unit?

A: Unfortunately no. It must have DC power.

Q: 2. Does this come with the input coard to connect I have a Mackie 1402VLZ4 14-Channel Compact Mixer and I need to plug this in to it for muiltpule peopel to listen so I need to know if it comes with the input cord for me to plug it into?

A: You will need to buy a 1/4 stereo cable to attach to your 1402VLZ.. I have a 1202VLZ.

Q: 3. How do I get a spare input cable? 5 pin mini XLR to duel female XLR cables are impossible to find.

A: B&H does not carry the input cable for the HP2 as a separate product. You may wish to contact Presonus support directly for spare parts: http://bit.ly/1pHn4Vm

Q: 4. Are these good for podcasting?

A: Hi, Thank you for reaching out. Great for podcasting using more then one set of headphones or to send out audio out to other equipment.

Q: 5. Does this provide plenty of power to 250 or 600 ohms power without the feeling that I need a higher power amp?

A: The specs on the ART HeadAmp 6 show 150mw with headphones of 8 or 600 ohms. It also states much higher power (500mw) with 32 ohm headphones. One must also consider: 1- the headphone sensitivity specification, which will tell you how loud a headphone is, based on the power applied. 2- the transients in whatever it is you are listening to; large transients requires much more power. see below article of explanation: https://www.audeze.com/blogs/technology-and-innovation/sensitivity-impedance-and-amplifier-power

Q: 6. Power Supply for 110v or 220v ?

A: The power supply is marked 12O Volt 60 Hz. ..so, no, it won't work on 220-240. However, the output is marked 12V dc 150mA. The connector on the end of the cord is the standard small item plug that fits all kinds of small electronic items, including external hard disk enclosures. There are MANY inexpensice power supplies on the market (or you may have some lying around) that put out 12v dc and at least 150 mA. If you find one that puts out more than that, is should be just fine. ...just not lower than 150mA. You do need decent quality to prevent hum. B&H may sell one, or look on eBay. ..for a p.s. that for input 110 and 240 Volts, and 50 / 60 Hz. ..so you can use here (U.S.) or in Europe, wherever. The sound from this compact amplifier is quite clean. i use for video voice over, and have NO complaints.

Q: 7. How does this plug in to the audio out from my computer?

A: In order to use the Behringer HA-400 with you computer all you would need is and adaptor cable. The adaptor has to be a 3.5mm male stereo for your computer out to a 1/4 stereo male for the Behringer HA-400 input. This is the B&H part number of the cable you will need to make this work for you B&H # HOSMMSPM10. You will find the image attached below.

Q: 8. Hi! Will this work with Zoom H6?

A: You may need 1/4 to 1/8 adapters but yes it will work!

Q: 9. Does this come with a DC power adapter?

A: The Presonus HP2 will ship with 9V DC Power Supply included.

Q: 10. Does the power adapter can be plugged to a 220V outlet?

A: No. 110

Not much to say. Plug it in and patch it in Dante.

This is a nice entry in a crowded field. It is the second of two that have sliders instead of knobs for volume adjustment.

The other slider controlled amp USED to have detents at the 5 mark. The Polsen still has these. The op-amps used inside are in the same quality ballpark. Soldering looks more uniform on the Polsen than on the other slider unit. Slider contacts look marginally better on the other unit. Both units use little to no surface mounting, which I like on a device that may spend a lot of time in and out of a gig bag.

Although the voltage rating on the op-amp and power supply are lower in the Polsen than the other amp, there is plenty of power to hear the headphone mix over ambient sound.

The built-in connection flexibility is better on the other amp. connections by 1/8, 1,4 and RCA are all included on the other amp body. The Polsen has no provision for RCA connection, but does provide adapters and a patch cord for various 1/4 to 1/8 conversions.

The case is done better on the other amp. It's small things, but those add up over time. The metal is heavier gauge on the other amp. Exposed corners are rounded on the other amp. It won't tear into a gig bag, for instance.

But the gauge on the Polsen is heavy enough.

I prefer the other unit for case and bits I do NOT have to keep track of, but this unit gives a lot of bang for the buck!

Best solution for boardroom projectors. Nice and powerful given the footprint. Good full range sound. Has an imbedded condenser that causes a little hiss, back off the gains and increase volume with the source equipment.

This thing is amazing! We do a travel radio and TV show and we are always trying to keep our gear kit as small as possible. This headphone amp is the answer.
It is made of metal, not plastic, so it is much more sturdy than other units. The output power and fidelity are excellent.
I can't find anything to complain about. Thank you Polsen!

This headphone works like a charm! It’s well worth the cost for podcasts or situations that require simultaneous listening sessions.

Pros

-All metal build
-Comes with 4 x 1/8 (3.5 mm) to 1/4 (6.3 mm) Adapters
-Looks great in my studio
-Reliable
-The dials allow for individual gain and are plenty loud

Cons

-As other reviews have noted - when you turn down the gain to zero you can still slightly hear the audio.  Turning down each level to zero still allows audio to slightly pass through. For what this cost and the build quality this con shouldn’t be a deal breaker.  If you’re in a situation where you need zero audio for each headphone you’re better off getting a soundproof booth or investing in something similar that should cost you at least 10 times the cost of this device.

I bought this system as a gift for someone but haven't actually used it yet, although it seems really well built and designed, like most Presonus products. What I'm most impressed with however is B&H getting it to me the day before Christmas when I only ordered it the day before. Hard to believe they actually got it done... I'll continue to buy from both B&H and Presonus.
