The Radio Design D-SH1M is a surface mounted, stereo / mono, headphone amplifier for audio installations of any kind. Museum exhibits, private audio monitoring installations, and listening stations are among some of the possible applications the D-SH1M is suitable for. The module mounts conveniently in a precut opening in a wood or metal enclosure or in various RDL mounting accessories.

The dual-channel headphone amplifier features balanced/unbalanced left and right inputs that accept operating levels between -20 dBV and +20 dBu. Two recessed slide switches located on the side of the rear enclosure are set prior to mounting the module. One of the switches sets the input sensitivity, the other selects between stereo and mono operation. The front panel level control is a long-life potentiometer. Because audio does not pass through this control, it can provide years of noise-free level adjustment.

Because audio does not pass through the Radio Labs D-SH1M control, it assures years of noise-free level adjustment. This, with the integral long-life VCA stereo level control (with balanced or unbalanced inputs) means you will have a durable and dependable amplifier.

It comes with built-in headphone adaptability. The output amplifiers deliver more than 50mW into either high or low impedance headphones through a 1/4" (6.3mm) standard headphone jack.

This unit adapts to studio or office. This Radio Design amplifier is designed with the convenience of APPFLEX Mounting allowing panel-mounted or wall mounted functionality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are the outputs isolated from inputs and are all the outputs isolated from each other?

A: Yes

Q: 2. When connecting two different input sound sources. Can they be mixed to one output? Can you then keep the one input sound going to one out put channel? And the other input channel go to another single out put channel?

A: The Behringer AMP800 features an A and B input. Each headphone output is only able to select a single input source at a time ( A or B). Both can not be combined in this unit.

Q: 3. It can be run also with DC?

A: P.S. Here is what is printed on a U.S. power adapter:BEHRINGERITE POWER SUPPLYMODEL: U090075AITEM NO: PSU-MINI-UL-01INPUT: 120 V AC 60 Hz 0.15AOUTPUT: 9 V AC 750 mA

Q: 4. The unit won't turn on?

A: If the unit is not receiving power and the LED indicator is not lit, it is possible either the included power supply or the unit itself is defective. Q: 5. Can speakers be one of the outputs from this device?

A: A pair of amplified speakers may be connected.

Q: 6. If I get the correct cables could I send the signal from a crosley turntable to this, then to a receiver? The ol' yamaha is running down at -18db to be able to hear the records at a decent volume from the passive speakers it's driving... I need it amped up a bit before it gets there methinks.

A: I can't answer from knowledge of the specific turntable, but every phono I've ever known for the past 40 years requires a phono preamp for two reasons. 1) The signal level is way, way too low for directly connecting to a headphone amp or any line-level device. 2) Most importantly phonographs are all recorded with a very treble-skewed EQ according to the standard RIAI curve, a phono preamp is designed to nullify that curve by being exactly opposite towards a heavy bass response. In short, there is no substitute for a phono preamp. Make sure it is labeled and defined as phono preamp.

Q: 7. Can I use it for Live Church Service?I want to take the Line Out of my Church Amp and get 4 Outputs to put 4 Powered Speakers around the Hall.

A: yes you can do that. Remember, all cables are 1/4 inch.

Q: 8. How long the mini cable?

A: The included mini cable is 1.5 meters in length. (Just under 5 ft.)

Q: 9. Can you daisy chain two of these? I have one already and need more outputs.

A: Sure you can.

Q: 10. What cables do I need and where do I hook My Behringer 800 headphone amp to ?

A: You will need 1/4 cables. The back of the headphone amp is 1/4 TRS cable. This will be put in line to your interface or audio mixer. Most often will be 1/4 TRS on the interface or mixer. Be sure that you won't need 1/4 from headphone amp to XLR on interface or mixer.Think about how far the amp will be from said gear to order, just enough length in your cables.I bought 6 cables since my amp sits on top of interface.Hope this helpsDanny

I bought this item for a use slightly different than the manufacturer's intent - I gave to my boom operator as monitor. I fed him boom on one channel and the mix on the other so her could use the fade feature to select what he was hearing. The sound quality is really good, the construction is durable and the size is convenient. We powered the unit with a 9v battery and it lasted nearly two 12-hour days. That's impressive.

Not much to say. Plug it in and patch it in Dante.

This thing is amazing! We do a travel radio and TV show and we are always trying to keep our gear kit as small as possible. This headphone amp is the answer.
It is made of metal, not plastic, so it is much more sturdy than other units. The output power and fidelity are excellent.
I can't find anything to complain about. Thank you Polsen!

Best solution for boardroom projectors. Nice and powerful given the footprint. Good full range sound. Has an imbedded condenser that causes a little hiss, back off the gains and increase volume with the source equipment.

If you are looking for a high quality build with powerful headphone amp, which can plug in anywhere on the Dante network, look no further. I love this thing! Another valuable feature is having both 1/8in & 1/4in jacks built in.

This is a nice entry in a crowded field. It is the second of two that have sliders instead of knobs for volume adjustment.

The other slider controlled amp USED to have detents at the 5 mark. The Polsen still has these. The op-amps used inside are in the same quality ballpark. Soldering looks more uniform on the Polsen than on the other slider unit. Slider contacts look marginally better on the other unit. Both units use little to no surface mounting, which I like on a device that may spend a lot of time in and out of a gig bag.

Although the voltage rating on the op-amp and power supply are lower in the Polsen than the other amp, there is plenty of power to hear the headphone mix over ambient sound.

The built-in connection flexibility is better on the other amp. connections by 1/8, 1,4 and RCA are all included on the other amp body. The Polsen has no provision for RCA connection, but does provide adapters and a patch cord for various 1/4 to 1/8 conversions.

The case is done better on the other amp. It's small things, but those add up over time. The metal is heavier gauge on the other amp. Exposed corners are rounded on the other amp. It won't tear into a gig bag, for instance.

But the gauge on the Polsen is heavy enough.

I prefer the other unit for case and bits I do NOT have to keep track of, but this unit gives a lot of bang for the buck!

This headphone works like a charm! It’s well worth the cost for podcasts or situations that require simultaneous listening sessions.

Pros

-All metal build
-Comes with 4 x 1/8 (3.5 mm) to 1/4 (6.3 mm) Adapters
-Looks great in my studio
-Reliable
-The dials allow for individual gain and are plenty loud

Cons

-As other reviews have noted - when you turn down the gain to zero you can still slightly hear the audio.  Turning down each level to zero still allows audio to slightly pass through. For what this cost and the build quality this con shouldn’t be a deal breaker.  If you’re in a situation where you need zero audio for each headphone you’re better off getting a soundproof booth or investing in something similar that should cost you at least 10 times the cost of this device.

Very sturdy box and belt clip. Knobs have a nice feel and comfortable resistance to them. Lasts over 10 hours on one battery. Stereo mini XLR to two female XLR Y-cable makes it MUCH lighter on the hip. (Competition has two XLR inputs (L/R) makes this heavy on the belt due to the pull of two cables.) Costs more than P1 but, when you consider PreSonus includes the the power supply and XLR, you wind up spending the same. I have three in my studio. Adding more soon.

I went from wireless to the HP2. It's going to be an adjustment being tethered, but this unit has tons of clean power. Getting to the battery compartment requires you to take off the belt clip. If your battery goes out during a gig, a quick replacement would probably be difficult. But great unit overall.

I bought this system as a gift for someone but haven't actually used it yet, although it seems really well built and designed, like most Presonus products. What I'm most impressed with however is B&H getting it to me the day before Christmas when I only ordered it the day before. Hard to believe they actually got it done... I'll continue to buy from both B&H and Presonus.
